This film is going to play at the Santa Barbara Festival:
By Phil Gallo, Los Angeles Films about the Cowsills, the collaboration between My Morning Jacket and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and two Los Angeles record stores -- Rhino Records and Music Man Murray -- will be screened at the 27th Santa Barbara International Film Festival between Jan. 26 and Feb. 5.
Also making its world premiere is Sara Sugarman's "Vinyl, USA" about a 1980s rock band that caused a media frenzy in 2004 when the group made a comeback under the guise of an young punk band, much as the Alarm did when they released a single of "45 RPM" as the Poppyfields.
A music-themed scripted film, Ryan O'Nan's "The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best," chronicles two men on a dubious tour that may be their last shot at achieving their childhood dreams.
"Family Band: The Cowsills Story," directed by Bill Filipiak, Ian Boyles and Louise Palanker, documents the rise of the family of singers to stardom in the late 1960s. Cowsill siblings Bill, Bob, Paul, Barry, John and Susan, plus mom Barbara, scored with hits such as "The Rain, the Park and Other Things," "Indian Lake" and "Hair," providing the model for the TV series "The Partridge Family."
Danny Clinch's "Live at Preservation Hall: A Louisiana Fairytale" captures interaction with New Orleans's Preservation Hall Jazz Band and My Morning Jacket, culminating in an intimate live performance in the historic Preservation Hall.
"Rhino Resurrected," directed by Keith Shapiro, chronicles the idiosyncratic history of the storied Rhino Records, the creation of the Rhino label and its brief run as a pop-up store. Richard Parks' short "Music Man Murray" documents a rare record store in L.A. with more than 500,000 vinyl albums.
Daniel Fridell's "El Medico: The Cubaton Story" focuses on new musical sound coming from Cuba and the doctor who has become its voice.

No shit. why put all that effort and production into it and then not sell a few copies?

Just got an email from Danny Clinch. Looks like a DVD release is in the works. He asked that I keep in touch sometime after the New Year, so will do. Stay tuned...
Nice! I'm sure he'll have several customers from here.
Great news! Thanks for checking John.
I'll definitely buy one. Such an awesome movie.
What's the word on this?
"It's coming out very, very soon. I want it more than you do." Danny Clinch 1/2/12

Thanks for checking Johnny, indeed!
I would also like a copy of the T5 run that someone mentioned :)
anything at this point
I recently asked DC via Instagram if Louisiana Fairytale will ever see the light of day and his response was "for sure it will," fwiw.
Screening on Sunday in Asbury Park. Danny just posted it on Instagram.

Sweet! I was kind of worrying about this ever seeing the light. It has sort of seemed like he starts a lot of projects and doesn't quite finish getting them out there.... I'm hoping that doesn't happen to his Shannon Hoon documentary he's making.
Not sure what the delay is. I saw it at sxsw however many years ago and it seemed finished. I just want the soundtrack.
Wow that's pretty huge!!
Also the Miles Davis movie premiere "Miles Ahead", with Don Cheadle.

I was there and it was fantastic! First we were treated to a discussion and a Q and A with Ben Jaffe, and a couple other members of the PHJB and Danny Clinch. Really cool to hear about their backgrounds, how they all became friends, how the collab with MMJ came about and so much more.
The film itself was outstanding. Not just the GREAT music, but the old footage of performances at Preservation Hall, and seeing our guys with huge smiles throughout and just loving every second of their time there. The seemingly effortless way both bands worked and clicked so well together, it really is a must see for any American music lover but especially any Jacket fan.
Jacket music highlights for me were an amazing accoustic Dondante, and At Dawn but seeing both bands jamming out to Highly Suspicious gave me a new love for that one. Holy shit was it fun.
Last but not least, it was great to see our very own lovely Sassbox get a good amount of screen time with her great spot up front! She's told me about that night but to see it and her on screen in this film really gave me an even greater appreciation of what a special night that was for her and everyone lucky enough to be there.
Edit to say I wish I saw this thread before I went. I thought it was out already but would've definitely asked Danny about a release.
Were the performances shown in full or was it cut up in bits documentary style?
Been a few years for me but I remember full songs.

Most if not all of the songs themselves were shown in full with a couple done in a row but it was cut up with the "Tale" being told in between tunes. To tell you the truth it was so well done it almost seemed like it was shown as a full performance but even when there wasn't a live tune being shown there wasn't much time between seeing another song performed either by PHJB, MMJ or both together.
As much as I loved the live performances that's how much I loved the rest of it was as well. I definitely give this one
