Not one, but TWO, brand new Prince albums out today plus you can stream him live tonight... Exciting stuff
https://screen.yahoo.com/live/event/prince
I listened to these both this morning and I gotta say, I was shaking my money maker.
Prince is a one of a kind nutjob, I get it, but god damm can he just effortlessly pump out perfect pop songs. There's some real bangers on both these albums. Thoroughly enjoying both of them, although I lean towards Plectrum Electrum which is the one recorded with 3rdEyedGirl and rocks a bit more
been a huge fan since the late 70's. these two albums are his best in a couple decades, imho.
caught him at louisville gardens, an old little downtown venue, back in 1997. still the best concert i've ever seen, and i've seen quite a few. as my buddy said while we were leaving, "that's the baddest m***** f***** on the planet!"

He is far and away number 1 on my bucket list, hopefully a big tour is in the works
saw him in DC for the musicology tour and it was the best thing i have ever seen. dude had the arena in the palm of his hands.
saw him at one of this MSG shows a few years ago. part of the show where he had his girls pick people out of the audience to dance on stage. one of the lucky ones was none other than kim kardashian. everybody got on stage and was dancing except kim. sooo prince gave her the boot off stage.

I have yet to listen to these albums. Definitely have to pick them up this weekend.
I've seen Prince a few times. The best show - and the best concert I've attended - was in 2001 during the One Nite Alone Tour. At this time, he had finally been released from his Sony contract and was releasing albums through his site and fan club, but not commercially. He then went on tour and played in pretty small venues. We saw him at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, where he played to about 2200 people. It was three hours of Prince and that edition of NPG. That show was mindblowing, absolutely fried my brains. And he hardly played any of the classic hits that night; a handful, but not many.

first hit is in Louisville...won't happen but what if there was a Jim guest spot on "I Could Never Be Your Man"?
OH MY GOD THE VILLE GOES ON SALE THE SAME TIME AS JACKET TIX.
Why must he be so difficult?! Just plan a tour, play MSG, and let me give you all my money! Gonna be keeping my eye out for these dates like crazy
Monday morning tickets go on sale for a show next Saturday. and we don't even know the venue! crazy!!
excited it is starting here in Louisville. I will be trying for tickets. If JJ comes out with Prince that would be insane. :cheesy:
since it's a live nation event, i'm betting it's at the louisville palace. the yum is booked, too cold for the amphitheater, surely to god he's not playing headliners. i guess there's always freedom hall, but i hope not.
probably risking my job, but i must find a way to be home sitting at my computer at 10am tomorrow. can't miss this one.
it has to be the Palace. I looked and there are shows already at The Brown, the yum, whitney hall even. Headliners too. that would have been insane if he played at Headliners.
Good Luck in 15 minutes with tickets. will be trying here as well!!
shut out immediately. then 2nd show announced for right after the first show. 2 shows in one night, at 8 and then at 11...shut out completely.
i scored 4 tix! i am so pumped for this. bucket list show for sure.
wow, how?
spoke to 3-4 others who were all shut out as well.
I know 2 people that got tickets. Prince is a bucket list for me as well, but I didn't even try.
kinda outrageous that the cheapest tickets were $97!
I would have liked to have gone but life will go on.
Be aware that they are requiring credit card that the tickets were purchased with at admission. So stubhub is not selling tickets. Same would apply if you buy from scalper outside or on craigs list, etc. so beware before you buy any and then can't use them!
OMG! they announced a Sunday show now and a guy from my office came and told me and I got 2 Floor Seats!!!!
i also got shut out on monday. was sooooo bummed.
got a call at 12:30 today alerting me to the third show sunday. got lucky, gox tix, 20 rows back.
then i thought....hmmmm, wonder if he'll do 2 shows sunday????
soon as i checked, there it was, a 4th show. got tix for it, too. 5th row.
went from no show at all to 2 in one night. freakin' awesome! can't thank prince and/or his management enough for playing 4 shows in 2 nights. i wouldn't be going otherwise.
woohoo!!
I am about 20 some rows back, row EE. I was thrilled. The time before that I had two seats upstairs and the system kicked me out before it was final!
did the last show sell out too? I never saw them on sale, and it looks as though they haven't gone on sale yet by the site. I guess it has though if you got tickets to it. I had a friend still trying.
Hopefully he won't play the same show back to back!!
Grats guys, I won't ruin and tell you how awesome it was :cheesy:

Prince danced, joked, flirted and absolutely destroyed the ego of every guitarist in attendance, firmly living up to preshow promises of guitar hero rock 'n' roll built on a foundation of funk.
With the ticketless system requiring a credit card scan and ID check for each buyer, it's a slow process so get there early or risk arriving at the last second to shorter lines but also the chance of missing a couple of songs.
i'm so pumped for this that i'm ready to go stand in line for the next 7 hours! got a feeling i'll be missing the start of the second show, though. once they clear the venue after show#1 i guess i'll be stuck at the back of the line for show#2.
Prince was FUCKININSANE!!!!!!!!!!!
found the setlist:
Prince 3/15/15 @LvillePalace setlist 8pm show:
Wow, Funknroll, Break down (P on keys), Pretzelbodylogic > Stratus (P on keys) > Drum solo, Let's Go Crazy, Take me with you, U Got the look, Don't stop till u get enough, Cool, Something In The Water (Does Not Compute), Controversy, 1999, Little Red Corvette, Nothing Compare 2 U, Kiss
E 1: What If, Purple Rain,
E 2: When Doves Cry, Sampler set: Hot thing, Housequake, Sign O The Times, Clouds? tease, Alphabet street, Forever In My Life (P on bass), I would Die for u, A Love bizarre, Darling Nikki tease, Sampler improv, White boy (back on guitar) Thank you
END at 10:15 - 2 hour show.
I was about 8-9 rows from the back and was still thrilled just to have gotten in.
but some silly silly people left after Purple Rain, like 20 people.
So we snuck down to some empty seats in the 5th row for the 2nd encore which was about a half hour!!
And fans were brought up on stage for the 2nd encore to dance. it was pretty wild.
i pulled a ticket for row H in detroit tonight.
i'm wondering if we're just going to get an absolute marathon set because it appears he's only going to play one show here.

When was that show announced? I know he's doing the whole thing where he announces shows only a few days in advance, but I didnt hear anything about this one. I'm patiently waiting for a NY show

If I'm remembering right it was either late on Friday night or really early on Saturday morning.

I'd suggest following @drfunkenberry or @PURPLESSENCE on twitter.
I'll definitely report back.
Good lord, what a set last night in Detroit -- wish I went! Can't believe he busted out "She's Always In My Hair"! Can't wait to hear a full report, robb!
Dr. Funkenberry sent an ominous "T . " tweet last night, so I'm hoping Toronto is next on the list!
Just snagged some pit tickets to the Prince+3EG show in Toronto tomorrow night!! Prince's guitarist Donna Grantis is from Toronto (actually first saw her play at a Woman's Blues Revue in town a few years ago!) so this should be a sweet homecoming!
I am attempting to do something crazy and see Tame Impala and Prince in the same night. Tame Impala is scheduled to go on at 9, and Prince starts at 11 a few blocks away. Definitely the most aggressive and ambitious concert-going plans I've ever made. This'll be interesting!

i never wrote a review on this, mostly because i couldn't put it into words how awesome it was.
that double dip is going to be crazy, i'm stoked you were able to snag some tickets.
Well, that was one of the craziest nights ever, alright. Flying high on the Purple stuff right now.
FYI -- in my Prince withdrawal, I found an UNREAL soundboard recording from the Detroit show!! The way Prince gets with tapings, I'm sure this'll be gone in a day or two, so I'm thrilled I got it before he snatched it back. Let me know if you want me to send it over. It's curing my post-Prince blues big time.

Yes please tell me this is still available
Holy shit... not only is this the first Prince show I've heard recorded, its about the best sounding audience recording I've ever heard.
Can someone send the taping my way? PM or email: johnnyyac@gmail.com
Glad this recording is making its way around! What a treasure.
3RDEYEGIRL are sooooooo damn heavy. I'd kill to see 'em again. And again and again!
I think Prince has died?

A sad state of affairs...
This is tragic. :(

perhaps my all-time favorite musician. fucking devastating news.
Great Guitar player RIP Prince
The shock is palpable. There are a select few who come to this Earth and stay original...like they never stopped speaking the language of the motherland. If you ever get a chance to watch Prince play "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at a George Harrison tribute, it says it all. Looking at Dhani Harrison's face while Prince just shreds his father's song. He was the one who true musicians bowed to as the greatest. Prince made it a point to mentor and play with women, not as a novelty, but because he knew the righteousness of our intuition. He was defined by no one. No one could understand him, much less master him. In his enigmatic presence, lay his power. This is a goddamn heartbreaking loss. https://youtu.be/4UkSIcm_y7Y (https://youtu.be/4UkSIcm_y7Y)
wow, those Tavis Smiley interviews are really good. Would love to hear his and Cornell West's conversations that he references in this one:

What a loss.
This is While My Guitar Gently Weeps from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Prince stealing the show. Unreal guitar solo. Watch until the end when he exits the stage knowing that he just dominated.

JJ posted a nice tribute which you can see from his twitter or instagram.
Roll call tix for last summer's MMJ Atlanta shows went on sale at the exact same time as Prince's shows at the Louisville Palace. My friends were counting on me to score good seats in Atlanta. I had to break it to them.......Prince was my top priority. As much as I love MMJ, this was Prince we're talking about, the baddest mf'er on the planet.
Thankfully, I ended up with great seats for both. So glad I got to see him one last time. Still can't believe it.
I have said many times today how glad I am that I got to see him last year at The Palace.
We worked hard to get those tickets!! Worth it!!
It was the only time I ever saw him and it was incredible.
really sad here today. :(
RIP Prince
To the baddest MUTHAFUCKA to pick up a guitar or almost any instrument....
Saw him 6 times in 3 days in Chicago 3 shows and 3 after party club shows.
An Amazing, exhausting, musical 3 days I'll never forget!
NO ONE"Could Ever Take The Place of That Man!!!"
I'm crushed... My greatest musical regret will now always be that I never had the chance to see Prince live.
RIP The Purple One
"Can you make it rain harder?"
Johnny Yac...I watched that just prior to your post, and was just floored. Talk about a goddamn champion. Who not only accepts a challenge, but throws down harder than anyone could imagine.
I saw this tribute to Prince by the cast of the Color Purple, including Jennifer Hudson, this morning. Jesus Christ it made me cry. Here is the link:

What Prince songs has MMJ covered besides I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man?
There's a video floating around from some James Brown show. He pulls Michael Jackson on stage, and then brings Prince on stage. JB, MJ, and Prince back to back to back... Doesn't seem plausible, but it's out there. Needless to say, Prince is the one your left thinking about when it's all over.
...here's another good one.

Bruce opened his show in Brooklyn last night with this very well done cover of Purple Rain.

Parker...I've wanted to see Dick Gregory live for a while...Brother West is one of the finest American intellectual S alive today. His books "Race Matters" and "Democracy Matters" are two of the finest examples of the tradition of prophetic wisdom in Black American theology/sociology. He is the closest legacy to the revolutionaries of yore.
Eric...thanks forposting Bruce. I'm almost nervously excited to watch it...
In 2001, Prince anonymously donated $12,000 to the Louisville Free Public Library System to keep the Western Branch Library from closing. It was the first full-service library for black Americans.
^^ Like!

RIP... would have been 60 today. My biggest musical regret is that I never got to see Prince live. I oh so wish there was more Prince content available out there on the interweb. Just the coolest man to ever do it..
not sure if yall caught this but Prince's "estate" or whatever released a full show on Youtube
It's peak Prince. Please treat yo self.
