1. Nirvana - Incesticide
I played this tonight on the way home from work with all the windows down and the cool fall air rushing through the car. I remember this record warming up many a fall nights of my youth. Something about the tone and the guitar distortion and Kurdt's voice cutting through it all, it just feels like a fall evening, the smell of things burning in the cool night air, spent driving to nowhere particular.
All of them!
Seriously though, so many things sound good in the fall. Love is Hell, Aenima, and C&I come to my mind for some reason.
I'm listening to Insecticide tommorow. Great thread.
Great calls Dave, Tool definatly remindes me of fall. I think I'll break that out tomorrow.
For me specifically it's At Dawn, Trail of Dead's Worlds Apart, and Live Phish 19

I literally was just going through my albums last night and stumbled into Tool, and I thought.... "well nah, not quite yet....." I was in a pretty giddy type of mood and I could tell it wasn't exactly going to mesh... but oh it's coming.... oh it's coming...........

I think Z is more fall than At Dawn, Z came out during the fall too, October 4.

Another notable is Widespread Panic's 'Til the Medicine Takes. I know from a previous post that most forum members have no WSP love but just listen to the track Blue Indian and tell me it doesn't remind you of fall....
...Also good call with the Misfits, should we come up with a Halloween Mix Tape again this yr?....I think the first was lost among the board change-up
Wolof, those are great selections!

A million times yes.
As soon as I saw this thread I thought "Neil Young". Seems quite a few of you agree.

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Top of my list is an easy choice:
Pink Moon - Nick Drake (everyone should own this)
Love a good album in the fall. I have a ton but the first one that comes to mind for some reason is REM's New Adventures in Hi-fi.
It's my favorite REM album and brings back a lot of great memories this time of year.
Great thread

funny you should say that; we were leavning a dinner last night late and it was cool outside and the moon halfway up in the sky and my wife started singing Pink Moon.

YES AND YES. It's perfection for Fall.
Genesis - Wind and Wuthering
In fact, all 3 Nick Drake albums are perfect for the fall.

Agreed. First album that popped into mind when I saw the thread title. I will add, pretty much every Neil album sounds better in the fall. Many events have lead to the autumn season and Neil Young being forever entwined in my mind. I love this season.
Guided By Voices is always one of my favorite fall bands.
Take your pick:

Indeed!!!! I really love the old songs he did with his mum and sister too, that included some old versions of his finished recorded songs (most of which were done solo, too)
And of course most of the Led Zeppelin catalogue really shines in the Fall.....
Randomly found this version the other day though!! Hope I didn't already post this somewhere...... I've been excited about it since I heard it

Yessir, except as far as I know Season 3 (the one without Michelle Trachtenberg) is not out
Also, Pearl Jam's No Code album is a good one for Fall. I think it was released late August when it first came out, but I remember playing it non stop. I still think it's one of their best albums.

I've got to say Radiohead "King of Limbs" didn't like it too much at first but it's been raining and cold here the last few weeks. It's perfect now, maybe just me. If you didn't like it at first skip "Bloom" it worked for me. Love it.

Husker Du- Candy Apple Grey (Can you imagine this was a major lable debut? They must of been like, "What the fuck?")
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas (Bunch of artsy types who needed a punch in the nose, but man this is just so beautiful and atmospheric)

Nice list and I especially agree with you on Husker Du.
Also, I saw Cocteau Twins live back in the day. Galaxie 500 was opening so my friend and I went for the opening act. Speaking of artsy types you wanted to punch in the face... My friend and I were standing during Galaxie's set and douchebags behind us kept telling us to sit down. We just ignored them of course and kept dancing to Galaxie! The Cocteaus ended up being a pretty good show fwiw and I do agree with your description of their music. The tour I saw them was off the release of Heaven or Las Vegas. Blue Bell Knoll is another favorite album of mine from this band.
Nothing captures fall's nostalgia like It Still Moves.

The rusted chains of prison moons
Are shattered by the sun...
I walk a road, horizons change
The tournament's begun...
The purple piper plays his tune,
The choir softly sing;
Three lullabies in an ancient tongue,
For the court of the crimson king...
I had the Explosions in the Sky album All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone playing in the car during a late night, windy, rainy autumnal drive yesterday. Perfect.
For me, perfect Fall albums...
Howlin' Rain - self-titled
Black Crowes - Amorica
Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros - Streetcore
Pearl Jam - self-titled
Jeff Buckley - Mystery White Boy
These are the ones getting the most play by me right now... ;D

Funny you should say that. Closing Time is in my regular cleaning mix. Its also a great album to enjoy with a glass of nice bourbon
