Will the band maintain the same general setlist structure for the December shows? Victory dance>circuital openers and the majority of the new album? I tend to think not, especially in places they just played this summer and are returning to in December. Thoughts? Opinions?
Excellent question. They seem to be backing this album hard so it wouldn't surprise me if the setlists remain similar, but you just never know...
Nothing would make me happier than to not hear Victory Dance in the first slot at Nashville...that alone would be cool.
Don't get me wrong- I love VD. But they've toured Circuital pretty hard this year with most songs fitting into the same mold. Why not show people other ways the album can be contorted in a live setting?
I'm thinking, with no evidence whats-so-ever, that they are going to break it open- especially at MSG!!!
I'm thinking a Does Xmas Fiasco Style first encore would be appropriate for that time of year.
I'd love to see the setlists get a bit looser now that they are a bit further from the release of Circuital. I'm not saying there should be less new material, but just more changing things up.
One fun thing about the shows this year has been hearing some things that used to usually be at the end of a set (like Anytime and Mageetah) played early in the set instead.
I'd also love to see Steam Engine played every night instead of Dondante. An MMJ show without Steam Engine always feels a little incomplete to me somehow. Dondante has been particularly amazing recently, though.
they are actually going to be covering this album from start to finish at each show....

I am guessing the setlists will be the same.
They have been working in old favorites (Cobra, War Begun, etc.) ... would like to see them keep doing that. Like War Begun in Greensboro-PLEASE!!!!!
And can I get a full Run Thru????
I'd guess that Nashville will be very similar to the festival set lists they've been playing this year.
I'm hoping SF gets Lay Low (which has become my #1 white whale). And Strangulation. And some xmas tunes.
that's all :dankk2:
Seeing them for the first time on back-to-back nights in Boca and Orlando so that I can hopefully hear a varied setlist each night and catch most of the songs I'd like to hear. Dondante, Lay Low, OBH, Run Thru (full version please!), Remnants, Honest Man, Cobra, PWW, Master Plan, O is the One That is Real, Touch Me Pt 2, SST....asking kind of a lot, so they should probably just let me design the setlists for both nights. :)
because they are playing all places they didn't play earlier this year (except LA), I bet all the set lists keep the same structure. Nashville I fully expect the VD -> Circuital opener.
At MSG they could play a similar setlist, but if I could just hear something other than the VD gong at the beginning I would be thrilled.
there's no way it's not going to be first unless they release a new record. look at the evil urges setlists from 08 and compare them with each other up until 2011. the beginning and end are always the same. pretty lazy for such a creative band. it will never not piss me off that they are weak at writing unique setlists.
Thats true. In 2010 they opened mostly with TWTHS or OBH, which was cool... 2009 doesn't really count because they played like 3 headlining shows in Japan, but in 2008 they even opened up the Chicago 2 night run with EU and (basically) opened up NYE with it.
My wishlist for a December change-up:
The regular set ends with OBH, leaving the crowd wondering "could they be done after "only" 2 hours?" (reading that magnifies how spoiled we are). The encore break is noticeably longer than the usual "back in the blink of an eye" and when the crowd is at a peak frenzy, MMJ returns for a 45 min encore trip of Cobra-extended Dondante-extended Steam.
(and while I'm wishing, I'll take War Begun, something of the haunting reverb variety like If It Smashes Down or One in the Same (love the youtubes from T5)and back to back Anytime and Losin' Yo Head)
pretty please ;)

jesus.. um...
YES?!
I pretty much agree that this is just the second leg of the Circuital tour, so expect the one-two punch opening of VD > C, then something from Z like OTR. I'd also expect a lot of OBH-ending encores.
That said, its time for the return of a full, complete version of Run Thru!
I'd be okay with more Steam Engine, too. And at least one other Omnichord tune besides TM2, such as TIWTCWY.
Since Carl got to stretch his solo legs with Carried Away in 2010, perhaps Jim could deliver a fully realized version of the tune he debuted in Austin last week, Change.
For MSG/NYC, I expect a bit more. Some horns will show up. At least one holiday tune. Might even get the entirety of Circuital in there.
My top three wish list, yet to see live, would love at MSG: The Bear, War Begun, Masterplan.
Would love to see them open up with OBH as they did in 2010, gets the crowd up and also gives a little more intrigue ijnto what will be the last show.
The ones I would love to see get into the rotation are:
The Bear
At Dawn
Cobra
Into The Woods
X-mas curtain

I hope you get your tunes this tour. The Bear and Masterplan are at the top of my list now. sadly I still need to see a phone went west and steam engine. how's that work out? fucked. yet, I've seen lowdown twice, I will sing you songs at least twice, death is the easy way, it's about twilight, cobra. but even with all those songs and that many shows there are still so many songs I wish I could see live. War Begun took everybody over at meadow brook. hypnotizes you. good luck, I wish I got another show this winter.

TIWTCWY would be such an appropriate message to open every show, especially around the holiday season!

totally with you on these 2.... masterplan was amazing at T5... would love to hear it again.... and for some reason, i've never seen into the woods live. probably tops on my "never heard" list.
I'm with Sticky and Nate, would LOVE to hear Masterplan...

Can i just get a "Good Night and Happy trails" in tulsa? Thats not to much to ask right? ;)
