Well I went ahead and bought the whole album on Amazon since I like a couple of the other bands too - the song is fantastic! Great upbeat music, an awesome vocal by Jim and it's really catchy.
I can't download any of the songs even though I bought them due to some crazy setup on Amazon's part, but I can listen to them, and new MMJ tune is great.

I hear that, believe me. I've bitten the bullet on both the Dallas Buyers Club and True Blood soundtracks for the MMJ tracks contained therein, though I usually find a few other tracks on them worth hearing from time to time. I would think offering individual tracks, especially on compilations or soundtracks, would do better for sales than having folks "sharing" the tracks for free, as this kind of thing encourages...

I've given this song 4 or 5 listens now and that number is going to grow exponentially in the very near future (read tonight)... And all I can say is WOW...

Exactly. There's an interesting groove 'chant', a well built vocal climax and a nice addition of horns to top things off. Nice structure. Good job MMJ!

Why is "stealing" a bands music such a big deal as long as you support them in the real money making "arenas"/concerts/merch (no pun intended) Your buddy can still go buy the CD and let you borrow it for as long as you want. I was reading a heated discussion today about how albums are the music videos of the 80's. they've become more of a promotional item to get listeners to your shows and to purchase the merch. It's a shame that the glory days of record sales isn't what it use to be for an artist though. I still purchase most of my music if its something I really love, but streaming services introduce me to new artists and allow me to listen to determine if I do love it.
Having said all that, back to the song, it sounds like it will rock live which is what I care about the most. I have to say that I am quickly growing tired of modern artists who follow the beiber rules for song production and just repeat the same word or phrase over and over again. I'm not comparing this to beiber at all, it's just the first place I really noticed how much that happens. The plus side of that is that I can easily see this song fitting into the playlist for a pop station and bringing the band lots of cash and fans. Nothing wrong with that unless it makes it hard for the core group of fans to get tickets. I definitely think this band deserves financial gains for all their hard work over the years.

Someone (understandably since the track isn't available for individual purchase) asked for it. Gotta keep public requests for sharing off the forum. Tracks like this and Turn Turn Turn shouldn't be difficult for fans to access. Seems a free download to Roll Callers might be a nice gesture. Or streaming it with purchase links. It's likely not in their control.
I doubt this song is a product of their recording for a new album, which just started formally last week. It was probably in the can months ago, all the more reason for me to be hopeful about the new album. If this ends up on the new one, I'd be surprised, but it feels like they're reaching beyond EU and Circ styles here, though some of it still lingers.
For all the calls for a return to the pre-2008 vibe, I respect MMJ for making music to satisfy themselves. We can come along for the ride or get off at the next stop. We may never see another Steam Engine, Lay Low, or War Begun, but I love the journey thus far... and the great thing is, we have amazing documentation of live material, and future shows, to sustain us!
It sounds like it was specifically made for either a fun montage in the movie or to roll over the end credits. I like it, but I don't think it's the all-out best this band is capable of, nor do I think it's one of the worst things they've ever done. Just because I love a band doesn't mean that I have no critical views on their output. I don't ever want to be the person who loves a band so much that I can't analyze and critique their work. To me, one of the joys of art is dissecting it and discussing it.
Really enjoyed this song a lot more once I got home from work and could crank it up really loud. I'm like yac, pretty sure this one has been in the can for quite a while. I know they went into this recording session with a clean slate, seems to me like this is definitely gonna be a record that the band has had the most input as a whole(that process started with EU but has gradually progressed from Jim taping everything and sending the rest of the members the samples and let them play with it, to getting them all together with jims work and working on it together(circ) and now a clean slate...the band walked in with nothing but a few ideas it sounds like...I'm quite optimistic myself...and go buy the soundtrack...it's worth it

Yeah I am always torn, hoping for a new "Steam Engine", "War Begun", or "LayLow". I realize that a band like MMJ will always be changing, growing, and experimenting. I hope that continues. I love the energy of MMJ shows and how the songs can take me away and give me a feeling unlike others.
It's great to be able to hear those older gems and share them in a show with newer ideas. To this day, I still find myself loving something new about a different song that I never fully "got".
The new song has a lot of the elements of an MMJ song that I truly love. If I wanna critique I guess I wish for a longer solo from Jim (guessing Carl was on steel the whole time).

Considering the Retweet, you could be right.
If this was just an extra song that didn't make the cut for their last two albums, then wow. This is an excellent song. If it was written for the movie then there must be more awesome ideas that they're saving for their next album. Either scenario, I think long term fans will be along for the ride as opposed to getting off at this stop.

Argh man, another MMJ song I can't buy or listen to in the UK.
I don't think this song will be a part of the new album. However, that doesn't mean that it can't pop up in a live setting here and there as with Where to Begin.
I'm with Fully on the notion of repetitive lyrics..especially when those lyrics are the title of the song. Probably one of my biggest pet peeves with music. Also, when you end a line with, "today," i have always thought that was sort of generic and lazy.
Why does it sound like I'm Amazed? Because the drum beat is almost identical, lol. I have to say, the lyrics in I'm Amazed probably blow this out of the water, for what that's worth.
That said, i don't hate it. It's catchy. It reminds me of MOF, especially the lyrics, but more Jackety. That's one reason that I feel it has been in the stack for a while. I feel that it could definitely be something that hits hard live. I also agree with Johnny in that I'm happy if they are happy, leaving room for me to critique as Fully has stated.
If I'm wrong, I just hope that if this is the direction they are going that they are doing it for the right reason and not JUST to appeal to a crowd the NEEDS catchiness and short tracks. I would hope that this is the kind of music they absolutely love making. If that's the way it is, it will be obvious during their shows and i will enjoy feeding off their energy. The whole selling out thing is so overblown. It's about making something that you believe in, challenging yourself as an artist, and putting maximum effort into it.
However, I along with a lot of you am still holding out hope that the new album has that old magic to it. Part of me wonders if that's even possible anymore. Jim's not the same person he used to be, he's probably a much happier individual..or at least more content.. and I don't know if he's in touch with or willing to be in touch with the type of deep emotion that made songs like Steam Engine, Dondante, War Begun, and Strangulation possible. We'll see. For now, it's a new MMJ track and it's hard not to be thankful for that!
Totally stumbled on to this tonight on spotify. Im surprised it took until the last post, but this reminds me a lot of sort of a combo of MOF and JJ's solo album, with a little MMJ kick I guess mostly because of the solo.
I definitely like it, dont love it, but hard to say what it brings for the future. While there are a few notable covers on the Dallas Buyers Club soundtrack - Portugal The Man doing T.Rex's Main Man, Capital Cities covering Stayin Alive - the majority of the songs from other relevant bands are originals and not released on previous albums - Manchester Orchestra, AWOLNATION, Cold War Kids, Airbourne Toxic Event, The Naked and Famous, to name a few.
Maybe this is a MMJ track that has been shelved for awhile, but based on the other bands contributing mostly new songs, I wouldnt be surprised if Ready To Be Called On was a recently written song by MMJ.

The soundtrack is on spotify for free...and I had the song on a few MMJ playlist for awhile but then it was made unavailable. You can't listen to it. It's a great song, my only guess as to why they removed is bc it's probably on the new album.

Not necissarily, sometimes I have noticed certain songs, and even albums, become unavailable from time to time. The only reason I don't think it'll be on the new album is that it was an older song dug up for the sound track (IIRC) and that doesn't seem to fit with how they do things. I personally love the song and would kill to hear it live.
Have they ever played this live? And is there anyway I can buy this song without buying the entire damn soundtrack? Was so bummed when they pulled it from Spotify. Love this song. Brilliant.

I think this song is fantastic as well. I also seriously doubt a song already released on another album will be on the new album. True, stuff sometimes disappears and then reappears mysteriously from Spotify. I bet it will be back again.
