friday-saturday makes atlanta too good to pass up.  we already booked a room across the street from the Fox for both nights, so it looks like i'll be making the drive down from louisville......assuming i can get tickets.

roll call limits us to 2, right? hate to pass on the pre-sale, but i might choose to wait for the public sale so all 4 of us can sit together.

I've heard horror stories about ATL traffic. Assuming I leave Nashville on a Friday at 5 - I have no chance of making this right? Especially since I'd lose and hour to EST. I'm in for Saturday though...

just saw that roll callers can get 4 tickets during the pre-sale. as many have already said, monday is going to be verrrry interesting! :cheesy:

Not sure how many tickets will be released for Roll call, that's always the issue. Slappy, what's the hotel you got? Me and Mrs. LL are going to be researching that very subject.

we've got the Georgian Terrace, seems to be directly across the street. prices seemed in line with surrounding hotels, and i'm all for a short walk to and fro.

i share the concern over pre-sale quantities. the fox seats 4600, i assume the smaller the venue, the smaller the allotment. not sure if the numbers are dictated by the fan club or the venue itself.  scoring tickets for both nights is my main concern. while i'm grabbing friday tix, saturday might be selling out.

oh well, i'm sure it will work out somehow.

well, in a bizarre twist of fate, it looks like i'll be busy buying prince tickets monday at 10am. as much as i love our heroes, prince is.....well, he's freakin' prince, the baddest man on the planet.

might be relying on the public sale for Atlanta after all.

Booked a room at the Georgian Terrace ahead of time just in case.  Logistically this works better for me more than Minneapolis.  Might hit a Braves game Thursday or Sunday.  So far no +1, but I might buy a pair of tix.

The Georgian Terrace is across from the Fox and the perfect spot to stay. If anyone has any questions about Atlanta feel free to hit me up. dcokeratl@gmail.com Good luck on the presale tom! I'm praying for tickets to the Georgia Theatre!

I've been to probably a dozen or so shows at the Fox and I would like to warn people that have never been there; I wouldn't get seats too far underneath the Balcony overhang. The overhang starts around seat M on the lower level. A good chunk of the seats are deep underneath the balcony and I don't think that's the best for sound quality.  The first balcony is great for sound/view and the upper balconies aren't bad either.  They Fox sounds awesome and is beautiful inside (it was originally built as a Shriner's Temple) for those that have never been!

Agreed! I've seen several concerts and musicals there and the seats underneath the balcony have pretty terrible sound quality. The first level balcony seats are pretty great if you can't be up front. Sat in those seats for one of my favorite concerts... "an Evening with Wilco" several years ago.

Bummed to miss the Athens pre-sale, but got pit AAA tickets for night 1 and loge tickets for night 2. Not bad. Is Fox Atlanta pit GA or am I really going to be in row 1 right in front of Jim like the seating chart shows?

Got first row loge for night 1.  Thought I was buying them for both nights. Guess I will hope for something for night 2 during general on sale

I was able to get 2 tix for Saturday night - Row EEE.

For those that didn't get in, keep refreshing - I had trouble at first, and the tickets were gone, but someone must have released their tickets and I got in.

Finally got some love from Roll Call pre-sale:
Section Pit, Row AAA, Seat 22
Section Pit, Row AAA, Seat 23

From the interactive seating chart it seems like we might be getting some of Jim's sweat spray.

I think I clicked loge by accident when I went to night 2. Kicking myself, probably could have been in the pit both nights.

Had a similar experience: kept trying to find tickets and refreshing and ended up with orchestra center row B on Friday night, and pit center row AAA on Saturday night. Whoop!

I'm in, probably screwed up by getting the two night package instead of buying singles for each night but I'll take Row E...

FYI there is a Marta stop (North Ave) about 3 blocks from the venue, good way to beat the traffic into town, particularly if you would be coming in via GA400 or I-85 from the north side.

Sadly I was unable to get any tickets for either night.
I am a recent digital member so I could not begin until 10:30am.

Not sure if it was bad luck or they were all gone by 10:30 but hopefully the public sale on Friday will be kinder.

They were all sold out by 10:05 -10:10. Yes, should be much easier during public sale.

at 10 sharp, i spent 5 minutes trying to get prince tickets......and failed. the louisville palace sold out in a couple of minutes.

so i switch my attention to MMJ at the fox.....too late, can't get the 2 night tix we wanted. gotta wait for the public sale.

so i go back to make one last desperate attempt for prince tickets......only to see that they had immediately added a second show, which also sold out in a couple of minutes.

so i got nothing. and i'm not real happy about it, especially prince. 2 shows right here in the 'ville, and i'm not going to either of them. so freakin' bummed right now.

the public sale better be good to me.

I've never been to the Fox Theater so I'm hoping you forum friends can help me with a couple of questions:

1. Are you expected to sit down at the Fox? Are people more likely to get pissed off if you're sitting in the loge/balcony and stand up? There's no way I will be physically able to sit down when I'm in the same room as MMJ!

2. Smoking? Do the ushers freak out or throw people out?

3. I've read that the loge seats are amazing but my typical concert theory is "the closer to the band the better"... does anyone have opinions on this?

Thank you all and I can't wait to see you at the Fox!
Title: Re: Roll Call Fox Theater Atlanta

First of all, the Fox is an amazing venue for a show.  You are within walking distance to both Midtown and Downtown Atlanta.  The last MMJ show there, everyone was standing.  How in the world would you sit during a MMJ show?!  Smoking is not allowed within the venue.  There is really not a bad seat in the venue but, like you, I like to be close and that is where I will be!

1.  Last mmj show i saw there i was up getting down the whole time

2.  Dont smoke in the theater, its way t00 nice :)

3.  The loge seats are great, all depends on where you want to be

the orchestra seats about halfway back get under the overhang and sometimes the sound becomes problematic in some areas IMHO

cant wait!

i got a fraud alert from amex! freaked me the hell out.  the reason i was given was that gilt.com processes one $74 charge at a time, and the quickly repeating charges of the same amount caused the amex fraud protection to kick in.

had to call both to get things straightened out, but looks like we're good for both nights.

either that, or i just got swindled out of 600 bucks.  :drum:

well its official....MMJ shared the link on Facebook so we're good
that's reassuring.  had this fear that we'd show up friday evening, hand over our vouchers at will call, and get laughed at. "you fell for that scam? wow, what chumps!!"

would have loved to save that 20%, but like i said, just get me in the door and i'm happy.

i got a fraud alert from amex! freaked me the hell out.  the reason i was given was that gilt.com processes one $74 charge at a time, and the quickly repeating charges of the same amount caused the amex fraud protection to kick in.

had to call both to get things straightened out, but looks like we're good for both nights.

either that, or i just got swindled out of 600 bucks.  :drum:

Glad you got in!!  Looking forward to seeing you guys.  Gonna be a big Jacket party!
thanks, man, scoring tickets can be so stressful sometimes. i think dave was mildly annoyed that i chose to try for prince tickets monday and missed out on the fan club sale.  but we're friends again.

a party it will be! just 147 days to go!

Got both my tickets from the venue presale.  Decent seats...cant complain, I got em and don't have to worry about it.  Plus, I don't think anyone wants to hear any complaining.  good vibes only.

Also got a room at the Georgian Terrace!  Stoked!

I too was able to get tickets for Both nights.
The seats are not what I would love to have but it is the fox. Really there is no terrible seat in the house. I'm happy i'll be able to go both nights.

Now ..... the wait.....

Sometimes someone will add people who just post they're going but to be sure you're on the roll call list you need to copy the list from the last post, add the next number followed by your name, then post it.

I am selling two tickets to the August 8th show at the Fox Theater.  I'm not trying to make a profit, so I am letting them go at face value, which was $112.35 with tax for both of them.

The seats are Orchestra Left Center, Row JJ, Seats 75-77.

They will be on sale until I post otherwise.

Hey guys/gals, I wanted to post on here and let everyone know about a pretty great deal on a nice hotel for these shows: I booked 2 nights at the Georgian Terrace hotel, which is just across the block from the Fox Theater, for $340 total. My fiance and I will be travelling with another couple, so this price is for a room with two queen beds. If you need less space, the rooms are much cheaper.

I used Orbitz to book this room. When I booked yesterday, I got an early booking 15% discount and then through some Google magic I found a code for an additional 15% off... that code is TAKEABREAK.

Anyways, I wanted to share so that people could take advantage. Oh yeah, did you know the Georgian Terrace has a rooftop pool?!?!?!?!? The pool will be an awesome place for a forum party!

Here's the link to the Orbitz booking page for the Georgian Terrace. (http://tinyurl.com/maxnhth)

And here's a google map view of the Fox Theater and The Georgian Terrace. (http://tinyurl.com/qgsryb9)

Yeah, I was thinking about that mystery this week, too.

Definitely looking forward to these shows. Only 2 night stand on this leg! If they're anything like the awesome shows in June, we're in for a big treat.

If anyone ends up with an extra for either night, I met a very nice woman on a flight a month or so ago and she's interested. She's a bit older and doesn't have friends willing to go with her (lame!). I told her I'd put out some feelers closer to showtime, so here I am...feeling

I have an extra three for Saturday night.  They are together in the third or fourth row balcony.  I can split one of those off if you only need a single.

I would have to meet you at the venue since I ordered them through the roll call presale.  I'm going myself but I bought some slightly better tickets through stubhub (first row balcony) since my ten year old will be with me and would have trouble seeing over someone.

Only asking face which was $62 per ticket.  Again you can buy all three, or I will break off a single and sell the remaining pair.

peace and love

I have 3 extra tickets for the Saturday night show.  They are excellent seats located section LRC on row FF.

This is the fifth row in the lower level dress balcony section.  I'm asking $60/ticket which is slightly less than I paid.  I can meet in Atlanta on the day of the show and am willing to break up the set of three tickets.

I will be attending both Friday night and Saturday night but no longer need these three extra tickets.

Please email me at mmjcobra@gmail.com or text me at 205-434-0405.

Thanks,
Rob

Hey guys, long time lurker here but I just signed up.

I couldn't be more excited for the upcoming Fox shows and my wife and I are coming up from Charleston for the weekend.  I bought my tickets when they went on sale but ended up with balcony seats both nights (good seats right behind the loge).

Anyway was hoping to get closer for one of the shows so if anyone has anything in the pit or inside of Row O of the the Orchestra hit me up and let's make beautiful things happen!

The Fox Theater just opened up more floor seats for both nights. I scored some for the Friday show and there are just few left over for Saturday which I thought was sold out completely. I had a feeling though. I went back and checked last night at 3:30 a.m. and there they were. I am so excited to be seeing them both nights. This will be my first multi-show experience! I can't wait! Wondering as well. I chatted with Gilt tonight and they have no idea, said it's all up to the Fox (I'm gonna call them on Wednesday).

And for anyone looking, I have ONE EXTRA TICKET for Friday. HOPING it will be PIT, but as you folks who bought through Gilt City know we're guaranteed to be Pit, Orch Row A or B or Lower Balcony row CC or DD.

I'll also be at Saturday's show, but no extra ticket that night. Can't wait. Hit me up if you wanna buy my Friday ticket.

This is the word from the Fox Theatre from an email exchange I had with them: "We will fill the seats when we have the list from Gilt City. Gilt City purchasers will know which seats they have 1 hour before the show when they pick them up from will call."

Add me to the list.  Finally sat down and listened to The Waterfall for the first time a couple weeks ago and I wanted to kick myself for not getting tickets months ago.  Got a lot going on right now so I wasn't going to try and make it to the shows... until I watched this year's Bonnaroo show.  My immediate response to my wife?  "We are going. We. Are. Going."  It's been a long time since I've been so excited to see a band because of their new music rather than their back catalog.

I've seen them twice before: 2002 opening for Doves and 2008 Fox Theater.  This one is long overdue and it will be interesting to see how much they've matured over the intervening years.

I expect the opener to go on around 8:00-8:10, 30 minutes set, MMJ on at 9:00. Probably get a 2-2.5 hours set. There's no noise curfew so who knows, maybe things will stretch out a little longer.

Anyone staying for the New Madrid aftershow at midnight? Do they have any connection with MMJ? Any chance for a drop in?

Such a wicked show. War Begun and Dondante were all time tops. I also think it was by far the most electric crowd I've witnessed this tour. I lucked out with front row center from roll call and when you looked back at the theater, everyone was out of their seats totally rocking out. Just wow!

And I took home anothe set list...

Long time lurker, MMJ show goer. Last night, front row balcony, I was witness to 5,000 human beings having their brains melted and they loved it. Seen a lot of shows at the Fox. Last night took the cake. The energy threatened to shake the Fox to rubble, fortunately it stood. Because they're going do it all over again tonight. I don't know how, but they will. I've got 10 hours to try and find my brain, or at least sufficient remnants thereof to cobble my brain back together so it can melt again. Front of Loge (balcony) sound was pristine. And loud. If you didn't go last night but are tonight, enjoy it. And make sure to finish today any difficult equations or physics problems you planned to solve on Sunday. Peace.

There's a bar under the same roof as the Fox called Public House which looked pretty decent from the outside.  I'm headed three blocks north on Peachtree to a place called Escorpion for tacos and tequila.  In the same direction a block or two is a good beer bar called World of Beer.

Great shows, both nights - here are the thoughts of one MMJ fan since 2001:

1) Loved the set list for Friday night - just amazing.

2) Hated the insertion of Only Memories Remain in the heart of Steam Engine. I like OMR, but I thought it ruined Steam Engine.

3) Finally got to hear O & Hell for the first time live...very happy.

4) Perhaps I'm just too old now (46), but this might be my last MMJ show. When I saw them in Atlanta back in 2002 (Magnolia Elec Co opened in a small club in East Atlanta), it was filled with people who wanted to see a great show. I just feel like over the years the crowds have become more and more people who simply want to be AT a great party - not necessarily into the show as much as being into being AT the show. Lots of talking if the song wasn't in full jam or one of the three they knew, frat dudes (I used to be one) and their hangers-on piling all their bros and dates who couldn't get good seats into their row - and I suppose just the general disregard for fellow concert goers. I must be coming off as a grumpy old fart - apparently I officially am.

I understand what you're saying, and Im only 26...seriously. I can't see why though that you'd hate Steam Engine being broken up into two parts for the first time ever! Even if the experiment didn't work its mind numbingly awesome :)

Crowd was really interesting.  I was sitting in the pit and talked to multiple people that somehow got several pit tickets in a row but haven't seen them live and didn't give a damn or bring any energy. A couple other guys were bragging about how they were gonna just "sit down and chill" all show.  Not a whole lot of love coming from people - save for a few very familiar faces that I've seen many times at OBH and other shows (probably included many of you guys and those folks were baddass by the way!!  They may have saved the show for us).  Then a guy refused to let me borrow his lighter for some weird reason and I nearly had a conniption.

All of that weird vibe kind of disrupted the band for a few songs - have heard others point this out too and it was obvious up front - but despite all of this, I have a new respect for the band because they got their shit together and snatched victory out of the jaws of defeat.  For that reason, night two will go down as one of the most memorable shows I've been to.  Not every night is going to be easy, shit will get in the way, people won't cooperate, but the boys can handle it
Title: Re: Roll Call Fox Theater Atlanta

a weird vibe, yes. that's probably why i enjoyed friday a bit more. people were there to see the band friday, saturday seemed to have plenty of people who were just there to be seen.

Dunno about the pit, but if you turned around and looked up either night, I think the Loge/Balcony was reciprocating. But I probably didn't have the best perspective from behind my eyeballs; they were acting squirrelly on me.
Title: Re: Roll Call Fox Theater Atlanta

Completely agree about the crowd, especially on Saturday. I kept looking around noticing that people were just in their own little worlds, often not paying attention. I think what has happened over the years is that MMJ have cultivated a very dedicated hardcore fanbase but have also gained a ton of 'casual' fans who know some songs but mainly go to the shows for the social aspect.

They're loss I say. These 2 shows were made for the real fans, plain and simple. Almost all of It Still Moves played over 2 nights, sign me up anytime. Also, that metal jam pre- Dondante is something special

I can honestly say that those were the 2 best shows I have ever been to in my life with major highlights coming out of both sets.

Fantastic shows & setlists! I loved the heavy Dondante on Friday and Saturday's Steam Engine! I actually thought the crowd wasn't as bad this time for an ATL show.  This was the best crowd (IMO) out of the past 5 ATL shows I've been to.  The Verizon Amphitheater shows have had terrible crowds over the past few years.

This ^^^

We were in the pit on Friday and everyone around me was totally into the show. Saturday we were about Row N and also had some great people around us. I guess it can be random depending on where you end up sitting.

I had a bigger issue with the crowd on the floor in Athens. Seemed like most of the people around me were there because they heard they should go see this up and coming band called My Morning Jacket. Sheesh.
Title: Re: Roll Call Fox Theater Atlanta
Post by: werduga on Aug 10, 2015, 08:42 AM
I also thought the crowds were good, although I was in the pit and the band was just feet from where we sat. I expected more from Athens considering it's such a small venue (I still loved the show, just not the best crowd) Those Verizon shows almost seemed lifeless compared to what I saw and felt at the Fox. Seemed like the whole crowd was on its feet dancing the entire show!
Title: Re: Roll Call Fox Theater Atlanta

I thought the crowd was really good but I was in my own little heaven, drawn into the magic being performed on the stage.  We are on the balcony so maybe that's the difference.  What an amazing set.  I mean, Going to Hell, Be There When You Die, and Masterplan just made the trip from Nashville totally worth it.  MMJ just continues to amaze me.

Now, I really loved the transition into and out of Steam Engine.  No, I wouldn't want it done all of the time but it caught everyone by surprise.  I feel MMJ is meshing so freaking good now that each show makes me think it couldn't get better than this.  But yet, they manage to always blow me away.

I really thought the crowd was amazing, especially Friday night.  One of the best crowds that I have personally seen.   The entire floor was moving and the balcony was amazing.  I had first row balcony seats both nights so it was easy to see it all.

Count me as super impressed with the Steam-Memories-Steam transition.  The transition out of Steam Engine was maybe too abrupt but Memories was tight and I really like the transition back into Steam.  I hope they take more chances like this in the future!!!

I personally like night 2 slightly better which is weird because night 1 has the better song selection.

Also the Steam>Memories>Steam Engine is one of the best thing I have heard them play in the over 30 shows and 13 years I have been seeing them live.

Also in response to the crowd. The change occurred more after Evil Urges came out imo. This was the same type of crowd that has been coming to MMJ shows since then. I personally don't let what a crowd is like effect my enjoyment of a concert. But understand it can be hard for people to get past. But I just could never stop seeing a band just because of the way a crowd acts.

Friday was a great, great show.  They guys have really improved over the years.  The crowd was super loud, though.  I was in row DD, right side of the orchestra, and there were many instances where the sound of people talking was drowning out the band.  This was easily the loudest crowd noise I've ever experienced at a concert, but being under the balcony overhang could have been amplifying it.

That said, it didn't really take away from how awesome the band was and everyone seemed to be really into it otherwise.  I loved the set, but I wish there had been a few more new songs; I would have loved to hear Compound Fracture, specifically, but I gotta give em props for making each show of the two-nighter unique.

Was down in row E, Center Carl side on the aisle.  Our row was into it both nights.  Night one, no one even left.  Night two there were two beer runs.  I got very lucky and I know it.

However, I know that chatting-fuckwits bother the snot out of me, so I wear ear plugs.  Not the big hunks of foam, but the very affordable etymotics.  For $13, these things block out the crowd noise.  Yep.  Filters it right out and helps save what's left of my hearing.  Don't let the chatting-fuckwits ruin your enjoyment.  Get some decent ear plugs and dance.

Athens crowd was terrible for people getting beer and moving around during the show. Also, a few pieces of trash pushing their way to the front. Cool it with the keg parties and just enjoy the show. Next time they'll all catch a rock bottom or stone cold stunner.

Amazing shows, night 2 was perhaps greatest MMJ I've been to, only complaints I had was the crowds. Lots of chatter.  During Steam Engine two ladies were sitting right behind us carrying on a loud conversation.  I will never understand why you go to a concert, 5th row, and do nothing but talk.  Didn't ruin the night at all but just annoyed the shit out of me.

Don't talk during shows folks.  If you do go the lobby and talk your freaking head off.

We were Jim side, orchestra row L, aisle both nights. We didn't end up with a ton of chatter near us, but did witness drama on the second night involving an older couple getting the ushers to kick out some young drunks for sitting in their row. Noticed a good deal of casual fans whom I would suspect were the talkers, however.

I didn't really care though, as the lady and I were dancing up a storm to two of the best sets I have witnessed since Roo in '08. So much face melting action, and we were loving every minute of it.

That's a great idea. Honestly I probably should have had a little more booze in me, was too easily annoyed by the fuckwits - which, by the way, they will be forever labeled, deservedly so, in my mind now thanks to you.

It was a great show. I still stand by not caring for the insertion of OMR into Steam Engine, but I'm apparently alone in that regard. That's what happens when you get old - you don't like change and you're easily annoyed. Something for you guys to look forward to.

Ha ha ha!  Sounds like me!  yeah get some earplugs designed for listening to music.  I am big on Westone Tru WR20s right now, they sound just as good as my custom-fit Etymotics and they are more comfortable and cost a lot less, around $30.  http://www.westone.com/store/index.php/tru-universal-tru20-smoke-3119.html

I have not tried the one-size Etymotics, though.

Unfortunately, this is almost un-listenable.
i just listened to the first half hour on the way home from work. definitely gotta turn the bass down, but other than that it sounds fine to me.  but i got the flacs, even my old ears can tell the difference in quality over mp3s.

audience recordings are what they are. and i'm not really interested in listening to shows i didn't attend. i download them as more of a souvenir/keepsake and don't really expect audiophile quality. just glad someone goes thru the trouble and allows me to re-live the night whenever i get the urge.
