I'm glad to see you are coming up to Louisville for the April 17th show! When I read your last post, I was going to offer you one of my tickets, if the show were already sold out (I got 2 during the Roll Call pre-sale and another ticket during the Kentucky Center e Club pre-sale on Thursday. From what e_wind posted earlier this morning, there ARE still tickets to be had for this show. We need it to sell out! Fill up the place! Fill every seat at every venue for this tour!
Mighty nice of you to think of me  I look forward to meeting you in person. After what we got last night, you are in for a real treat!
ok, so i bought 2 tix through roll call, then another through the Brown Theatre website.
the one i bought through the Brown is at will call, and i can pick it up at any time.
but the two i bought through the fan club won't be available to pick up until "about an hour before the show," according to a Brown ticketing employee i just spoke with.
so, does this mean we fan clubbers are doomed to settle for whatever crappy seats are left after the general public storms the venue as we wait in the will call line for our tickets?
seems horribly unfair. gotta be a better plan in place, why tf did we buy fan club tickets if it means we get the worst seats?

in theory, the Roll Call line should go in first..no matter if you have your tix or are getting them from Will Call..
in actuality, it'll depend on communication (with) and the venue..
if you're there and you see it happening, i would kick up a shitstorm (a very quiet respectful one albeit) and explain to the venue that this line should go in first no matter what ..that's my advice..unfortunately, this has been the problem at many venues

appreciate the advice. i'm not the shitstorm type, but a couple of the people i'm going with would probably love the opportunity to create some drama if necessary.
such a small venue, every seat is really pretty good, it's just that the experience in nashville was so awesome that we desperately want to be as close as possible.....but then again, doesn't everybody?

If we had been any closer in Nashville, Jim would have had to have gone to the proctologist to remove us.
After being shut out of the E Coast shows because of work travel I just found out today I'm going to Louisville on the the 17th.
This proves there is a God.
No, wait, I just found out the show is sold out.
Does someone have a single??
Please. The fate of Gods' Man depends upon it.

I might be able to get 1 ticket for you...It just depends on if who I mentioned the show to can go or not. I will keep you in mind...Also, I am in the same shape as many other fan club members of having to get my tickets at the Will Call window...We will see...Just keep trying for another ticket, and I will let you know one way or another when I find out.
Thanks.
Just PM me if the ticket frees up.

That is outstanding news! You will get in.
Hey, it's been 8 days since I got down on my knees and begged.
Is there really no single out there for this show?
I will not sing you songs but I will buy you beers.
Hey man, I can't be positive but it looks like I may end up with 4 instead of 2 to this. Ill find out and let you know
Even though I can't get you tickets, you can still buy me beers

I already sent GO4IT a PM about this. He WILL be going! (Maybe he can hold us a place in line while I pick up the Will Call tickets. Is this cool? Does that count as annoying concert behavior? Seriously, I don't want others mad about this. I have just never had to pick up tickets at the window right before the show starts.)
THANK YOU Mr. White!!!
Beers coming
I never had any doubt that some fine forum member would come through.
Re. waiting on line, I'm up for whatever will get us up front although I do have some constraints from a meeting in town so we'll figure that out closer to the date.
If they give roll call members a preference on entry, as they should, especially in Louisville you would think, then the will call will not be a problem. We need to make sure that the powers that be get the message about roll call entry BEFORE the show.
Woo Hooo!!! :cheesy:

Thanks to ewind (and Tracy for letting me stay at her place) it looks like I'll be going to this too! :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: Can't wait to see you all again!
Wow, this is so great, wish I was gonna be there! Yeah, I suppose I'd like to see all the rest of you people too.
Next time Crispy! And then I'll bring you some Swedish nötcréme, which contains 20% hazelnuts! Not sure if that's more or less than Nutella, but it feels like it would be more.
Woohoo! 20% is a number I can get behind, whereas Nutella's "48 hazelnuts" is arbitrary and meaningless. Ooh, bring some Dumle too!
Hahaha, I most definitely will. It'll be a big Nötcréme-Dumle-party!
Sara, do you realize how much fun we are gonna have?!

And, Tube top, I'll be out in LA the last weekend in June so let me know if there's anything going on in town then
Have you heard of LA Ale Works: http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-brewers-launch-new-los-angeles-craft-beer-company-20130301,0,3942861.story (http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-brewers-launch-new-los-angeles-craft-beer-company-20130301,0,3942861.story)
John Rockwell is my niece's husband and he and his partner look like they're going to make it into the LA microbrew scene. They just concluded a really successful Kickstarter campaign. Bummer I can't go to their events but you can.

So do roll callers get their will call tix in the first entry line or do we have to pick them up at the box office first?
Just stopped by the Brown. They are pretty well set up already and are testing the sound. Didn't see Jim

Any Jim Posters? Shirts? Prices?
Cold Specs was a good opener.
JJ and crew were on tonight (OK when are they not). And we were on our feet the whole time.
After the album a great encore. Jim alone on the first two:
Bermuda Highway
Wonderful
Dear God
Changing World
Right Place
Loosin My Head
His Masters Voice
Jim remembered the victims in Boston with a moment of silence and some nice words to put it in context. I think that came after Wonderful.
Great night and great seeing everyone.

Interesting Encore. I'm glad to see some MoF, especially Dear God, since it fits with the new album. Wish it had a little more MMJ weight on it though. Glad to see the encore was a lengthy one either way. Think it will change much between shows?

WOW I couldn't be happier with that encore. I hope he doesn't change it up at all. I saw someone else wish it was a bit more MMJ-ish, but I'd much prefer the listed songs to hearing Wordless Chorus and Touch Me II again and again. If that's the encore in Boston I'll be thrilled.

It was a perfect encore. I liked hearing these songs with this band way better than I liked hearing them play Jacket songs without Jacket. Also, how often do you get to hear all of these MOF songs? The whole show was great! Funniest moment was when the girl down from us started singing badly and loudly Carl's pedal steel part on Wonderful. So great seeing everyone!

I want to third this opinion. This is exactly the encore I want to see in Philly. I wouldn't mind a song or two off "Tribute To" either but I would have nothing to complain about if this is the encore we get!
it was a great encore... and lonnnggg. it seemed like a couple songs were extended. maybe Dear God and His Masters Voice, i dont know
The lights for this show work well with the sound and feel of his stage persona he's putting out for this album. A little seventies soul singer with a side hustle in preaching. Also, he's lost more weight. His pants were too big on him last night. That boy's getting skinny.

Oh my gosh!!! From looking at the great pictures, and what everyone has to say and...the encore??? I can only hope I get to here Dear God and or His Master's Voice.
I'm even more excited now for tomrorrow in Milwaukee and Saturday in Chicago. :cheesy:
I don't have anything against the encore. I think it looks fantastic, but I'd rather hear another MMJ song over Right Place, which is one of the lesser tunes on MoF's album (I personally like Magic Marker more than Right Place). His Master's Voice, Losin' Yo Head, and Dear God are very neat. Perhaps I'd like to hear another MMJ song simply because I've only seen them perform twice, and I am in dire need of more MMJ.
When Jim first announced Regions of Light, I thought it would sound like Dear God and The Day Is Coming had a baby, so it is interesting to see Dear God show up on the set.
Thanks for the reports and pictures everyone!
I would love to hear some of these songs for the encore in Nashville on 5/2. I've never seen Jim perform any MoF songs I'm excited for more diversity after seeing RoLaSoG & MMJ live already this year.

I will be . I wasn't obsessed until last summer when I saw them at Forecastle, so I am a bit behind. I was going to watch them in Columbus last August, but it didn't make sense buying the ticket and paying for tuition/books all at once. Before then, I'd only see them if they came to Indiana, but they've only been here once. Now, I'll easily see them in border states no question and whenever it makes sense to travel. Either way, they aren't touring this year it seems, so I am out of luck.
Still couldn't be more excited to see him next week.

100% agree.
If Boston gets even a few of those encore songs I will be elated. I can't friggin' wait!
The Monsters of folk tunes were definitely the highlight for me, and I also noticed that a bunch of people in the crowd Didnt know the right place or losin' your head...those were definitely my favorite parts of the show, so glad those songs resurfaced
I got a couple of clips I'll post in a bit but here's Losin Yo head :cheesy:

I know that this is opinionated, but WHAT
The Right Place is definitely in my top 3 MoF songs, along with Ahead of the Curve and I can't pick another to say definitely
Right Place and Whole Lotta Losin' are probably somewhere near my bottom 2 on that album. I enjoy the tunes with a little less country twang more.
Ahead of the Curve, Temazcal, Sandman, Losin' Yo Head, His Master's voice, etc.

Jim James Jams Out The End Of Losin' Yo Head
Jim James - Losin' Yo Head (ending jam) - The Brown Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky on 4/17/2013 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G37P5qWL6zY#ws)
I was leaning on the stage from the front row and couldn't pass up the opportunity to record Jim jamming out right over me. The sound isn't terrible, but it isn't the best either. I still think it's pretty cool.
Thanks Mr. White!
I'm still blown away at how great a show this was.
First the amazing live version of the album.
Then JJ's beautiful solo acoustic MMJ numbers.
And then a flashback to the great MOF live shows of a few years ago.
You guys on deck are in for a real treat if the other shows are anywhere close to this one.
Enjoy!!!
I'll be on hold until the last show at Newport
Thank you!!!! I heard myself start laughing when she stopped herself the last time.
Thanks for sharing those vids Mr. White! Can't wait for this Tuesday!

Agreed! What a great review! Awesome to hear how well the album translates live! But then again, this was to be expected when we're talking about Jim James right?
I'm going to share that vid with my kids who love both of those songs.
I've got butterflies now thinking about the Toronto show coming up!
Squee!

The audio on this video is a little better. I think you can pick out the "funniest moment".
Jim James - Bermuda Highway and Wonderful - The Brown Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky on 4/17/2013 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAFrCcHieqY#ws)
I was smiling the entire time I watched this video. Wonderful was amazing!
Who was in the band? Sounds like Carl made an appearance.
Can't wait until Asheville... :drum:

Carl wasn't there.
Dan Dorff -keyboards
Dave Givan - drums
Kevin Ratterman - guitar, synth
I don't remember the bass player's name. If you look around the forum, you can find it.

Great review Sara!!!!
That show will stay with me for some time - really amazing. I'm so glad it was taped.
Thanks guys, glad you like it!
That was just a Louisville thing Squallis Puppeteers- Jim has a relationship with them. I'm not trying to imply it's sexual, but anything's possible...puppet sex.
There were people inside inside. you could see them get out afterwards.

Yeah, I know. I was trying to reference Jim's comments during the Bonnaroo 2005 show without going back to listen to it for the exact quote. (I wasn't there. I have the download.) I think Jim was actually referring to the band's every move being controlled by pocket-control devices by Dr. Frederick von Guggenheim (as well as the puppets).
Here is a different reference I just found from an article in American Songwriter.
"The first time I saw My Morning Jacket, they were playing an afternoon set at Bonnaroo. It was June 2005, several months before Z's release, and the guys were just beginning to combine their heartland rock & roll with the spacey, oddball trippiness that came to fruition with 2008's Evil Urges. For a first-time listener, the combination was a little confusing.
During the beginning of the set, Jim James introduced "Dr. Frederick von Guggenheim," a man dressed up in a coattailed tuxedo and powdered white wig who went on to "conduct" the entire show. A group of oversized puppets joined Dr. Guggenheim after each song, shuffling onto the stage one-by-one and remaining there until the encore. First up was the giant giraffe with an overbite... then the larger-than-life George Washington... then the cockroach. As My Morning Jacket rocked, the puppets danced and the doctor conducted. I didn't know whether to focus on Jim James' high-lonesome drawl or George Washington's paper-mache ascot.
my first MMJ show--the memories...
