Title: Songs:Ohia
Post by: zanjam on Mar 23, 2012, 12:59 AM
So how is it that I've just discovered this guy, and how are there not more posts about him?  Good god, this man has talent!  Indie Neil Young.  Haunting.  Discuss!

Whatever Jason Molina does is great, whether its Songs:Ohia or the amazing and even better Magnolia Electric Co.

You're killing me.  I thought the album Magnolia Electric Co was the best out of all of them, but had no idea there was a band of the same name.  So glad I put it out there!!

Molina has retired Songs:Ohia, but Magnolia Electric Co are basically the same band.

I think his album with Will Johnson was the last thing he's done. I was going to go to a show on that tour at Johnny Brendas in Philly, but the whole tour was cancelled due to his health (drug) problems. Hopefully he's doing alright.

He's been in and out of rehab recently and without insurance his family has racked up quite a bit of medical bills.  They have a place you can donate, so if anyone has a few extra bucks here ya go

I know medical bills in the US can be ungodly expensive, but too bad Molina hasn't earned enough scratch over his career to foot the bill. He and his various bands are every bit as great as the most popular and successful in the indie scene. It sucks that he's never risen above the underground circuit.

Farewell Transmission is the first song in a long time that has rivaled the epicness of Steam Engine for me.

Only other songs that have done that before are Echoes or Dogs from Floyd, or perhaps the live version of Phone.

Such a fantastic tune.

The Water Liars doing Just Be Simple gives me chills

My obsession with Molina has grown quicker than with any other musician. I can't believe I ignored S:O until a couple months ago. Just Be Simple is my fave song so far.

So many of his songs leave me stunned: Just Be Simple, Coxcomb Red, Captain Badass, Blue Factory Flame, etc, etc.

Today, March 16, is the second anniversary of Jason Molina's death. Tragic, sad, and pointless loss.
