5 weeks from today is the Jim solo show in Milwaukee! I can't wait - especially after seeing him in Nashville. And the video for State of the Art from sleep no more is absolutely one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Jim's Flying V is there for a reason..............
Who is going?
Anyone going?
I'm in !!! Can't wait!!!
I'm in!!!! I have to work until 5pm and I'm hoping the traffic from Chicago to Milwaukee isn't too bad Friday Night (it will be by Ohare I know! lol)

I'm a little concerned though.. a friend of mine got their tickets in the Public sale..and has her physical tickets. I got mine in the Roll Call Pre-Sale ..and mine are Will-Call...and I haven't seen any information for the Will-Call for this show...or maybe I did and I forgot.
I got will call through Roll Call as well. Hoping it is a relatively smooth process. Saw Jim will be at the Exclusive Company on Thursday for some signing, if I was in the area I'd go.

typical.
I always go under the dashboard and print out the confirmation---because in the emails you get sent (IF THEY ACTUALLY GET SENT BY GC) don't contain the exact show info, just a number.

I think there is construction going on, but usually it's a pretty good ride up there. Anyone up for going to Mo's Irish pub prior to the show? Or does anyone have any ideas?
Looking forward to this show 10x more than the Vic, just based on the venue alone! Pabst + JJ is gonna be heavenly!
Quick FYI for all you peeps, wish I could attend, but the Excluisve Company Record Store in Milwaukee is holding a meet anf greet with Jim on Thursday night at 6pm
The Exclusive Company is kicking off its Record Store Day celebration a little early this year with a special in-store appearance...
The Exclusive Company is excited to announce an in-store appearance/signing with JIM JAMES, of My Morning Jacket, on April 18 at 6 pm!
Touring in support of his solo album, "Regions of Light and Sound of God," Jim James will be performing at The Pabst Theater on April 19th.
"Regions of Light and Sound of God" is available NOW at ALL Exclusive Company locations on CD and LP!

I've seen other shows at the Pabst (Gaelic Storm) and they've always been great shows. You are probably right, and I have never been to the Vic yet.
When I saw MMJ back in june 2011, which I think was at the Riverside, Jim was very thankful for the folks in Milwaukee and said they treat the band well.!!!
Still no thought on pre show drinkies?
Riverside is an awesome venue too. I'm not sure what to expect on Friday crowd-wise, it's not sold-out yet (looks like far from it) and when MMJ played in Milwaukee last summer at the new summerfest grounds pavilion, the place was more than half empty.
Not sure that I will be up in time from Chicago for any extensive pre-show drinks, but Mo's is always a good pre and post option.
If I don't win entry to the XRT-Live from Studio X performance, I will definitely be down for some pre-show drinks at Matilda's in Chicago though.
I am in, and I am looking forward to it after what will be a long week. Plus, I love that the Pabst sells big beers at an affordable cost. Apparently the Milwaukee Ale House is providing some sort of beer from a bourbon-aged keg to add a little extra sh*ts and giggles to what will be a great night.

Thanks for the heads up on the construction. I will check the boards and see what everyone is doing pre-show. Hopefully I can get up there in time to meet up, I'm just hoping I can make the show on time, lol.

When I saw MMJ at the Riverside 2 summers ago, it was packed and that's where Jim thanked the people of Milwaukee and their hospitality.
the Pabst is super cool and more people should take advantage of the show there. I myself have never been to the Vic so that will be new for me.
Hoping to get there around 6:00ish for pre show drinks
I received an email from the Pabst today with day of show info:

It also refers to the pre-show keg tapping at 7:30 of the bourbon barrel aged amber that bcdoc mentioned.

Thanks for the info, Sue. This was interesting...
"Per Jim James's management:
No professional cameras or recording devices please."
So...it looks like the place to go should be the Milwaukee brewery? with a pre show keg tapping? Right up Milwaukee's alley so to speak. The poster looks super cool. But I also hear rumors about early entry. So who ever has the latest, let me know. I did not get a email from the Pabst, which is odd since I usually do.
Just super happy the shows are finally here!

Interesting encore. Good to see it being mixed up, but I agree about Bermuda. Hoping that means he plays it tomorrow night at the vic! That's one song I have heard live yet and it was the first song I ever heard by them!

I'd die if I saw Bermuda live, I still haven't gotten the chance to do so. I would really enjoy Wonderful too, as it is probably my favorite song from Circuital and it is the only Circuital song I haven't seen live.
Thank You Too would go really well with the overall sound of the new album as well; I wouldn't be opposed to hearing that as an encore.
Perhaps Jim will play a different MMJ song every show?

With my luck he will play Look at You solo!
Nothing against the song but I think it's not very common and in 4 shows I've heard it twice ha. Same with Honest Man, pretty rare song that I've heard 2 shows in a row from 2 different tours no less

Haha I'd freak out if he played that. My White Whale list in no order are these:
Strangulation
Lay Low
War Begun
Thank You Too
Look At You
Touch Pt. 1
Evil Urges
They Ran
IWBTWYD
Bermuda Hwy
O is the One
Those are probably the biggest ones for me atm
I would be disappointed if he played HotBM, or Day is Coming and no other MMJ song, since I've seen those two plenty.

Not a bad white whale list at all!
Makes it even better since someone coming here looking for a setlist might skim and see that list thinking it was from milwaukee and freak out haha
Yup.
Now, Movin' Away was originally written as part of the score for Gods Man, along with TDIC, so - while not a favorite of mine- I see its inclusion making perfect sense.
So, aside from the setlist, how was the show?
I thought the show was amazing. The album sounded awesome live. Cool lighting behind he band. I was expecting (& would have preferred) more MMJ songs in the encore. Moving Away was acoustic. MOF songs sounded great too.
How long was the show? Judging by the setlist I'd guess about an hour and a half to an hour and 45?
Show was great! I really think the album comes off way better live. A lot of extended songs, of course Jim dancing away throughout most of the set!
The show lasted about two hours (including the encore). I really thinking he will alternate one MMJ song to start the encore. He did "Moving Away" by himself with the acoustic. I have never seen "Dear God" live so that was a treat.
Jim was definitely a lot more fan interactive this show touching people's fingers in the crowd (E.T. sytle, lol).
I can't wait for the show tonight in Chicago.

The performance was amazing. Not that they were bad in NYC, but they have really improved in a of ways, especially in the overall production quality.
I will say...my girlfriend and I got there early for the first entry so that we could get in the first row of the balcony, and during 'new life,' we were basically completely overcome with positive emotions to the point where we absolutely had to get up and dance. We were both having an amazing time. All of a sudden i get a tap on my left shoulder and a stern face looking at me from the aisle, "Hey man, you need to sit down. I can't see, none of us can see, you're blocking our view." And I said, "We're at a concert, if you want to see all you have to do is stand up (i'm 5'11'', and the balcony slopes, this is pretty reasonable). He repeated what he said, i repeated what I said, and he left and shouted "f### you" on his way back to his seat. It is what it is i guess.

I hate when people complain about me standing at shows. Get over yourself and show jim some respect. If your legs work, stand up!
How easy is it to get rail? How early should I try to get in line at Columbus?
I was shocked at the number of roll callers at the milwaukee show. I'm bad with putting numbers on groups of people but i would say at least 100 maybe 150 roll callers were there by 7:00PM (the stated first entry time)
Note: If you want first entry to go how you think it should go, you are most likely going to have to take it upon yourself. The original plan in MKE was that instead of a separate line for roll callers, have instead of having them go in at 7pm, only one line had formed and they announced that they would call roll callers to enter at 7:30 and then let everyone else in afterwards. So what I did was simply went to the very front of the line and working my way back to the end had everyone with a laminate form a new line, keeping their arrived-in order. When they announced roll call entry it was then simple and orderly. It's not hard to cajole people into switching lines, they see you holding up the laminate and they know what to do.
I will say that even those at the very end of the roll call line had amazing seats in the first couple rows behind the pit, which was only about 3 or 4 rows deep of floor space. The other option is to show up right at first entry time and head straight for the balcony. No one goes there first, for the most part, and barring someone trying to ruin your day because they don't feel like standing it's an amazing way to take in the show.
Killer show. Jim was more connected to an audience than I have seen him since 2005. No cape to hide behind
By connection, I mean making genuine eye contact with people. It was very clear to me that this experience is something very different for him. He likes it a lot.

I actually disagree a bit.
I was at the Vic tonight and one of my friends is quite short so she always has trouble seeing. Because of that we went straight up to the balcony and had maybe 5th or 6th row balcony seats and a great view. But when the show started three people first row balcony stood up causing most of our section to have to stand. No one else in the balcony was really standing except for us because of the three people up front.
My question is, the people in front clearly were in line early and got in fast, so if they wanted to stand up and dance the whole time, why not go on the floor?
that's a big reason we were up there too. my girlfriend is about 5'3''. But the thing about the balcony that the floor doesn't have is that it slopes, so no matter how many rows back we are it's better for her. as far as standing or sitting, in general, i can see that argument at like a baseball game or a football where someone is standing the entire game, not just during the action moments. But it's music, how do you dance to music sitting down? i guess i just don't get that. We get there especially early for the first row of the balcony for the option to sit down when we need a break from standing, but not as a default position.
Anyhow, i digress. I do see the other side of it, but i like my side better
I just wanted to add that I found it troubling that Jim had to pretend play the sax a couple times. I can't recall which song has the intricate sax solo at the end, but Jim was obviously faking it. There were simpler sax segments later in the show that he did look like he was actually playing it.
It's because that sample didn't come from a sax. There's some plastic key tar thing that he used on a Xmas video that sounds just like what he used to do the Know Til Now coda sax bit. Jim isn't that good of a sax player. Although he has improved greatly since I first heard him play at the Brown in Dec. 2011. His tone has improved bunches. I was right in front of him in Louisville. What he played after the drum solo was not good. It sounded like what I use to play in 8th grade band when I pretended to play jazz improv. When he plays longer notes like he did during the third time he had the sax, it was much better. He's still learning the instrument. I have to give him credit for going out onstage and showing off his growing skills. I'm of the opinion that he's doing the sax schtick on the coda of Know Til Now as a joke. He's obv not playing it. He doesn't even go up to the microphone.
