Interesting, this new date was posted on the LA Music Blog Scenestar this morning, and there was a page on Livenation.com saying tickets were going onsale on Sept. 16.
A couple hours later, both listings are gone. The Livenation page now say "Sorry, but this event no longer exists in our database."
yes please
Either there's a slew of dated coming or some monkeying around is afoot
My hunch is that there's a new leg of the tour TBA soon, and this information was released prematurely. I have a feeling the date is real.
Dec. 1, 2012?
Gives us plenty of time to save up some $. ;)
Sorry folks. Bad typo. It's 2011. Just fixed it. :P
forget that link, what I did is google search My Morning Jacket Gibson Ampitheater December first
if you scroll down you can see the link to the scenestar article, but when you click it it says link broken. whats funny, though, is that it says it is in support of their newest album, Evil Urges. Obviously a show at the Gibson didn't ever happen in the Evil Urges tour.
That doesn't explain the Livenation page
It still shows when you google it but it isn't there when you click the link

I just googled it on my iPhone, and the page is still there, maybe it's because I'm on the mobile site? It says Thursday December 1, show time is 7:45 pm, tickets on sale Friday sept 16 at 10 am. When I hit the link to view the full site, it says event no longer exists.

THINGS ARE COMING :D
im going to throw this out there, because it seems odd that they would play a second show in one year at a different venue seemingly just because. Maybe they're gonna end out 2012 with a few multi-runs. LA, Chicago, NY or something like that. would be awesome.
edit: maybe Louisville too? though I think between Yum Center, Ear-X-travaganza, and Unstaged Louisville has been quite spoiled.

Then I, too, shall end my year with some multi-night runs. I like the way you think...!

If there's another LA show then I'm hoping for a San Diego show as well
If there's not a San Diego show I'll assume they play Las Vegas. Going to try and make 2 more MMJ shows this year no matter what since I got the money.
I really hope there is a San Diego show either the day before or after because I don't think I can make this show with school

I don't know what venue they would play down here.
MMJ normally plays SDSU Open Air Arena but I don't know if that venue is active around the Fall. My only other guess is RIMAC but it's nothing but a mid sized college gym with bad sound.

I can definitely see a vegas show going down...after the one in 08 was cancelled.

Don't tease me like that ( ;)), but honestly there's no way that the band could/would play a venue that small at their current status. I could see Jim playing a solo show at Spreckels a few years down the road. Greatest Indoor Venue in San Diego.

I'll make alot of Sacrifices for MMJ. They get top Priority over any band when it comes to the Live Shows.
seating capacity: Spreckels Theatre: 1915
Pantages: 2703
Oakland Fox: 2800
it could happen. But I think a show in Vegas at the Joint at the Hard Rock is more likely.
They skipped Vegas and Nashville and NYC and Texas to name the some big ones that I imagine won't be skipped again if they have another tour this year after Europe.

Yeah I think you're right. I would still go to RIMAC if they played here in San Diego but I think the venue is horrible. Would pay alot of money for a Spreckels Show. :coffee:
I think if they play Vegas it will be the day after LA, probably that Friday Night.

I thought they were playing ACL this year?
Yeah they're playing ACL but played Roo and Mtn Jam but I think most would agree that those hardly count as their stops in TN or New York. They played Chicago AND Lolla.

while those hardly count as stops, that may be why those cities were "skipped" due to the clauses in festival contracts. but id say those windows are definitely over with now
This gives me a lot of hope for a possible stop up here. Any other PDX peeps thinking about a possible "December to Remember" show by MMJ? Stranger things have happened...
wiz, is "december to remember" a winter dance theme? b/c those prom dates in athens were something i would love to do again.

Oh, Ms. Y, I sure wish that was the case. I would love to don some taffeta and rock out!
December to Remember is a series of concerts at the Crystal Ballroom hosted by 94.7 as a benefit. They bring in some big names that normally don't always play the Crystal (capacity there is 1500). Past bands have included Spoon, The Black Keys, Cake, Vampire Weekend, Passion Pit, And Broken Bells. It would be a perfect addition to have MMJ play this year. One downer, you have to be right up front at the Crystal because the sound there is horrible. It sounds like some one is playing a cassette tape over the monitors if you are not in the first couple rows...

I'm dying to see Portland- this would be the perfect impetus!
oooh, the amazing sping loaded dance floor! I'd come up to the pdx if they played the crystal.

Was gonna be going anyway. :P
Anybody know where exactly this section is?
Orchestra 1 - TT (14 and 15)
I know the pit seats are listed as just GA/PIT
Either way, i'm sure they're pretty good. Gonna be a great night!
Ahhh! I don't get paid until Thursday, but I don't want to miss pit tix. Hopefully I can swing a ticket tomorrow. =D
December seems so far away!
roll call pre-sale for this show = fucking awesome

Yeahhhh, yeahh! :D
yup. Thank you Roll Call! Gonna be a party
Play WAR BEGUN!! :)
I got pit tickets with the pre-show extravaganza. I couldn't use my American Express so I had to use my bank card. My car payment was just bounced because of this purchase. I'm still on cloud nine. Ro-Call is the best....EVER!!! Awwwww!! :D
I'M SO EXCITED!! :D :D :D :D
Had some panicky moments attempting to get these ticks. :-\ Would not let me sign in. I finally registered and got 4 ticks in Orch 2 . They are row UU which I would assume is back about 20 rows. Not a lot of evidence of the LA show getting flooded with Roll call purchases, so I wonder who gets the first few rows (Maybe if I bought them in pairs they would be better?). In SB I bought roll call seats, and a friend of mine bought tickets the day of the show and was in front of me. I can't really complain, by all photographic evidence anywhere in Orch 2 is incredible.
Well - there are good things and bad things about this - First off the Gibson sucks balls. The good thing is that Sharon Jones and DK is a BAD ASS show - Def the best opener MMJ has ever had...or that i remember. I also did the Sound Check package - I am curious as to what that exactly means.....aside from what I assume will be the obvious...sound check
What sucks about the Gibson?

I'm curious as well, that's the 2nd person that has said this. This will be my first show at the Gibson, I'll be rockin the pit so I'm sure it won't be that bad.
The bill Graham civic the following day is no radio city either, can't stand that place. Nothing could possibly be as bad as T5 though!
Me and Rizzo will be there will bells on! Got the sound-check package and GA seats which I'm hoping means we'll be already standing there when doors open  Going to San Fran too, cuz you know... why not since we're already in the state and all. Ms. Y - I am really hoping to see your sweet face!
As far as sightlines and acoustics go, the Gibson is pretty touch notch in LA.

HEY NOW! :D this is an unexpected treat! great news! i've got a GA tic, too. never been in the pit at gibson. looking forward to it.
i will prob have to miss SF b/c of work. i'm not too upset, though. i had a pretty good run last summer.
will add this bit of advice: take the metro to universal if you can. parking can be a bit of a nightmare/crapshoot. once took me 40 min just to get through the parking booth b/c they had ONE kid working on a saturday night.
the metro line is directly across from the entrance to universal studios. you can walk up the hill to the park, or take the free tram.
I saw Pearl Jam at the Gibson back in 2009, and I had no problems with the venue. Of course, I was sitting in some very nice seats courtesy of the 10 Club.
Quote from: Shug on Sep 19, 2011, 06:51 PM
What sucks about the Gibson?
It's true that it has been quite a while since I've been there, like since it was called Universal, but the ushers were serious dance nazi's there. I was in the 3 or 4 for for Al Green and they wouldn't let anybody migrate an inch from directly in front of their seat; same thing happened when I saw Earth Wind and Fire there (okay, this makes it sound like it was in the 70's, but it weren't, it was the
late '90's and the early 00's...
the '70s were when I saw John Denver there ).
Anyway, the pit is prob a different situation than regular seating, but every time I've been there rockin out has been problematic for me.
Then there's the whole "mall" aspect. Blech.
Work schedule permitting, I'm going to have to see what this Gibson Theater is like for myself. ;)
Grabbed a souncheck ticket, and keeping my fingers crossed.
I have not been there since they put a roof on it 30 years ago. I saw many killer shows there in the late 70's early 80's, most notably Santana twice. I never understood why they put a roof on such a great outdoor venue, it blew away the Greek. Maybe so they could have MMJ in December. I find it almost impossible to qualify that place as sucking.
Can someone describe the GA pit area, as in how many people fit down there and how crowded they let it get?
Out of curiosity, how much was was one ticket?
What is the Mailing List Password? :(
I would like to get a few Pitt GA tickets when they go on sale today at 3 .

Well....maybe sucking is a bit harsh, but compared to other venues in LA this is no where near the others. Sound is just Ok - acoustics aren't great - Amphitheater with a roof on is an awful thing i think. A venue like the Wiltern, with a GA floor would be better - The Gibson cant really make up its mind about what it wants to be - It tries to have a smaller boutique vibe, yet can change the fact that it's capacity is over 6K - Maybe I am just a bit bitter for missing the Pantages show, which I think is a waaaaaay better venue then the Gibson is or could ever be
I kinda blew it, didn't see there were two different "events" to click on, one with the pre-show party and the other just tix. Once I figured that out, all the GA's were gone so I ended up with section 5 row GG. Kinda bummed, but oh well, at least I'm in there and in the first section of seats and not too far off to the side. Def. better seats than I had for the Pantages. Just stoked to be seeing MMJ again this year!
Pit tix just became available again
Who got their pit tickets?! I did! I did! So excited!
Just to let everyone know, the pre-sale was marked "sold out" for a while, but now it's back, so go get your tix quick!
;D Pit & sound checkfor LA & SF
Trying to Wrangle some forum Peeps out West!
I almost feel guilty how many times I have been able to see the boys this year? But I am really feeling more grateful than anything!
:dankk2:
Wikipedia (as fickle a source as it may be) mentions that Gibson is known for it's acoustics...hopefully there is some truth to that. After being in the beautiful outdoors for my last couple of MMJ shows, it will be nice to be inside again where they can turn the volume up an extra notch! Wiki also alludes that the GA section is only 100 people, but that doesn't make much sense. None of that matters though because I WILL BE THERE!!!! :) :)
I like the idea of a 100 Max on the PIT....thats worth a call to the venue to confirm.

Pantages was nice, but the acoustics on the balcony were nothing to write home about. Since the Universal Amphitheater was designed for music, It makes sense it would have decent acoustics. Once they put a roof on it it ceased being an amphitheater, at least in my understanding. The Greek was the worst. Santa Barbara Bowl was pretty good sound, but I was fairly close. My seats look pretty good, but they are the last row of sec. 2. Who bought all the ones in front of me?
Sage advice Ms.Y! Seeking recommendations for a hotel conveniently close, yet safe and hopefully a hair-free shower.....Anybody got one worth mentioning?
Whee!!!!
There is the Radison RIGHT THERE, but it will be $$ and not the coolest place to stay ( not a fan of city walk)....maybe look into something near hollywood and highland - you can take the metro from there to Universal and walk up the hill

Anyone score any pit tickets this morning? All that's coming up for me is Orch 8 & 9's. Those sections are TERRIBLE!
LiveNation sent me the Presale Password 2 hours late. Thanks LiveNation
;D I keep getting emails from Live Nation and Ticket Master with alerts for the tickets to the Gibson show. Lol! Little do they now, I've had my pit tickets since Monday! F' yeah!!! :D
If anyone was luck enough to score 2 extra pit tickets please hit me up! :dankk2:
I was bagging on the venue before, which i am still not blown away with but after having made a trip there I am feeling better - My last show there years ago mind you the seats weren't great and it left a bad taste in my mouth.
I work at Universal and just swung through the backside of the venue to find the door open, so i strolled in to get another look. Smaller then what i remember and the PIT is manageable - comparable to the size of the PIT at the Greek. As long as youre in the first two sections and not the back, you should be fine - for the folks with the PIT tickets it should be great - i would love to get a better idea of how many PIT tickets they actually sell. Venues like the Wiltern and the Greek tend not to over sell it, which is nice cause you aren't stacked on top of eachother.
