Title: Who Needs Transport Between Port Chester & Boston? Who is Driving & Has Room?
Post by: Northern Neighbour on Sep 15, 2012, 01:47 PM
Starting a roll call to see who is doing the 4-show, 5-night run and needs transport.  If there's enough, I'll look into seeing if we can get a charter bus and what the costs would be.

In the meantime, Fully also posted another option.

QuoteI don't want to hijack Ben's thread, but I thought this would be good info to put here for anybody needing cheap transportation from NY to Boston. Megabushttp://us.megabus.com/?news=google09sale&gclid=CLjM8u6tt7ICFQQGnQod2lMAsg

If you book early enough, it looks like you can go in four hours from NYC to Boston for ten dollars.

Also, if plan on driving to the shows and have room in your vehicle, grateful if you can post that info here, too.  Maybe we can carpool if there are enough drivers and people can split the costs of fuel.  Also, people should help pay for parking at the hotels, as I think there will be costs for parking.

I'm in for all four shows, and hotels. Barring anything unforeseen I plan on driving. I'll easily have room in my car for 2-3 more to fit comfortably, and I'd be happy to drive whoever might need a lift.

If some people are driving and can take 1 or 2 people, that would be great if you can post that info here.  Thanks.

So Eric, we would be keen in catching a lift with you.

You got it Ben, but just in case please line up a plan B.

I plan on going, and driving, but being a single dad I'm always "on call". I certainly don't expect anything to come up, but years of parenting have taught me to expect the unexpected.

There is a chance I will be driving my SUV and would have about 3 or 4 extra seats. I will let you know if this is a definite later on.

If people are driving to Boston, be warned that there are parking fees at pretty much every hotel.

I'm sure I can find it myself but do,you know off the top of your head what the Brookline Marriott charges? It's probably up there I'm sure. The hotels by the Amp we stayed at last summer for Boson were like $42.00 a day.

$42.00 a day?!  That's expensive.

I think the Brookline is $26.00 a day.  However, I've run into an issue with the hotel around liability.  Kyle and Lila raised a couple of issues that I wasn't completely aware about - i.e., if the concert gets cancelled or there's inclement weather where people couldn't make it, Carol and I would personally be on the hook for potentially thousands of dollars in liability.  This is only for the Brookline - the Rye Marriott has no liability / attrition policy.

Yeah it was but it was. 4-star hotel, so I expected it to be a bit high. Glad I trained it to Boston for that one, but when TubeTop came to meetup, thankfully there was a street lot there for cheaper. There were lots along the waterfront there because of all the pier activity. I doubt they have that kind of room in the heart of the city. Maybe some garages, but $26.00 for the hotel is just about what they would run too,IMO.

Keeps us posted on the liability issue. It's great all the work you've done on this to help all of us out, but no way should you put yourself out there for that amount of liability.

An alternative would be to try to get another person to negotiate an agreement with the Brookline to get 15 rooms and I get 15 rooms.  Not sure if they would go for it, though.

I'd tell the Brookline to stick it. They should jump at the chance to block off 30 rooms,IMO. Especially since it seems there are a decent amount for the 30th planning to stay also.

I called the other hotel, which is more expensive and has higher parking fees.  They, too, though have an attrition policy of 15 - i.e., there is no liability if blocking off 15 rooms or less.  Anything above, there's an 80% attrition policy so we would need to block off and at the end pay for 80% of the rooms.  For example, if we block off 25 rooms, we would need to book and pay for 20 rooms.  If we don't meet the 20 rooms, then I get penalized.

Problem may be resolved with the Brookline.  They just called and offered an option to sign off on 15 rooms at first, so there's no attrition policy.  Once we fill that block of 15, I'll negotiate an addendum to the initial agreement to reserve another block of 15.

I think you'll be fine on the attrition policy. I know from the looks of that Roll Call that pretty much everyone on it will keep their word, and their rooms. It's the what happens in the event of a blizzard or something, and the show gets canceled?  They shouldn't make you liable if the show is canceled.

Maybe if they're being a stickler, they could at least give you a waiver based on the show only? Show goes on, rooms get paid for, canceled for some reason, you're not liable. If the show goes on, we're there, so not really much of a risk on your end,IMO. If they make you liable no matter what, even for 15 rooms, I still don't think you should put yourself out there for that. Awfully generous of you to risk it, but that's really going above and beyond,IMO.

I know I would totally understand if you don't want to take that risk, and imo you really shouldn't take it.

Thanks Eric. I spoke with the hotel Director of Sales and he said by doing the 15 + 15 approach, there would be no attrition applied, so no liability.  I'll have to read the fine print once I receive the documentation, but we should be ok.

You can also take the train from Port Chester, too (I think you switch in Stamford)..

If anyone has room for 2 on Sunday, I'd love a ride.

If not, If anyone wants to take the train together, I'd be up for that. I think we have to switch in Stamford.

Sorry, I haven't had any time to look into this.  If someone wants to volunteer to call a few bus / transportation outfits in the Port Chester / Rye area, please be my guest.

An Amtrak train right now from Stamford is running $44.00 one way to Boston South St. station. A 3.5 hr trip, approx.

Not sure what the train fare is from Rye-Stamford.

Another option is to go back into NYC on Sunday and take the MegaBus or Bolt Bus for 20$ each way...(4 and 1/2 hours)

but i'm all for the AMTRAK party, too..
