Title: Roll Call VA Beach
Post by: manonthemoon on May 04, 2013, 07:14 PM
1st off got to say I was disappointed that all of the GA Pit Tix were only available with the Hot Tix option of $205 per ticket or at least thats the only way I was able to pull tickets off of Live Nation so looking like a seated show for us.

there are still some available.  It was unnecessarily confusing - you have to first pick your ticket price level under "Full Price Ticket" (the $94.50 option) and then under "Additional", pick General Admission.

I hate Ticketmaster/Live Nation as I am sure many regular concert-goers do.

Nice going parker.  Pit tix are there.

LN  will let peeps upgrade, and cancel their original order. I did this for the Camden show as pits came up the day after our presale. They just canceled my 1st order and credited my CC.

Thanks you guys for the info I'll have to go ahead and grab a pair and email them about the pair my wife had bought them during the presale.  That makes my day as I hate seated shows, especially for Jacket .

You got it man.   I'd call them about canceling your order though. Pretty sure it has to be done by phone.  There's a return policy link on the upper right of the buy tix page for each show. It should have all the info, and a support phone# or at least a link to one.

My return went super smooth, and they only wanted the order # being canceled. She never even asked for proof  that I upgraded or the pit ticket order #. Credit applied directly back to my Amex within a day.

Yeah, had to get the wife to do it since the purchase was on her account, but I was really suprised that even the Live Nation people couldn't find the tickets at first for Pit Availability .  I had to walk my wife through how to find them so that she could relay that to them.  You know you made it to hard on the consumer when your own staff can't find the tickets.  All is set now so happy to be able to make the exchange, thanks again for all of the info and help Eric and Parker.

Sidenote, you making it down to the MPP show Eric?  I thought I saw you were thinking about it.

Nah Brett, MPP is not looking likely right now. Mid week is tough, but if it works out last minute that I can make it, I'll be sure to let you know. Gonna be tough to top our last time there, but it'll be nice to try!

Yeah, I don't know if the 7 cities are a hot bed for MMJ, I was thinking Dylan would be the big pull down there.  Oh well, just means the Pit will be that much more manageable especially comming off of MPP where its always crazy.

I have to agree there. The only things that move tickets around here is mainstream country, DMB and Buffett.  I wouldn't be surprised if there are less than 5k tickets sold for this.  Place holds 20k.

You also forgot the 80's rock bands that always have shows down there.  I remember back in 05-07 when we lived down there it seemed like there were always some old bands playing in the area.

So trying to figure out a game plan for this show as we're all set for MMP and Camden.  What is the tailgating like at the venue, never been, and are there any good bars nearby or decent resturants?  Might also try to pick up a nice cigar while in town, but if not too many good options I'll just bring something from Old Town when we come down.  Any suggestions are appreciated .

Best bet for bar nearby is Finn McCools at Landstown Commons, fairly generic Irish pub type place.  It's really close to the venue.  For cigars, Emerson's is not far off the highway and its close to the Yardhouse which has a sick beer selection, over 100+ on draft.  It's about 5 miles from the venue in the Town Center area of VB

I'm very close to joining the roll call for this show.  It's a challenge to pull this off right after Merriweather and right before Newport, but at least by the end of last week work responsibilities seemed to be parting like the red sea for Moses to make this work out for me.

It's crazy to go onto Livenation's interactive seat map and see how poorly this show has sold.  Still pit available and the front sections aren't even sold out.  Could be a very intimate affair.

Do it Whip, I think they'll be all riled up after MPP the night before.

Not suprised to hear about the show not selling so well.  Just got back from 5 days in Nags Head and there were tons of radio spots talking about the show so I figured that might be the case.  Oh well, just means we won't have to fight to get a good place in the Pit and probably won't have to line up as early.  The MPP show will probably be the opposite based on typical MPP shows.

Parker, thanks for the info, emersons looks like a great shop and Yardhouse sounds right up my alley so we may check those out if we don't over do it the day before at MPP.  Might still try to tailgate a little though just to see when might be a good time to start lining up for a good spot inside the venue.  Cheers .

you're quite welcome.  I am also not surprised to hear about the ticket sales or lack there of (the 757 can be kinda lame)  I think this would have been a perfect show for the Portsmouth amphitheater but getting to that place by 5pm on a Wednesday would have a nightmare.  Me and the group I will be going with will be there for Ryan Bingham and all have GA tickets, it would be cool to meet some forum folks, so PM me if you want to meet at the venue for some tailgating.

TAKE NOTICE: If you're coming from the west, just be sure to account for the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.  It could easily have a multi-mile backup from 2pm on.  The Monitor-Merrimac is the other option but there will be a sign in Newport News telling you the estimated times to VB going either way.

I'll definitely be there on Wednesday, nice and early. I dont have a ticket yet, crazy that PIT tix are still available, didnt realize that until reading this thread. Its very tempting, but I can probably get a lawn ticket for $20. MMJ playing only 75 minutes or so, and money being tight for me because I lost my job definitely have me leaning on lawn. Never seen MMJ from the lawn before

I think the Gate have been opening at around 4:30 for most shows so I would say the lots have to be open prior to then.

We'll probably be looking to get in at around 300 or so and tailgate for a little while before trying to head in and get a nice rail spot like last night.

I am guessing we'll be there sort of early, but my number is 703-785-2753 and will be wearing one of my Mastodon shirts if you are want to hang out.  Cheers.

We are probably going to hit a spot close by for a bite and some brews then head in for Ryan Bingham around 5.  I don't expect much problem with getting a rail spot. I'll keep an eye out for ya.

They've been known to be dicks in the lots just make sure brews are in plastic cups. Def keep a straight line leaving cause they don't eff around on drinking and driving.

I'm sure there were no complaints from Mr. Manonthemoon  about Two Halves getting dropped.

Dylan covering "The Weight" with Jeff and Jim. Why couldn't they have done it in Sartoga with Garth when I was there?

I'd like to put the blame on the random idiot who yelled "Judas!" during a quiet point in Dylan's set. I'm sure he LOVES that.

this tour/dylan makes no sense. dylan plays the same set every night then busts out the weight in virginia beach... pretty wild

This is my favorite collab so far on this tour. Dylan did surprisingly well covering this.

It was funny as one Wilco fan and I were saying how they had to cover this song at some point this tour and of course after I leave they pull it out, oh well great show anyway.

The show was so awesome, really enjoyed everything more than the night before.  The staff was so much easier to deal with.  I think the bands gave it their all even though it was a very small crowd of 4500 or so people.

Bingham really impressed me more than the previous night.  Based on the setlists on the boards it was the same, but for some reason I really loved it last night and thought there were at least 2 songs that weren't played previously.

MMJ was just lights out.  Lowdown and Dondante were mindblowingly good and I really love the back end riffs on I'm Amazed so that was really cool.  Carl kept on jamming right infront of us when we he came towards the crowd for the Sax or guitar solos which was awesome in itself.  The crowd was really into it even if it was a smaller crowd and all of the dylan fans and wilco fans that were near us we're blown away.

Wilco was very solid on this night IMO.  Sunken Treasure, Art Of Almost, Impossible Germany, Box Full Of Letters, Cinnamon Girl were just awesome.  Nels is really talented and being on the rail you could really see the man work.  I knew he was good, but to me he is the very best part of Wilco.  Also when the boys came out to do CG they were really amped up so you could tell it was going to be good.  I am probably definately staying for Wilco on Sunday as they really impressed me this night.

We lucked out and got another setlist to go with the one the previous night so I was really excited to see Two Halves got the axe, that might of been the only thing that could of brought me down .  We left early and didn't stay for Dylan as he underwhelmed us the previous night.  On the way out the wife had been looking for another MMJ shirt and I noticed earlier on when getting my poster that they had a new blue one with a moon on it so she said she might get that.  We went over to the merch area and as luck was happen Carl was in line with a friend of his, odd right, so we got to meet him for the first time and told him we liked the set from tonight and he gave me a OBH postcard which will now go with the set list.  So that was awesome and would of never happened if we had stayed for Dylan so I think we got the better of that deal.

It was great meeting you Parker and great seeing you again Scotty.  I'm sure we'll see you again at other shows down the line and like I mentioned before if you like metal we'll be around for Mastodon at the Norva in August.  Cheers.

It was really great meeting you and Scotty as well. I thought the band was in really great spirits, Jim's thumbs up were just making me laugh.  He even had a little banter with a fan asking him why they call him Yim Yames.  You nailed the highlights for me.  I really would have like to heard Evil Urges and I saw them warming up the flying V at one point, but alas no appearance.

Wilco was on point and their last run from Art of Almost to CG was nasty (She's a Jar is such a ridiculously great song).

Yeah, I had a blast. That was about as good of a set as I couldve expected for how short it was. I wouldve liked to have heard Evil Urges too, its one of my favorites on that album and I dont think Ive heard it since T5. I wouldve preferred we got EU instead of SST, but at least they cut out Two Halves. The band and Jim especially did seem to be in good spirits despite  a lacking/empty crowd for their early set. I think he knew basically everyone in the pit at that point was there mainly for them.

I enjoyed the Dylan set for what it was, but I also felt pretty spent as his set went on, 5 hours standing in the pit aint easy, and left I think the song before they busted out The Weight, so a little pissed at myself for that. Not like I was expecting Bob Dylan Live 1966, but I also wasnt expecting Bob Dylan plays Smooth Jazz 2013. It honestly took me awhile to realize when he was playing Hard Rains a Gonna Fall and Simple Twist of Fate, they just felt, off, which was another reason I didnt feel bad leaving early. Still glad I got to see him once.

Although I only caught the very tailend of his set, Ive been listening to quite a bit of Ryan Bingham since the show. I like all his albums, but I actually think his newest one is the best since his debut Mescalito. Great voice.

Good hanging out with you again Brett and meeting you Parker! To bad there arent more shows coming here in the near future, although theres a few Ill probably be hitting up in September - Robert Randolph & Family Band (free), Allman Bros & Grace Potter, Delta Spirit (free)
