"It Makes No Difference" featuring Brittany Howard, recorded at the Newport Folk Festival. I was lucky to be at this performance. Hope I can pick up a copy.

a couple of us were talking about this. it gets better... theres a new, unreleased song on it! as well as a download code that includes Honest Man live. I'm gonna assume that its from Red Rocks, and that was one hell of a live version of Honest Man.

NEED NEED NEED. I love Black Friday and Record Store Day. See ya all on line at the record store.
Love RSD! I'm going to have to mark the calendar ahead of time to bug my record store friends to put one of the MMJs aside.

Hey, I am more than "someone else." I am JCOYOTE!!! Too bad my handle here is different than my handle on the main page. Why are there two accounts, by the way?
Ok this is all kinds of awesome, a new song, "Grab a Body"!

Since I don't have any record stores in my area within reasonable driving distance that would be likely to get this in, who wants to help a brother out? I'd pay for mine+shipping and cover the cost of yours too if anybody would be willing to lend a hand.

I'll certainly get an extra if I can.
Could someone also help me out and grab an extra? I'd be happy to pay whatever is deemed necessary of course.
It's usually incredibly easy to get anything MMJ in Louisville, so ill grab extras
i'll try to grab as many as i can from oz in tuscaloosa
I may also be in need of an extra copy if someone is willing to part with it. There are 2 stores 'near' me that are always on the list of participants, but never actually participate.
peeps that aren't within areas of record stores, there are a good amount of stores that will ship. i think soundstagedirect.com also gets RSD releases.
yeah we ordered the Friends Again/Outta My System AUT from Looney Toons records in NY (i think, could have some or all of that information wrong).
Yay, sounds great! Very excited about the unreleased song! :cheesy:

Yup, I got my Friends Again/Outto My System from there last year, great!
The store I go to doesn't allow people to grab more than one copy of anything since they are limited. I'm hoping for the MMJ release for sure. That's an awesome performance.
awesome release!!

Looney Tunes is my local store (15 minute car ride) and I try to stop even once or 2x a month. Great place with awesome people and great selection. What an independent music store should be.
they killed that song at Newport. awesome news, totally going to have to grab this.

Cant wait to add this to the vinyl collection and really can't wait to hear this new tune!!
i really hope the new song isn't an instrumental.

So let's start making our guesses........is "Grab a Body" going to be a slow or uptempo song........I'm gonna go with slow.
CHIMMJFAN
I'm thinking its a preview of the Jim solo album but thats 100% guess
my guess is that its going to be like the self hypnosis jams. not a bad thing but i want a new MMJ song.

Just being hopeful... and optimistic. We need a new rocker!
With that title it could be a good song to dance to or it could be about sex or it could be about robbing graveyards during the upcoming zombie apocalypse.
I'll most likeky be able to snag a few.

I hope to have this in hand tomorrow, the perks of having once worked at a record store that has survived. The owner called today, holding two copies for me.
I've been hesitant to share this story, but its too good to keep to myself.
I took my daughter to her first concert, Alabama Shakes, in April. Afterward, we met Brittany Howard out back... photo, autograph, and a nice chat about how awesome MMJ is. We also discussed that the Shakes and Jacket would be at Newport on the same day.
Brittany and my daughter, Katherine.

It got me thinking, so I emailed management that I thought a collaboration with Jim and Brittany at Newport would be perfect. I got a reply that my email had been forwarded to Jim. Later, they told me Jim had reached out to Brittany while they were on tour with Jack White. Finally, an email a few weeks before Newport came in... "We're trying to make your Newport dreams come true."
I was there, in Newport, when Brittany came on stage to join MMJ for It Makes No Difference. I was blown away, brought to tears. Having it released on vinyl is such delicious icing! This release is really special to me.

How about MMJ plays Dondante with BH doing Carl's sax part on Kazoo? Work on that will ya?

I think this just goes to show how much the band and their management care about their fans. That's a really cool story John and thanks for sharing! Now I can't wait to hear both songs (speaking of which. Once again, if someone could snag a copy for me that'd be beyond amazing!).
Listening to It Makes No Difference for the first time right now.
The vocal mix is excellent. A solid recording, better than I remember it, to be honest. Her mic was low in the mix, as I recall. This is stellar.
:bath:
That is the coolest damn story I've ever heard Yac! Nice work!
Record looks sweet too! Can't wait to hear this B-side.
Great to hear that story once again, John! What a great orchestration of a collaboration leading to a song captured in vinyl for all eternity.

Raunchy, spare guitar and bass line
Epic trumpets
Wah wah wah wah
Horns infused throughout
This is all instrumental
Groovin'
Lots a horns
Mellow outro, a la the... no wait... major spoiller

I assume that I'll have no problem getting multiple of these, because I've never had the problem before with MMJ RSD releases. If thats the case, I'll have some for whoever needs em.
This is, I suppose, technically their 6th RSD release correct? The 3 picture disks that were left over from T5, Circuital, FA/OMS, now this.

I was unable to score any copies at Newbury Comics in Leominster, MA. I arrived 20 minutes after they opened. I'm surprised, but Newport Folk Fest is somewhat local so that might have garnered more interest. eBay has had some going for $20+. Sorry I couldn't come through for folks.

seems to be a trend.. I will be calling around soon myself.
As of 1 pm, bleeker street records in NYC still had a few copies.
$10.
As someone mentioned above, the packaging is pretty weak. Basically a plastic sleeve with a photo behind it.
If you have a bookshelf with vinyl on it, this just won't fit in.
Id rather have music than no music though
Just called my local store - Trax on Wax - and they sold out of all RSD vinyl in the first half hour.
So I bit the bullet and ordered from the UK outfit - Spin, see Dillsnufus post above - since I couldn't find it anywhere else. They only charged 2 BPs for shipping and with currency conversion I'm looking at just over $20, incl. shipping, with probably another buck or two foreign transaction fees tacked on.
Looking for the album pictured below, and MMJ. Managed to only get Grateful Dead Winterland. I can paypal you money immediately. Joe Strummer would be cool too if anyone can manage.

I braved the madness that was the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, MA only to find out Newbury Comics was sold out.
I really want to hear the new track.
Got my Forever Changes on ebay, but i'm still counting on someone from here for It Makes No Difference. No Way I'm gonna pay like $40+ for two songs.
Looks like Northern NJ was shut out (i'm home at my parents house in Bergen County for the holiday wknd). This is including the iconic TUNES in Hoboken, they were salty on the phone as apparently they ordered it...got charged for a few copies...none shipped and no more to order. only 1 spot in Westwood (which i had never heard of before) got 3 copies, but they were sold out by the time I called.
Back in Philly seems only AKA Records got copies, and had 3 as of just before noon. I was able to snag a copy as a co-worker lives near by, but was denied when he tried to but more than one copy. Luckily I am the bigger fan so I'll just have to up the anty on the beer-trade being made for the errand.
Good luck everyone!

im sorry (that im not sorry) about this rude statement, but: what the fuck is your deal? do you care about anything other than cutting deals? do you ever post for any reason other than to obtain something from someone that you cant acquire yourself?
People seem to want the vinyl but are having a hard time locating a copy.
I posted where people can get some in NYC for $10 at a reputable record store.
Used At Dawn goes for like 15-20 on ebay.
People are paying $20 for this, so I figure it's a fair deal for someone.
it that you are always messaging and posting about this and that. offering a poster in exchange for good tickets, then not being satisfied wit hthe tickets and therefore wasting my time. messaging me to ask if I have any extra RSD vinyl a couple of hours ago, then turning around and offering it up.

I messaged you because while I was home for the holiday, I went to a local store and they did not get 1 copy to sell.
I rode the train home to NYC and saw your post, so I figured I send an email.
Then I got back into NYC and headed to Bleeker Street Records.
I didn't hear anything from you until now.
Someone might want to do the deal if they haven't played their At Dawn in years. I'm not asking for a rare sealed one.
I cast a net with some of my posts hoping to find someone who will do a deal. Many people wanted the MMJ Burwell NYE and I found someone to trade two tickets to their Williamsburg show. Great transaction. The guy seemed stoked with the poster and I was stoked to get a free show for the GF and I.
Dills are you from nepa or are you just in for the holiday?
Like many of you I wasn't able to get this from my local record store so I'm also looking for anyone who has an extra one. I'm happy to purchase but I'd also be willing to trade one our MMJ posters for it. You can see a few of the ones we've done below or go to http://expressobeans.com/public/search.php?text=dumbgun&class=0 (http://expressobeans.com/public/search.php?text=dumbgun&class=0) to see them all.
Thanks!

Don't know how many they have left in stock, but looney tunes has it available for order on their website now (you have to scroll down to see it):
Never mind...it says sold out. Sorry if I got your hopes up.

Not impressed with the packaging. A paper insert, 2-sided, in a plastic sleeve. More interested in how it sounds, though. Haven't listened yet.
Glad I managed to snag one, but I had the same disappointment with the packaging. Especially compared to the Mad Season; great looking sleeve and a McCready signature to boot. (Side note: I apparently got awfully lucky as the Burlington Newbury Comics had them both when I stopped in around 6.)
Does anyone know why this time around alot of people got shutout but in the past it hasn't been that big of a deal? Was this run more limited than usual?
Grimey's was sold out by the time I got there today, so if anyone comes up with extras and doesn't want to gouge on the price, I would very much appreciate your shooting me a pm. I'm still going to search around, but this is always the best place to look for good people. Happy Thanksgiving yall.

where is the honest man version from?
I'm pretty sure "Honest Man" is from the Newport Folk Festival. Neither of my local record stores had this record, I was so bummed. I'm sure I'll get to hear it someday. I'm pumped about "Grab a Body."

I first assumed red rocks but it's a longer version... thinking T5?
Need one! Boo. My store was sold out.
I have a couple extras if anyone is interested
I am!
Working now, ill message you later.
I was also at the NFF in 2010 when both Jim and Levon played. Jim was popping up on stages everywhere in addition to his own show. He sang a couple of tunes with the Sat. headliner, John Prine, on the main (Fort) stage and I fully expected him to play with Levon, the headliner on Sun. but it was not to be.
Here are a couple of photos I took of Levon's show on the same Fort Stage that MMJ recorded It Makes No Difference with Brittany two years later. The second photo has a bunch of bands joining him on their last song.

I've watched about 40 of the IMND 10" release on eBay. Those that have ended were fetching about $20. The latest went for $14. There are 29 active listings. For those shut out, it might end up being a reasonable option.
I am loving this release. Waterlloo Records in Austin had 15 of there was one left at the end of the day, made me happy to see it fly off the shelf like that. Grab A Body is growing on me as well, loving the outtro.

I also went to Waterloo! Couldn't listen until I got back home to Houston on Sunday but it was a nice surprise when I finally got home. Grab a Body was a nice surprise.
Is Jim saying anything during the outtro? I have always wondered if it was an actual lyric.
I can't find anywhere on the ATO Records site to put in the code for the digital downloads that came with mine. The URL that it says to go to takes me to a different page. I don't even see this release mentioned anywhere on the site. Any ideas?
I pre-ordered mine on 10/19....just heard from the record shop that I am on a waiting list. Fingers and toes crossed.
Sorry if this was discussed already but did anyone confirm that this Honest Man was the Red Rocks version? And if so, how did they make it 30 seconds longer?
The Honest Man from Wiltern is a little over 9 minutes. Can't listen at work but maybe they line up: http://www.archive.org/download/http://archive.org/details/MMJ2012-09-12.MMJ-Wiltern-9-12-12 (http://www.archive.org/download/http://archive.org/details/MMJ2012-09-12.MMJ-Wiltern-9-12-12)

Since this story is so cool, I have a follow up to reiterate how much this band cares....
I have two friends who are a couple. They've both been friends of mine since high school. The female had a brother who was born with significant health issues, both mentally and physically. When he was born he was given a very small amount of years to live. He ended up living way longer. This past summer he passed away. Her boyfriends brother was a friend of mine, and one of the most loved people that I know. He passed away this past year, too. It was seriously one of those "of all fucking people, why did it have to be him?" situations. His death led me to become much better friends with his little brother, who is the male in this couple I'm talking about. So between the two of them, they have suffered major loss in their lives. Its a rough situation.
They're both huge MMJ fans, and both went to Red Rocks this year with my roommate and some other friends. The girlfriend here emailed someone at MMJ land and explained the entire situation, and requested I Will Be There When You Die. She didn't get a response until after the show, but when she got one, whoever sent it said that the song wasn't planned at all, but Jim had played it anyway. The idea that I got from the response email was that the email had hit Jim hard, and the death of Jason Nobel the night before solidified the fact that it would be played. It wasn't on the setlist, btw.
Just sayin', this is band that clearly really cares.
That story is epic. Wow. Really cool stuff.
damn. that is amazing. thanks for sharing.
This video may have been posted before, but I haven't seen it 'til today. A serenely happy Brittany Howard mentions singing with MMJ at Newport.

That's a sweet video. Thanks for sharing that with us Waddy!
I just got home, ahead of the wife and kids, so I just spun It Makes No Difference REALLY LOUD! It is an awesome recording. Just beautiful. What Brittany brings to the harmony during the chorus is beyond what I imagined. Is it perfect? Not quite, but damn near, especially for a live recording and two vocalists new to each other. The whole of MMJ is right on it all the way. Carl's guitar work, and Clint's sax, are stellar. Time to run it again...
Ahhhh yeah!
Does anyone know if there are multiple color versions of the 10"? I thought there is only one in clear orange but an eBay seller has one up in yellow....
Pretty sure they're all orange.
I'm also pretty sure, after giving Grab a Body a spin, that it is the birthplace of the IWSYS outro. It fits the rhythm of GaB more naturally.

I too am trying to figure what performance this is from. These two do seem to line up pretty well, as far as drum roll intro, outro, length of time and guitar solos, etc. The archive version is a bit longer but has a longer intro of drums, but I guess that's just where the taper tracked it.
Nice sleuthing Subi. Anyone else??

i noticed the archive version being longer too. i think the RSD version fades out the end of the song early.
If anyone is still in need, this release is available through a few retailers via Amazon, starting around $15 + $3 shipping.

Great! Hadn't even occurred to me to look on Amazon. Ordered from my favorite record store in Boulder, thanks Johnny!
Picked up the one copy I found at Repo Records on South Street in Philly this afternoon while roaming around town after the Who concert last night.
I wasn't sure I would ever get the copy I ordered a couple of weeks back from across the pond at Spin CDs but, of course, it was waiting for me when I got home this evening.

Wow, truly inspiring. I love how much MMJ cares for the fans and people in general.
This is a FABULOUS pressing of some GRADE-A material. Clint's sax just blows me away, does that guy have pipes or what? He plays sax like he sings -- emotively and awesomely.
And that is SO COOL to learn that "Grab A Body" was recorded during the ISM sessions. I guess they just tacked the outro from this onto the end of IWSYS? Love hearing stories like that. But oh boy, this has just opened a whole new WORLD of possibilities as to what studio outtakes are in existence out there. I get VERY excited at the thought of a "MMJ Archives" release one day -- that's the stuff dreams are made of!
