They did do a soul record, dude. It's called Z.

Seriously, Lay Low has that soul feel, lyrical content is thematically consistent with a soul song, and it's really drums/bass heavy. Total soul jam, just the amped-up, fuzzed-out KY version.

Or take Wordless Chorus--the original MMJ funky, soultastic, cape song.

They shouldn't devote a whole album to one genre of music. Wordless Chorus is their most successful foray into soul music, The Day is Coming and Thank You Too are also good soul inspired songs.
