Thought I would bump this thread seeing as how we are only 6 days out for this show!

EC, Mr. and Mrs. Beer will be in attendance for this show.  Anyone else?  Robb, are you making the trip down from Michigan?

My wife teaches and we won't be getting into C'bus until around 5:30 or so. Still plenty of time to grab a few beers and some grub before the doors open.  Any thoughts on where to possibly meet up?  My wife and I usually hit up Elevator Brewery (http://www.elevatorbrewing.com/) when we go to shows in C'bus.  Good beer and good food.  It's about 2 miles south of the Newport on High St close to the Arena District.  This is probably where we'll be so if anyone wants to join us feel free!

I'm picking up a buddy of mine after his class around 3:30 and then I have a 3 hour drive there.  Unfortunately, I am 20, and I hear that beer is illegal in these parts for a man of my age.

Glad to see some more forum goers are in attendance.  I can't wait for this show!

Dream Encore (That is relatively realistic):

Bermuda Highway (Jim Solo)
Wonderful (Jim Solo)
Dear God
Evil Urges
Lowdown
Loosin' Yo Head
Anytime

Dream Encore (That won't happen):

Bermuda Highway (Jim Solo)
IWBTWYD (Jim Solo)
Dear God
Evil Urges
Lowdown
War Begun
Steam Engine

I really want Evil Urges to happen in support of equality

Anyone know how the Newport Music Hall venue is laid out?  If the doors open at 7, what time do you think I should be there to get a good spot?

Last time I was at the Newport it was about 4 years ago seeing Dark Star Orchestra  (before John moved on to Furthur).  We partook in some kind before the show and chose to hang out on the rail of the balcony on the right hand side as the floor was pretty packed and I just wanted to chill and take in the music.

I'm also not one to care about getting on the rail so I couldn't help you as to how early you'd need to get there.

Ground control came through! They added me to the list, and I will receive my laminate upon entry.  Good stuff!

The email I got was this:

"your name will be at the Will Call location and they will deliver a new laminate there. The laminate will be good to get you into First Entry for this show and subsequent First Entry opportunities. "

Did they mean Roll Call location? And where exactly is that? I'm assuming it is at the front entrance of the newport music hall.

Thanks for the help!

Yes-most likely it's the same window...every venue is different so you'll have to find out when you get there (Newport isn't that big)

Will Call is the window at the Box Office where you pick up your tix that have already been paid for, and just need to be picked up the day of a show. It is NOT the same thing as Roll Call or the line where Roll Call meets for early entry. Some bigger venues have a few ticket sales windows, and separate windows for Will Call.  Others it's the same window. Either way, just make sure you have id, and you're good.

I've never been to this venue, but I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding the box office or the Will Call window. They'll most likely be other Roll Callers picking up their tix there as well.

Not sure what the ticket situation is like and whether its close to selling out or not.  It's probably whether you'd prefer to be safe, grab them online and get the printout version, or pick up the real ticket at the show.

See you all there!

I'll be heading out and away from my computer after 1, but I'll probably be at the Newport a little after 6.  Figure I'll be in the Roll Call line from that point.  I'd bought an extra ticket for a friend, but they couldn't make the trip.  If you need a ticket, I'll sell it for $25.  Just thought I'd put that out there.

Just got back home, the show was ridiculous.

I got the setlist!

The rail was loads of fun.  I met a cool couple behind me who were huge fans of MMJ and various other bands.  After the Cold Specks set, I helped the guy hold his girlfriend's spot while she went to the bathroom.  I had mentioned to him that I was thirsty during this time, so he immediately texted his girlfriend to grab me a bottle of water.  I tried to pay them back, but they refused.  I know it was just a bottle of water, but water can be expensive at concert venues.  Regardless, it was a nice sentiment.  During the show, I had a blast rocking out to some of the tunes with the couple and my friend.  We all got to "E.T." Jim James and we sang our faces off to Monsters of Folk covers.  After the show they started handing out setlists to the crowd, per usual.  I was lucky enough to have the roadie hand me the first one.  After that, I noticed the girl really wanted a setlist, so we all tried really hard for the roadies to hand her one as well, but we weren't so lucky.  I felt bad about selfishly keeping the setlist, so I was super glad when the roadie came back with the drum sticks from the show.  He tossed them out to the crowd, and I managed to catch one.  I happily handed it over to the girl, and her face lit up immediately.  As we were walking out, the couple thanked me again for the help.

Moral of this story is this:
My  first experience with the roll call family was excellent.  Roll Call members are fucking awesome!

NOTE: Jim also played Wonderful at the beginning of the encore (Highlight of the show for me.  Such a beautiful song.)

Btw, All is Forgiven's jam section is ridiculous.

You're alright Fully, shit happens sometimes. No hard feelings. Perhaps neither of us were at our best. I definitely agree with it being magical, great stuff.

Penny, that stament is 100% true. Everyone I talked to last night were super nice. Its nice to be able to actually talk to people who care for the band as much as I do.

Thanks all!

Well, one thing for sure is I'm feeling my age this morning.

We usually like to get a hotel to stay in for shows in C'bus but my wife couldn't get out of work this morning.  The 90+ drive from my house to C'bus is long as it is, but even longer driving home starting at almost 12 am?!  At least we didn't have that 3 hour drive you did EC!   :cheesy:

So, I somehow managed to roll out of bed long enough to get my kids off to school and then it was back to bed for me until now as I'm downing my first of many cups of joe today or maybe I should just make a nice bloody mary and be done with it!

As for the show, all I can say was Jim was amazing and his band was equally amazing!  I'd been hearing how well this album translates live from reviews of the many forum peeps who have already experienced this tour and all I can say is I completely concur 100% about that with Givan on drums and Ratterman's multi tasking REALLY standing out!  There were some outstanding jams (as EC mentioned above) that really took some of these songs to an entirely new level!  Oh, and the light show didn't suck either.  Especially with some herbal enhancement...

You're cracking me up over here.

How close did you manage to get? I was on the rail center-right.

I didn't get home until nearly 4 in the morning because I stopped at Steak & Shake on the way back with a buddy of mine.  I woke up a little before noon with my ears still ringing.  Wonderful night!

And yes, Givan was fucking pounding those drums!

Steak and Shake...  mmmmmmm!  There's one on our way home but it was closed by the time we went by.  Should have stopped at the one in Polaris!

We were up on the rail of the balcony on the right facing the stage about halfway to the front.  The floor was only about 1/4 full when we got there but my wife is a bit vertically challenged so we opted for finding a spot on the balcony!  Congrats on getting the high finger with Jim.  I got one in Detroit last summer and my girls asked me this morning if I got to give Jim another high finger but I had to break it to them that we were too far away last night...

Glad you enjoyed your experience on the rail and Penny is right, MMJ fans are great fans!

Sounds like you two still got a pretty solid spot!

He kept teasing us with the high finger at first; he would reach out to us and then pull back, it was hilarious.

A guy next to me wanted to get his Regions album signed, so during the show Jim actually took it and raised it up and shrugged his shoulders jokingly insinuating that he had no idea what this Region of Light vinyl was.  Jim then proceeded to lay it down on the stage and continue singing.  After a few songs, he picked it back up, signed it, and then handed it back to the kid.  Jim wrote YEAH! in huge letters with his signature below it, super cool.  Also, there was a guy on the opposite side of the rail that had what looked to be a Circuital vinyl at first, but after Jim picked it up, my friend noticed it was a canvas with the Circuital eye painted on the front.  Jim gestured towards the guy, wondering what he wanted Jim to do with it.  The guy motioned back to keep it as a gift.  Jim held it up to the crowd after that, and then laid it down next to his towels and bear.

I too thought it was a vinyl copy of Circuital and wondered why Jim signed the one album but kept the other.  Hearing it was a painting and was intended as a gift makes sense.
