Title: So I made a Clock Arms teeshirt
Post by: el_chode on Jun 14, 2010, 06:54 PM
I'm looking for feedback from you guys - I'd like to print this to wear on Day 3 of the October Jackethon...and anyone else who wants one is more than free to do so. As I've said in other threads, my idea for a clock arms shirt went from this:
  \o/
toOot

to these:

Other ideas are to change the text to say "Hey Patrick, What Time Is It?" around the image, or a combination of the two with the words on the front and image on the back or something (though that seems a bit much).

And I do not wish to cause any conflicts with merchandising rights, Patrick's personal rights or privacy, or anything like that, so if that's the case, I apologize and nuke this thread from orbit.

i like the way you think

i'm gonna keep on working on it, the red one was an accident. Run Thru seems like a "green" song to me at heart. But the red just looked cool. I want to try and keep it tri-tone for easier/cheaper screen printing too

LOVE it! Good work, Choder!

I'd like one, if we can make that happen.

Nice work.  Let me know when you start taking orders.

I'd like the image to put on an actual clock face.  That would be cool, no?

This is perfect...

If you guys want to manipulate this shit into something more adventurous, feel free. In fact, email or PM me and I'll send you some of the raw files or export it into a lossless large format.

My only suggestion is to avoid cafe press since they are disgustingly overpriced, even if you're just doing it for your own purposes and not "selling" anything. I'll probably print my shirt at a local place called the tshirt factory or something since they screen print and they're local and I won't pay $20 for a $5 shirt.

They all look great man!  I'm partial to green.  Definitely dig the "What time is it?" one.  You know Choder, I'm feeling your keyboard art one to.  You definitely have to put that in that thread but I think that would be a cool shirt to.  OK, enough of trying to complicate things.  I would love a green L/XL.

Frickin' sweet

These are so badass, I can't even stand it! I really dig the first one, but if you pick one and make a few, I'll trade you out for a Jim shirt  I'm having made.

Let me know if you're interested in that, I'll send you a rough image of mine.

I'm flat broke. I'm unemployed and can't find a paying job (or any unpaid ones for that matter). So I won't be making any shirts until the shows edge closer.

Once I do, I'll probably try and get like 10 to see if I can get a bulk rate at around $10/shirt. That's what I got last time I made up some tshirts, so we'll see. It beats the $17 I'd pay at cafe press.

With that said, if you've got your own ways or means, feel free to contact me and I'll send you the highest quality version I can to DIY. If anyone wants to pool resources to try and get some made as cheaply as possible, that's fine too.

Also, when you guys say "the first one", I assume you mean the one that's charcoal, right?

Hey, el_C.  I'll pay you $10 for a crack at that image.  Do you do Paypal?  Email me: johnnYYac@comcast.net

Its a cool design.  I could make a shirt with your design and your permission, of course.  Make sure you sign the image somewhere.  I'd like to see that in one of the bottom corners.

Let's help 'im out, if ye can.  If I can make a shirt and a clock from el_chode's design, that's worth $10.

the BLUE what time is it.......that is pretty fantastic!

Nice Skillzzzzzzzzzzz
:)

I am not too savvy with all of this image/transfer/cafe press etc ....so if anyone takes this project on, I will be happy to pay!

Tie Dying is about as sophisticated as I get!

Post by: woodnymph on Jun 15, 2010, 11:50 PM
TIE DYED VARIATION WOULD BE MAGNIFICENT btw. Hell if you put it on white, I'd dye it maself!

Put me down in the book for one. DIg the "oh shit run!" theme in there somewhere too!

I likes the charcoal one but I likes how the face is a bit simpler in the red one... or something about it.... I'd take 'em either way, very nice indeed!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Thanks guys, I'm flattered that you like it so much, especially since I've got no formal artistic background at all. Thing is, I feel dirty making any money or profiting from using Patrick's face/image and the band's logo, especially without their sanctioning it. Hell, I just spent a semester learning how to negotiate a live performance agreement and who gets what from merchandising rights, so I feel doubly dirty in that sense.

That's not to say we shouldn't print these, I'll look into the cost to make a bunch and see where it goes from there

JohnnYY you've got mail

I also wanted to point out that the "Hey Patrick!" line of shirts are all technically 3-color shirts, making them cheaper to print.

Alrighty, I'm gonna figure out a good way to do this as cheap as possible as far as organizing it. I think getting an official estimate of how many people want to commit will make pricing it out easier.

Any loose change will go to an extra shirt for Mr. Clock Arms himself, then we'll just have to figure out a way to sneak in a tshirt cannon to the Petty show or something.

Yes, the charcoal one, is the one I like.  They're all sweet tho!

I'm with you on the budget thing...I was wanting to get some made after the Nashville show, but here it is June, and still nothing.  I was hoping to get several made to get the discount.  Give a few, trade a few...what have you.  It looks like I'll be waiting til closer to show time too.  Oh, well... :-/

Contacted a local screenprinting place, waiting to hear back...

been super busy since I'm half employed now and I'm trying to get my ass in at Sony or MTV with any luck...deadline is 7/1 and the Supreme Court just invalidated my writing sample.

But I'll keep y'all posted on prices and timelines. I plan on doing two - charcoal and blue, charcoal with the rock out/clock out words, blue being "hey patrick what time is it"

AMC - what do you mean by head? Like patrick's head? I just went to the images on the main MMJ site and looked around for a clear shot of Patrick's mug. I forget which one though.

Nice work Chode!  I like the blue "what time is it".  Plus I love the Cracker reference, such a good song!  Sign me up, i'd like a white one so we can tie-dye em.

Some sort of variation on this would cool too.  (http://www.defunkd.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/harleytux1.gif)

OHHH I butchered him. The source images are stock drums from an online retailer, Pat's severed head, and his severed arms, appropriately re-sized and oriented to look like they've blended in.

I'll inquire as to adding in white, they do a different price structure for white, and it might be cheaper since I can just run it with black ink.

If you are interested in a shirt, would you mind hitting up this page on my blog and answer a few questions?

It's password protected to keep out the general riff-raff. The PW is "Laser Harp"

Also, in a very strange twist...the person I contacted without realizing it just happens to be a member here. You may know him as Honest Man. I shit you not. So, this is the person who we all owe a beer at the shows.

Alright party people, here's the run down:

We've just about got this thing ready to roll and there is good and bad news. The good news is that the shirts should cost about $12 and will be soft'n'thin. The bad news is that to print both designs would require 32 shirts of each design, and I don't think there's enough interest to do that, so I'm only going to run the "hey patrick" shirt in a darker shade of bright blue.

Also, I don't know if my website is just a pain in the ass or no one read this or no one wants them, but based on that there are only 5 people who want shirts, so forget that plan.

New plan:

1) If you'd like a shirt, email me directly with what size and quantity. My email is songofthedeaf at geemail, and put "teeshirt" as the subject so I will be sure to not miss it. Also, Honest Man tells me they'll shrink a size once washed, and I don't think he'd lie, so take that into consideration.

2) Once the shirts are made, we have a few options for delivery: I can mail them, you can come pick them up, or I'll just bring them to the NYC show. I live next door to a post office, so mailing won't be difficult. If I mail them to you, I'll be sure to include tracking/delivery confirmation.

3) As far as the payment is concerned, I'll talk to Honest Man to see how his company does it and if he wants to handle it directly. Otherwise, we can paypal it or just mail a check. Suggestions are welcome.

You might want to start a thread on the off topic and shows forum to try to get more interest. Just based on this thread and people wanting AMC's shirt, obviously more than 5 people are interested
Title: Re: So I made a Clock Arms teeshirt
Post by: el_chode on Jul 15, 2010, 07:30 PM
Alright, I didn't want to spam the shit outta the forum with this, but I'll put it in the off topic first, and if that falls flat, I'll put it in the shows.

No, I don't think I can afford that third night - like physically. I fly in from Hawaii on Monday morning (TTF) and then get to be all jetlagged at that show, so I think Wednesday I'll just use to like catch up with life/sleep.

Here's how it's going down: I"m about to head to the gym, then I'm gonna stop by the local paper product store and get some packing material. I have all the shirts set aside, so I'll get back, pack shit up, and head to the post office (next door to my apt) and get them sent.

It did. We had a nice big fire.

I hope the shirts all arrive as expected. If there are anyissues, please let me know ASAP and I'll rectify. I did package them in somewhat of a rush...wedding is less than 2 weeks away

shirt arrived in today's mail.  no probs what-so-ever.  shirt is as kick ASS in person as posted in this here forum.  many thanks to choder for pulling this together, even at this crazy hectic time of just a couple weeks before his wedding.

p.s. loved the "rock out with your clock out" sticker on the parcel.  tried, in vain, to peel it off intact; so as to apply to the bumper of my sweet ride.  dang.

Great job Chode for going above and beyond the call of duty.

I did as well!  too funny.  Mine ripped too.

My wife pointed out the shirt says "oh shit run" throughout the background which I had failed to notice previously, so no wearing around the kids I'm told  ::)  oh well, it'll be perfect for one of the T-5 nights.

Sorry! If there's a second run, I'll make you a "Oh Snap Run" shirt

Also, I'll talk to Honest Man and see about making the rock out stickers if you all are interested.

I also highly suggest wearing the shirts to ISM night if they are going to be worn on any specific night, since that is the night that'll feature the clock arms (hopefully). I'll rock mine all 5 unless I really start to smell like a rotten corpse.

There has been a shirt sent to Pat as well.

There are extras, you know

Also, sorry for missing those of you expecting shirts last night. I'm going to do my best to get to McGee's tonight with the shirts. I have to finish a 20 page paper fiirst, so if I don't for some reason make it, I will hopefully be parked on 55th again, on the block opposite the venue (btw 10th and 11th). So we can meet after the show maybe, or on the walk over from the bar.

NP VESPA!

As for tonight: My goal is to be on the road by 4/4:30 at the latest. I'm going to try and run thru Joe's Pub by 5:30, and then get in line shortly thereafter.

I have 1 2XL left and 2 XL's as well

I think there's only 5 people without shirts so far. If I can get like 2 or 3 delivered tonight, I can easily sneak more shirts in on Fri or Sat (like JohnnYY's)

(then we talked about the steelers and i told him i had mike wallace on my fantasy team)..this is all coming back to me...but he loved the shirt thing.

He was supposed to get one, so I'll assume he didn't, unless he did and he's playing coy and gonna rock it on stage tonite (I wish).

I wrote Pat a love note in the one that was supposed to get to him. I hope it didn't get deloused and burned.

Should I bring the extra 2XL and have one of you rail riders throw it on stage?

Yep, I don't think I'll make it to McGees on Sat now because I've got a Virgin coming who doesn't get off work until 5. So we can meet up at the venue. If you want my cell# to coordinate, let me know
