Title: Heads Up for Port Chester Public Sale: Ticketfly Now states 10am on Friday
Post by: millerjustin on Sep 13, 2012, 09:41 AM
best of luck to my fellow brothers and sisters that got shut out yesterday - I am less caustic now, but still disappointed.

Coincidentally, I stopped into the Capitol Theatre yesterday and got a tour - this venue is AMAZING - incredibly intimate and every seat is close.  The bar and lounge areas are amazing too.

This is going to blow away T5

Onward!!!!

I had noticed the discrepancy yesterday but I was planning on showing up at 10 am just in case.  Thanks for the heads up!

This venue will blow T5 away. Maybe if they play two albums a night plus covers etc, combined with the beautiful venue, these shows will top T5,imo.

I didn't go to T5, so I can't say forsure, but I definitely think t5 is top-able. I think 4 shows with surprises and guests, etc would be better than t5. Hell if I had a time machine to go back and I had to choose RR2012 or t5, knowing what I know now, I think I'd still choose RR12.

biased, though, of course.

It'll be tough as an overall event, but I agree T5 is top-able. I'm sure these three shows will be amazing, and really looking forward to them, but unless they play their whole catalog + covers, they'll be hard to top for T5 for me.

T5 was more than five shows for me. It was more like one great big show with a 24 hour encore break between shows, and a 48 break between ISM, and Z. It just flows like that in my memory. I'll bet those at RR12 feel something similar about those two shows. Wish I had been able to be there too.

The Capitol Theater in Port Chester is an AMAZING venue.  Will probably be the nicest venue** that i will have seen the band at.  Saw Dylan there 2 wks ago and it is like a smaller version of the NY Beacon Theater but the ground floor is all standing GA with a slight incline so those in the back can see over those in front of them.
No doubt that these 3 shows will be incredible BUT I agree with Eric.
I can't see how anything can top the 5 at T5 and all of the incredible energy, exhaustion, music flow and camaraderie  we all shared.  PC is going to be spectacular but imo, 5 at T5 was a once in a lifetime experience that I don't ever expect to be topped.

**   This means indoor venue.  There is NO PLACE that I have been to that is nicer than Red Rocks.

On one hand, I totally agree that it was a once in a lifetime experience (that I'm bitter I missed), but my point, I guess, is that I'd rather see a setlist full of surprises than an expected setlist. I mean even the encores we're somewhat expected. If they said they were gonna do 6 nights, in a row, and play every song in their catalogue + more, I'd still rather it be mixed up.

Also, after last years boring setlists, RR this year just completely blew me away in every aspect, which is probably what made it that much better (for me).

obviously, t5 was the better, bigger, more important event, and i AM extremely bitter with myself for allowing myself to miss it, but I do still think its top-able. I don't, however, know if PC is gonna be the event that tops it.

The Wiltern sets, while amazing, aren't really "special", in my opinion, the way that t5 sets, Red Rocks sets, Roo08 set, or NYE sets have been in the past. So, the only way I see December maybe, possibly, having even a tiny chance of being condsidered better than t5, is if you include PC + boston.

in the end, I'm talking about my ass because I wasn't at t5, or the wiltern, or roo08, or any NYE sets

I think it's unfair to compare the T5 stretch to any other shows. It was more of a journey than it was a collection of concerts. Night one still ranks as the best concert I've EVER witnessed. I'll never forget strolling down the streets of Manhattan, looking forward to lining up in the late afternoon to drink some concealed-can-wine and chat with fellow MMJ fans about our personal highlights from the previous night. (Also, while hanging outside the venue, that damn car dealership nearly killed a third of the MMJ fan base by speeding in and out of that garage -- am I the only one who vividly remembers being terrified of this?)

While the setlists were "expected" at T5, the encores were something else entirely. No one knew what to expect! "Head Held High"? "Miss You"?!? I'll never forget what someone said while in line one of the nights: "MMJ spends the first set kicking ass, and comes out for the second set to show that they are the world's best party band."

While I don't think T5 will ever be "topped" in terms of an experience, Jim has gone on record saying that another discography residence is a real possibility. Sign me up.

/end T5 nostalgia

Truth!  It's hard to think anything will truly compare to those 5 nights.  Fans (and I fall into this category too) tend to live in the moment...and what you just saw was the best ever (and this is a sign of an amazing band), but T5 was such a pinnacle of awesomeness.

it seems I inadvertently started a debate here....every MMJ show is great without a doubt.

Having just caught the East Coast Trifecta in Philly, MD and BK, I can say that the setlists are amazingly crafted and a stark contrast to the formulaic approach of the last tour (question:  how many back-back Victory-Circuitals can they open with?  Answer:  every show of the tour).

Adding in the no repeat layer 3 nights in a row, plus an historic 1800 person venue and you've got magic.  As an added bonus, I can count on hearing only 1 black metal (please god make it go away).

Also, despite likely 20-30 degree weather, there are literally 50 different places to eat or drink within walking distance.

Because I'm dying to know what is going on with the box set they talked about

Completely agree here.  Seeing MMJ at NoLa Jazz Fest and Newport FF this year was incredible.   Forecastle was SPECTACULAR with the greatest 12 hour experience for me starting from the intimate show under the Overpass into their kick-ass show to headline FOLLOWED by the surreal 1:30 am show with PHJB on the Belle Of Louisville.  The 3 days of fun with so many of you on the NE Trifecta from Philly to MPP to Brooklyn were the best 3 days of music and fun I've had all year.

Every experience, every show with this band is unique and special and usually exceeds expectations. Sharing with the friends and family I have come to know from this community makes it all even better.   I have NO DOUBT that 3 days at the end of the year with no repeats at Port Chester will be beyond amazing.  Will be hard to top that.  But then again, they (and I) will try to do it 2 days later on NYE in Boston.  God bless the insanity.

This type of 12-hour day, 4 shows in 5 nights, crazy setlist insanity is what us MMJ fans live for!

Bring it on!

I'm just hoping the gang and my wife and I can get tickets to all three nights.  I'm not feeling too optimistic, though.  Not sure why - well, I do know why given past experiences.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

Justin, there's a reason us assholes call it Hot BM.

I don't mind the song but I think some thoughts thrown around is that it was a shameless attempt at a "single" to garner younger fans and that the heart of the song (backing vocals and Thai soul sample) aren't played live.

Regarding Hot BM (and thank you for that moniker!!!)

Wife:  where are you going?

me:  Hot BM in the hopper.

wife:  don't come back.

Anyhow, the song insults me because of tracked backing vocals and cheesy Bo keyboard riffs.

Isn't this the best live band in the world??

Cool, thanks for the explanation . The backing tracks never bothered me and I love the horns on the song when they have a section to play it. Didn't notice the sample isn't played.

oops.  Poorly written.  The sample is always played.  It's just that so much sampling bothers a lot of people.

I don't like Hot BM. I hope they play that, Amazed, Circuital, Wonderful, and First Light in the first night.

Other than that I hope they mix up the long jammers. At RR they played Steam, Dondante, and PWW all in one night. I'd like to see those spread out, along with LayLow, Off The Record, etc.

"MMJ: Well, we actually recorded our 5 consecutive shows in Terminal 5 in New York. We played all 5 records, one a night for those 5 nights, and the hardcore fans have been dying to have us release those concerts. But we're talking 99 songs, to mix them together, get high sound quality, put together the art work; we just haven't had enough time. We're not releasing anything that isn't up to our standards."

Real nice! Especially the mention of 99 songs. Sounds to me like when they release it, it'll be the whole shabang and not a best of.

We've waited this long, and I can wait til they have the time to get them done the way they want. Much rather have them be up to their standards than a rush job, whenever it is.

Agreed. It's just nice getting updates every now and then to let us know it's still out there haha.
