FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, BOSTON, AND WFNX PRESENT MFA ACOUSTIC SESSIONS,
A SERIES OF CONCERTS BY POPULAR ALTERNATIVE BANDS HELD IN MFA GALLERIES
MFA's Facebook Page and WFNX Radio to Offer Tickets to Select Winners;
Broadcasts of Concerts on WFNX Radio and
Links to Audio and Video on WFNX.com and facebook.com/mfaboston
BOSTON, MA (May 12, 2011)—
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) and WFNX Radio (101.7 Boston) have teamed up to present the MFA Acoustic Sessions, a series of performances featuring nationally acclaimed alternative bands performing live in MFA exhibition spaces, from the European Paintings Gallery to a gallery featuring 19th century American works in the new Art of the Americas Wing. Beginning yesterday with a performance by The Airborne Toxic Event in the Koch Gallery, the concerts will be presented every month. Lykke Li will perform later this month followed by a range of performances including My Morning Jacket later this summer. On occasion, musicians will play instruments that are in the MFA's collection of rare musical instruments.
The sessions will be announced via the MFA's Facebook page (facebook.com/mfaboston) and on WFNX Radio. Those interested in attending are invited to complete an entry form on the MFA's Facebook page or call WFNX during on-air prompts. A small group of 35–50 winners will be randomly selected for each concert.
Each performance will be recorded as both audio and video, and will be broadcasted on WFNX and posted to WFNX.com. In addition, the MFA's Facebook page will link to the recordings and the concert video. As the Museum prepares to open its Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art in September 2011, the concert series provides a new layer of contemporary artistic experience for Facebook friends of the Museum. Musicians performing in the concerts are invited to participate in the MFA's new ―Art We Love‖ program,
MFA Boston, Museum Presents WFNX Acoustic Sessions, Press Release, p. 2
in which they will identify their favorite work of art in the Museum, explain why, and have their picture taken with the work; the musicians' selections will then be shared via Facebook.
The popular WFNX Acoustic Sessions were created in 2005 by WFNX, the radio station of Phoenix Media/Communications Group. The series attracts some of the best alternative/indie bands to intimate venues for exclusive performances as pre-publicity for their larger concerts in local clubs. Bands have included 2011 Grammy nominees Band of Horses, Broken Bells, Florence and the Machine, Mumford & Sons, and Vampire Weekend. Past Grammy nominees and winners who have performed in the series include Death Cab for Cutie, MGMT, Modest Mouse, Phoenix, Silversun Pickups, Ting Tings, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Thanks for the heads up, PLane. :dankk2:
ok - my new mission is to get into this!!!
Good get - thanks for the heads up. Something to look forward to.
Yes --I thought of JYac and Mahg (and Eric) since you'll already be in town for the Sun show---thinking this will be on the Mon following? hmmmm...
seems like Monday is a better bet than Sun, right? since they are coming from Maine...
It says that it'll be held on the 14th ... ???

Thanks for thinking of me Penny. 8)
I'd be up for this in a heartbeat if it's the Monday after the BOA show. My train ticket can be exchanged for a later one, no problem. If anyone gets tix and wants some company, dinner and drinks are on me.
Decided not to go to the BOA show for some stupid reason, but I entered to win these tix and if I somehow get lucky I'll be in the market for a BOA tick as well..
P.S. Don't y'all think this is something that should have been offered to the fan club first? I know the MFA is looking for publicity so I understand the contest, but I think giving access to at least a few tickets to the fan club as well makes way too much sense. For anything on film you would think that avoiding a crowd of stiffs is important
speaking of the roll call.... haven't gotten an email from them in a while....

Signed up for the acoustic show contest...
Man, so awesome! I've been wanting them to do an acoustic show ever since I heard that 2010-08-15 radio session. They sounded so great!!

No offense, just want to keep my chances good by disuading folks from trying.
Plus, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is in a really bad part of town. They're fighting a serious mold problem. I think the contest is more Russian porn spam, and as soon as you sign up, your computer gets taken over by the Chinese. Oh, and the fine print said winners must pay a fee of $83,000 in Canadian $2 coins. Good luck everyone!
Hope cape! I really want to win this.. lucky for you people I never win anything. Good luck hope someone from here gets to go!
I will be deeply upset if I can't get into this show!
Has anyone been contacted for this? Today was supposedly the day for the winners drawing.
wow totally missed this. >:( would've been awweesome. :-\ :'(

I was just caller 3...caller 12 wins. On Wednesday I was caller 2. I guess I'm a little trigger happy.

Can you rephrase? I didn't understand that, did I lose? I haven't received any calls/mails/inboxes
:'(
WFNX, a radio station in Boston, is also giving away some pairs. When they announce they are giving the tickets, caller 12 gets them.

Ahh, I get it now. I'm at work and cant make long distance calls, I'll just keep my fingers crossed and wait for an email from the MFA's Facebook.
Any winners? NOT ME :(
Quote from: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston's FacebookCheck your emails! Winners were emailed today.
If winners are allowed a +1, I'm willing to make you a favor and be your guest. I'm fairly good looking, and ethnical (latino), which will make you look cool. :p
I did not receive an email...ugh.
WFNX are giving tickets away right now... call 7815959369 and BE the 12th call again.
Good luck, I can't make long distance calls at the moment from the office. :(
EDIT: Nevermind, some guy JUST got them.

aarggh for me! but well done for you. congrats that's great. was it via email or calling the radio station? Guess I'm going to have to start listening to WFNX religiously.
Basically after many failed attempts at trying to win by calling in one of the DJs from WFNX hooked me up after I kept asking them about when they were giving away tickets next.

Did you slide in the office and rip your shirt off?
Yes, if you listen to WFNX and here someone squealing "are you shitting me?" over and over again, that would be me.
I was driving my son to soccer camp and in the 5 seconds between radio on and me plugging in the ipod, I heard MMJ Rocket Man on the radio. Total stroke of luck it was even on WFNX. I thought "hmmm that's interesting". When they were done the DJ went into a speech about how cool the band is and that they were giving away a pair to see the acoustic show at the MFA to the 13th caller. So I sprung into action and kept redialing when I got busy, busy, busy. Finally I get through and the DJ says "you're the 14th caller". I said 'D'oh!!!" and he replied "but the 13th just hung up!!" Seriously, my mind is still boggling at the improbability of it all... .like SO MUCH had to come together at the price time for that to happen. Despite my comment earlier in the thread about listening religiously, I had not done so and this was the first pair I'd heard given away.
It was a bummer to me that such a concert was going down literally a few miles from my house and I was missing it, but I had made other afternoon plans I looked forward to and was getting pumped for the BoA anyway.
That's definitely the most curse words I've used in a short span around my son ever – I even apologized to him on air because I yelled at him to be quiet at one point, I was so jazzed.
Hows that for a 1000th post?

Hey! that's the back of my head right there front and center on the bottom - with Mrs Magh33ta in front of me w/ the ponytail. I guess whoever took this was sitting behind me.
Anyway, here's another tidbit you might find enjoyable:
At the end of the show, the WFNX DJ asked the band some questions. His first question was to describe the process of the new record. YY's response was a 4 minute ramble on health care in the US and why everyone should have the option and it needs to be affordable etc etc... DJ was like "....uh, ok. Here's another question: would you rather make a fantastic album or be known as a killer live band?". YY's answer "yes, immigration - that'll be another important issue in the upcoming elections" then went on to talk about we are all immigrants and honest hardworking people are struggling to make a better life for themselves.... All this time Carl is sitting next to him smirking and trying hard not to laugh. YY was dead-pan the whole time and the DJ wasn't sure what to do. It was really funny. On the way out I saw YY give the guy a big "was just f-in' with you hug" so I'm sure he wasn't in on it.
I also have some video of a few songs I'll sort out when I get a sec. I wish I had video of the Q&A because that would be priceless, but I didn't think to film it.
bunch of great pics on the MFA Facebook page

right in the front? You were carrying a poster tube? That always catches my curiosity...
Yeah that was me...I was hoping to get some face time with the boys to get something signed since the only thing signed I have is the rollcall letter. Oh well.
I don't know if you noticed but me, my gf, and 2 other girls were kicked out of our seats about 10 mins after we sat down. A lady at the MFA came over and said they were reserved for the band (?). Needless to say we were pretty pissed, although once the show started all sourness would have washed away. Anyways, about 10 mins after we were kicked out the lady came back over and apologized and said we could have our seats back.
Also my girlfriend took some pretty cool videos I'll post on youtube and here as soon as I can.

Yeah, I did see that. I felt bad for you because clearly you had gotten there early. My wife and I chatted with the other two women at the cocktail party for a while and she told us the story... I'll put some video up too but yours should be perfect!
How seriously AMAZING! Wow. Wow. Wow. That setting would be unreal for me. Way to go on getting to see it.
I love those pictures of Jim looking at art. I'd kill to walk through a gallery with him and find out what he thinks. It'd be a hell of a lot better than the hours of art history courses during my undergrad, that's for sure.
I reviewed my camera last night and got a pretty pristine recording of tonite i want / wonderful man / slow slow song. Most here have probably heard the first 2 omnichord-style but slow slow acoustic is pretty sweet.
It's 12 minutes long and too long for youtube, so I gave up and will figure out how to split apart.
just megaupload it.
