Title: Best Gigs Of 2011
Post by: dragonboy on Dec 21, 2011, 05:10 AM
2 standouts for me - Mogwai @ Brixton Academy in Feburary & again @ the Roundhouse in July . Two of the best gigs i've ever been to, both were simply incredible.

Mogwai Fear Satan @ Brixton exceded all expectations & brought tears to my eyes & New Paths @ the Roundhouse was just mindblowing.

Mogwai: New Paths To Helicon part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnDqalVWeSk#)

Too many others to chose from but these spring to mind - The Cult in January were great, Elbow @ the O2 in March, The Sword in May, Willy & Dan of Richmond Fontaine in July & MMJ last month.

I'd have to agree on The Sword as one of my top gigs this year; also MMJ in Leeds and Manchester made for a great weekend.

Other standouts were White Denim (in a tiny room), Roger Waters in Barca/London, and Iron Maiden at the O2.

Concert schedule was pretty limited this year for many (shitty) reasons

Jacket- After 5 years of not coming here I finally get a show. Not only a great show but with backstage passes and a chance to talk to TTT quite a bit and got to meet Jim. Proof that I'm an awesome dad as the boy still talks about this months later.

Slobberbone - Be jealous Penny. They were on f'n fire that night

Pokey laFarge & The South City 3- I cannot say enough good things about these guys. If you ever get a chance to see them, see them

The Black Angels - Fantastic show and the show was in the middle of a tornado outbreak. Nothing like rocking out while Mother Nature tears the area a new asshole (and with BH there too).

Here are my top 10, it's been a pretty amazing year.  I'm only going to list a band one time, or 3/4 or this list would be MMJ and Richard Thompson.  Still have Drive-By Truckers yet to go this year.

1.  MMJ, tie between Philly and MSG, with MSG probably winning thanks to Steamdonte
2.  LCD Soundsystem - Terminal 5, NYC
3.  Portishead, Convention Hall, All Tomorrow's Parties, Asbury Park, NJ
4.  Radiohead, Roseland Ballroom, NYC
5.  Jeff Mangum, Paramount Th., All Tomorrow's Parties, Asbury Park, NJ

7.  Richard Thompson, Maryland Hall, Annapolis, MD
8.  Soundgarden, Red Rocks, Morrison, CO
