Pretty stoked for this!
Me too!
When do tix go on sale? (sorry if it's somewhere on this website I can't find it)
3:00 pm EST through roll call.
Why does it have to be on a Monday?!?!?! A weekend date would make this a no brainer but a 2.5 hour drive one way makes things difficult.
Whoa, this is a pretty small room. It's gonna be intimate. Wish I could be there.
Wish I could make it here. As stated, Johnny Brenda's is quite the intimate venue. I'll be attempting the NYC show though.
So after all of my bitching and moaning my fiance just reminded me that we will already be in Philly for the Mumford show the day before. As long as I can score tickets we're going! Woohoo!
capacity *225*
hoping to do a happy hour in the downstairs bar for it.
HOME-COURT-ADVANTAGE
WOW, i couldn't even get one. Tried but sold out! :embarrassed:
Hopefully will have better luck for the public sale. Have to work when they go on sale though and will be trying to get one using my phone.
I logged in, went to Current tour, clicked the show, clicked "tickets" and it took me back to the log-in. This has happened about 30 times in the last 20 mins, anyone know what that's about?
Got a roll call ticket courtesy of Huervo. Can't wait for this show.
I was right on top of the Philly presale and clicked in microseconds after 3 PM EST and at least got a pick list for tix but then got the "sold out" sign after continuing. These Roll Call presales are a joke and I just unloaded on the McKittrick thread.
I'll try again for the Philly show in the public sale but here's a preemptive ask for one ticket (flying solo on this one) if I strike out again.
shit.
SOLD OUT!
Hit buy at exactly 12:00, and nothing! Was also on the phone with an operator less than 15 seconds after 12, and they were all gone.
WTF!!!!!!
Tiny venue = sold out fast. Crazy.
was on right at noon. nothing. small small venue, not surprised.

same experience for me at Bklyn.
12 on the dot and nothing. Not happy.
Struck out also despite being right there at noon. Makes the presale failure look even worse in retrospect, if that's possible.
Well pretty disappointed kept trying then around 1210 got 2 tickets in my cart and with that 3 min time limit for some reason would not let me get past delivery info and lost them. Why would he play at such a small venue.

It's a drag about everyone getting shut out, but, mark my words, there will be another Philly show in a bigger venue. These are just some warm up shows. There is no way this is the official Philly stop.

I agree, but would've really loved seeing Jim in such a small place. Granted, it's not the bar area of The Berkeley, but he didn't have a guitar with him then.

anyone see how there are already tickets on ebay going for 175 bucks a piece?
There is something really wrong with this.

I agree, and wonder how many were actually available for sale. Makes me wonder about the venue themselves having a fistful to do with as they please.
The $175.00 is cheap compared to the $300.00 tix now on Stubhub!
I was at Johnny Brenda's at about 11:15, the guy working the door said they only had 20 to sell, put my name on a list, and got 2 for me and my girl. He also said that Jim was actually holding "a bunch" so I'm expecting contests and/or giveaways. Best of luck to everyone!
Desperately seeking two (one for me and one for ericm) if anyone comes across extras. Very disappointed once again.
Same experience here...12:00 & bupkis. Bummed because Johnny Brenda's is a great venue. If anyone comes across an extra pair, please keep me in mind.
I think he's playing small rooms in Philly & NYC to test out his material. Hardcore fanbase in those cities so odds are the fans will still have a good time.
I think he'll come back around to both cities soon enough. Sellouts always bring on more dates.
I could see the TLA in Philly and Webster Hall in NYC.

I was trying for 30 minutes, praying/hoping. Long shot but if anyone has an extra ticket let me know? Thanks!

hopefully he'll come back and play there. JB's is very small. I've been there about 10 times for some indie bands. Very nice venue though!
Got shut out but I'll show up anyway.
Really sorry to see so many people got shut out. I managed to keep my students busy for five minutes and miraculously got in with no issues right at 9am PST. My school district must have a lucky internet connection. Best of luck to everyone!
Having just found out I can't go to any of the East Coast shows due to work travel, this looks like the only show I can make. APR and I will road trip up if some kind soul can put us on to some tix.
I have heard absolutely nothing yet as far as anyone getting rid of tickets. I've got my ears open for Eric but it doesn't seem promising. I'm holding out hope though.

Little concerned about this email I received today....a friend of mine who is a non-fan was helping me get tickets and we both ended up with a pair. Sold hers to some friends of mine who are huge fans, and now it appears as though this transfer of tix won't be able to happen. Anyone else going to run into the same issue?
Hello -
An important note from Johnny Brenda's:
In an effort to cut down on scalping, there will be no will call ticket swaps for Jim James on February 18. Also, the individual who purchased the will call tickets will need to be present with their ID, along with anyone for whom they bought tickets.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Ticketfly Customer Support. Please include your name and confirmation number with all correspondence.
Thank you!

anyone with an extra ticket to this one?
i just wanna take a second and vouch for Johnny Brenda's...I work very closely with the establishment both on the beer side of things, as a DJ (shameless plus, spinning there March 29!) and helping out with a show every now and again. No funny business here folks, place holds 250 people. They only had 20 tickets at the place itself, that's not even 10% of the whole joint! And when you think about it, JJ sold out Union Transfer which holds 1100 people in equally quick order. the strength of The Jacket in Philly is strong, they only average bigger crowds in NYC and L'Ville.
Food for thought...

1050 sellable, 50 comps = 1100 capacity. the venue is my #1 account for my dayjob and owned and operated by some of my closest friends. they can scale down to 600 but this show is the whole-shibang. sayin'

Looking for one ticket to the show--I have an extra spot in NYC at McKittrick I could trade
I live in Philly. If you have a ticket to spare, I can provide you a free place to stay and/or a fresh bottle of PLINY THE ELDER (bottled 1/25/2013).
Anyone hear if Roll Callers will get early entry?
FYI: From ground (ctrl), there will not be early entry for Roll Call members. I also talked to someone at the venue and their will call is basically "someone with a clipboard". As of now there will not be a separate line for will callers and those with physical tickets. She said this is a special show for them and a unique situation with how high the demand is. Because of that they may do things differently but for now, they will handle entry the same as other shows.
to the effect of this last post, there is genuinely no room for a line. you walk into a tiny hallway then up a tight flight of stairs. maybe a line could form outside but Feb 18 doesn't sound like an ideal time to be outside...one way in the venue, one way out of the venue

I've heard that 600 number more than a few times too,but also that it could hold up to 1,000 if they push the stage back. That would sound more like a DJ/ dance type show than a concert with a band on stage. Guess we'll find out when we get there.
trust me its 1100 for JJ. they only scale down to 600, not scale up to 1100.

Not saying I don't believe you, but why then would this be a part of a press release about the opening of the place?
Located just steps from Center City at 1004-26 Spring Garden Street in the former Spaghetti Warehouse location, the concept was developed by the all-star group to meet Philadelphia's need for a mid-sized live music venue. Union Transfer will accommodate 600, and up to 1,000 with the stage pushed back.
It sure sounds to me like 600 is the norm for a concert.
why the conspiracy theory? can we not accept as a fan base that JJ can sell that many tickets?

What conspiracy theory? It's got nothing to do with Jim's ability to sell that many tix. We all know he and MMJ are very popular in Philly, and he could probably sell more than 1,000 tix. Just trying to clear up two very different takes on the venues capacity.

I don't think anyone has said that at all. Just trying to figure out why some places say UT holds 600, and others say 1,000-1,100, while some say both depending on the stage setup.
I'm sure most of us would rather the lower number, but I don't think any of us expect it to be. Hoping yes, expecting no.
I've been to many shows at Union Transfer, and I don't think there's any realistic way they move the stage up for this show. Only once have I seen the stage moved up, and that show was way undersold. They would be foregoing about $15,000 in ticket sales and lots of valuable real estate for concertgoers at a sold out show.
Regardless of how you interpret a press release from before the venue opened, in practice, the stage is back in its normal position for almost all concerts, and the venue holds 1100 when it is.
The place is much better when the stage is back anyway, in my opinion. The above google street view / walkthrough shows the stage back in its normal place. When its moved forward, the stage comes right up to the side viewing areas.

Johnny Brenda's is in the heart of the Fishtown section of Philly...very hip part of town. Think of Fishtown as similar to Williamsburg Brooklyn. Its all street parking, and generally safe. JB's is on the corner of Frankford & Girard. You can most certainly find parking very easily. There are a ton of bars near by, so lots of foot traffic. The food there is very very good. I would suggest the burger, falafel or the octopus salad if its offered. All beer is on draft, and sourced from 90 miles or closer. Another bonus: tomorrow night is Birdie Bushes' super chill dj night downstairs and she plays country/honky tonk/blues records. There is no cover downstairs, a pool table, lots of seating. The venue is upstairs, no food served in the show room...taps mirror the downstairs.
Other establishments of note near by there are Fette Sau (gourmet bbq), Bubbas (more traditional bbq), Frankford Hall (german style beer hall + crazy sausages), Barcade (80's video games and killer beer), E.G.G. (seafood leaning pub), Murphs (dive bar), and a host of others.
Frankford Hall is a great spot to day drink with some people and liters of beer. What time is everyone getting the the venue? I'm thinking about heading over after work around 5:30 and just eating/drinking then heading up.
long shot, but anyone with an extra ticket? :undecided:
Floor is def the way to go at JB's.
Sound is not as good up in the balcony.
can somebody please report back if there is a poster? need to plan accordingly for tomorrow's BK show. ;)
Lets set some odds for tonight, I'm curious on people's take:
Chances JJ plays 100% solo: 3 to 1
Chances JJ has a band: 2 to 1
Chances JJ has a member of MMJ join him: 12 to 1
Chances JJ does a MMJ song(s): 3 to 2
Chances JJ's omnichord gets plated: 4 to 1

1) about right, but probably should be a little higher to encourage plays on both ends. 5-1
2) should be even money ( I think he has one)
3) about right ( if I had to guess, I go with Patrick being the member)
4) A bookie would give much shorter odds,as they'll be paying out on this bet,IMO. Kinda like what Secretariat paid when winning the Belmont. I believe the winning two dollar wager was $2.10
5) I'd take that bet with those odds. Not sure we'll hear it, but worth the wager.

Define "band." One or more people that are not JJ performing on stage at any point? If so, I would like to place $75 on #1, and $100 on #2.

Chances JJ does a MMJ song(s): 3 to 2
Chances JJ's omnichord gets plated: 4 to 1
Define "band." One or more people that are not JJ performing on stage at any point? If so, I would like to place $75 on #1, and $100 on #2.

I haven't ran across such a sure thing as this since.......well last Thursday doesn't really count, does it?

Lets set some odds for tonight, I'm curious on people's take:
Chances JJ plays 100% solo: 3 to 1
Chances JJ has a band: 2 to 1
Chances JJ has a member of MMJ join him: 12 to 1
Chances JJ does a MMJ song(s): 3 to 2

I think he will have his band, and play some mmj songs, but I don't think anyone else from MMJ will be joining him.
That being said, I hope everyone has a great time at the show tonight and would love to see a poster posted on here tomorrow.

Last Thursday was the show for WFPK members.
Also, have fun!
UPDATE:
Just spoke to the talent buyer at JB's and tonight is gonna be early. Doors at 8, JJ at 9. 75 Minute set scheduled, but "he has our stage as long as he wants it".
I wish i was going
Have fun everyone!
Everyone have fun! We will be awaiting some reports of the show!

Have fun peeps can't wait to hear all about it!!
one of my friends, on here, 63schoefflin, sent me a pic of the set list
Jim should be coming on right about now.
Everyone there have a GREAT time and I hope he treats you to a nice long show.

not sure how he got the set list.
Honestly, I'm fully expecting to hear the entire Regions album, and I'm perfectly fine with that, but I hope the second portion of the show gets mixed up more.
Would love to hear some more obscure type MMJ songs or covers rather than the staples from all the MMJ ive been to.
Same setlist as the Nashville show, except he cut a couple of the encore songs there I think. Wonderful was wedged in there too.
encore bums me out a little.... but don't mean to sound like a debbie downer, I'm sure it's gonna be FANTASTIC.
I think he will mix it up as the tour gets going.
Poster??
Fabulous show, I enjoyed the shit out of it...songs represent much better live IMO. Really special, intimate vibe in there, I tried to soak up every second. Wonderful to open the encore, Day is Coming was cut. I know people are hoping for some acoustic rarities in the encores (guilty as well), but this encore was one big awesome dance party.
I snagged a video of 'It Beats For You' from the front row- we were almost a little too close so not the best, but still gives you a pretty good idea:

Merch was nothing more than the vinyl, a tote bag with the vinyl image, and an autographed handbill with the vinyl image (unless I missed something).
Thanks for borrowing the setlist pic Dave....it actually vaired a little bit as he switched it up. I was lucky enough to get the final setlist, not the one pictured. I'll have to figure out how to upload that bad boy.
The show was absolutely fantastic and I still can't believe I was that close. Awesome, awesome time...get out to Union Transfer if you can everyone.
As mentioned before, no poster but they were selling the little Jim key chains for $20. Yes the encore wasn't anything unpredictable but the solo album was great live. There was a part during the encore where the bassist was having trouble with her guitar but aside from that snafu they sounded great. It felt strange seeing him play all those MMJ numbers without the rest of they guys there with him. I hope when the proper tour begins there is less MMJ in the encore. Overall a great show though, very glad to have been a part of last night.
Really enjoyed the show last night. The new album is so good live, and definitely has that dance vibe that Jiim was looking for IMO. I wish there was a little more room for that last night, but seeing Jim in such a small place was worth the tradeoff.
I got to meet up with APR,and his brother in law pre show in the tavern downstairs for some food, drink, and nice conversation. Had a real good time hanging with them, and once again got to enjoy the company of more really cool, and great people from this forum. Always fun times thanks to this place. Even when going to a show solo, you're never alone! Looking forward to meeting up with you again Adam at Union Transfer.
I thought the band was pretty tight for only their third gig, and thought the drummer laying down some leads on electric while Jim was on accoustic was a real treat. The way he pounded the drums all night, but then laid down some sweet licks for one tune was quite the contrast, and friggin awesome!
The place was real tiny, and packed as was expected. I snagged a spot on the rail of the balcony, and had a real nice view. With the stage raised a few feet, the balcony literally felt right on top of them. Different perspective than other shows, but I enjoyed the change. I really got a kick out of how tiny the stage was, and watching Jim get down in all of about 25 square feet of open floor space. He sure made the most of at most a five by five area!!
Can't wait to see the show again tomorrow night, and then again at Union Transfer! I think I'll start looking for a Webster Hall ticket too! Figured that would be the case after seeing this show.
such a great time last night. I wasn't the biggest fan of the new album but last night changed that for me. completely new prospective on the album. i thought the main set was better then encore. my highlights were: AEIOU, Dear One, Of the Mother Again, Actress and Know Til Now.
new band is very tight for only playing a couple gigs together. the drummer is a beast. and i loved what the bass player was doing during Wordless.
can't wait for the UT show.

Sorry we didn't get to meet you last night Eric. We will meet up for the UT show for sure man. Glad to hear you had as good a time as me!
Same here Angelo. Glad you enjoyed it too. By the time we went got in, (about 8:20) the place was packed. The tavern wasn't much better earlier, and kind of hard to have much of a get together there, and meet people.
I'll definitely make a point of meeting you before the UT show for sure. Even if I have to shout your name out a couple of times in the bar or wherever the meetup is. I'll be sure and let you know where I'll be before the show.
Wow, it seems like the live shows are really converting people. i can't wait till tonight.
But what's up with tote bags!!? Is that the new hipster accessory?
eric--YES get a ticket for webster hall!
Having been lucky enough to score a ticket on the day of the show, I felt very lucky to be there. It was quite a show. Despite having not listened to the album much prior to the show, I really dug the live renditions.
If Ed, my miracle worker, is on the boards... thank you.
And the MMJ songs were dope. Sure, it was weird to see someone other than Tom throwing down on "It Beats 4 You", but it was special to hear those songs in such an intimate spot.

Wish I was back east for these shows! Thanks for the reports. I bet JJ will continue to play the album front to back as it should be heard through the tour. MOF blew me away how great the album sounded live, no doubt this album live is it's strongest listen. Watching JJ and friends get down can't hurt  Cannot wait to hear all the sorted details from Sleep No More Thursday. Have fun tonight in Brooklyn! I need to get a JJ keychain, the tote not so much!

I don't know about where you are all from, but up here in Ontario, plastic bags at the grocery store $.05 each in an effort to remove as many from our garbage stream as possible, so having a mighty collection of tote bags is useful. Bonus points if all your totes are cool!
OK, I only give out bonus points personally. Nobody cares what's on the totes.
I'm using the JJ tote to care my latest knitting project.
Found this video of Actress from last night. It's not the greatest audio, but you get a good idea of how small the stage was. It looks to be taken from the front center of the balcony. My vantage spot was a little to the right of this.

Here's hoping a couple more turn up.
It was a great show. I don't think I have ever seen five musicians with a full drum kit on such a small stage. The venue was crowded as well, but there was plenty of personal space. The crowd was very respectful the entire night even during the quieter moments except one or two random screams.
I was most looking forward to hearing the new album. And that was great. But despite the "generic" encore setlist, it was incredibly fun and it rocked. The crowd got way more into it, which helped too. That stretch was a highlight..... no Debbie Downer moments with those tunes even if you just heard them in December.
It was so strange to see a different band behind Jim play those songs and have them sound pretty much exactly like MMJ. Some key differences..... Jim rarely played an instrument and sang with his eyes open pretty much the entire time.
They came on a few minutes after 9:00 and played until about 10:45. The merch was all of the different stuff that came with the deluxe Regions Of Light package. The litho was signed but not numbered.
It was great to hang with ericm and my brother in law (first time seeing JJ or MMJ) pre show for a good, leisurely dinner. Eric, have fun in NYC tomorrow, and I look forward to talking music with you again in the near future.

totally agree with you on this one. In reality, I suppose it's more of a case of me having certain expectations of what the tour was going to be like. I was really hoping for a nice mix of JJ solo acoustic busting out some of the older classic acoustic tunes. Still very much excited to see the fillmore show, and it's great to hear all the positive reviews!
I was waiting to hear from roll call friends to describe how the show was last night. In Nashville at the basement, it was such a small inimate show, yet Jim, Carl and the rest of the band really rocked it.
I told my friends after buying his album to just sit and listen to it and imagine hearing it live - cause hearing him live is so awesome. I love the album by itself, but on stage the songs were so much more alive.
Glad everyone seemed to have a great time. How can you not when Jim is standing in front of you singing?

I'm feeling like these first few February shows are just warm ups for the main tour. Meaning that once the main tour gets going you will see a more expanded encore. Maybe even a second set + encore? Like when Roger Waters did Dark Side of the Moon a few years back. He played a full set of random floyd/solo songs and then did the full album. Or is this just wishful thinking?
I doubt the band is going to learn a ton of MMJ songs so I wouldn't get hopes up for rare songs. Jim said they're still working out the kinks since it was only their third show. Who knows though. With a few months and rehearsals maybe they will learn some new stuff. They seemed to have all the songs last night down pat.
For those Dr. Dog fans, Jim said that he got obsessed with some track or riff they did that was never released. He put it on a loop and listened it so much and loved it so much that he sampled for one of the Regions of Light songs and wrote that song around it. Can't remember which song. He added that Dr. Dog are from Philly and one of the best bands in the world. The place cheered for that.
I wasn't expecting his new band to learn a bunch of MMJ tunes, just sort of expected JJ to play a few tunes, solo acoustic.
Jim has said all along that he wanted these shows to be a dance party, so I really doubt he's going to pull out any rarities. These aren't MMJ shows and I get the distinct feeling that he wants them to be very different than MMJ shows.

I think there's a good chance the shows will expand a little bit as the tour progresses, and they're playing bigger venues. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see some of those types of tunes get played, and I'm with you guys on hoping it happens.
