Title: Portland Recording
Post by: yltfan on Jan 31, 2007, 05:31 AM
I have made lots of progress on my recording. It's all glued back together, now I need to track it and flac it, and it's ready to go. I can post it up on dimeadozen when it's ready--maybe tomorrow night. It sounds pretty good.

This was my first time seeing and taping them. Pretty good stuff, although I definitely could have lived without the lynyrd skynyrd dual wailing guitar jam, and the big arena rock light show.

Sorry to offend, but the whole mega-jam just isn't my thing...and the light show was just too big and coma-inducing for the venue, in my opinion. Or maybe I was supposed to be on drugs...

Anyway, are people interested in the tape? There has been pretty much no response since I posted about this a few days ago...I'm happy to move on to my next project: the amazing Menomena show with the 25-person choir! Anyone else catch that show?

(and Brian, what's up with that flag?)

Just to tease some of you, I posted an mp3 sample here (I think, first time doing badongo):

http://www.badongo.com/file/2137262

I will post it on dimeadozen. Hopefully some of you have dime accounts...if people want to post it to archive or somewhere else, that's fine with me, but don't ask me to, and please don't distribute it in mp3 or any other lossy format.

geez dude why don't just upload the show and go about your way to the land of no guitars, lightshows, or drugs.  I think it's pretty obvious that you were trying to offend someone but no one really cares what you think.  So do me a favor and don't post again telling us that you will at some point upload the show. Quit trying to make people beg and just do it.

btw, thanks for taping the show and do you think you could upload this to archive?
:P

I was trying to offend someone? I said I liked the show, but there were two little parts that bugged me. I wasn't trying to offend, just offering my opinion--no one told me that I wasn't supposed to do that here. I have put a lot of work into this tape--pasting it all back together was something I did not know how to do, and all the usual work of taping--recording, transferring, tracking, posting--is plenty. Maybe I was looking for a little appreciation...guess this was the wrong place to look for it. I was up half the night finsishing up the show, getting ready to share it. It's a good thing that most people aren't as ungrateful as you, there would be less music being shared...

Post by: aMD on Feb 01, 2007, 04:42 PM
your opinion is your opinion.  I do appreciate the time you put into taping and uploading the show I just don't think it's necessary to post five times before you upload the show tell us that you will someday have it up.  You'd probably receive more appreciation if you actually upload the show not just played this teasing game. When I open a thread that says Portland recording I expect to see a recording from portland not someone talking about what they don't like about the band.  That's my opinion.
Title: Re: Portland Recording
Post by: yltfan on Feb 01, 2007, 05:00 PM
Thanks for your opinion. I will try to never share mine again, since you don't want to hear it.

I kinda thought (judging from the other threads on this topic) that people were interested in where things were at with this recording. No one forced you to read anything.

If anyone in Portland wants copies of this, I burned a few, shoot me a message.

Anyone listened to the sample?

I just came back from lunch, and unfortunately, could not help mulling over this whole thing while eating...

aMD...it basically sounds like you are saying "give us your recording and shut the hell up". Is that how you really feel about this?

I find it interesting that you are willing to share your opinions on bands you hate (Death Cab for Cutie, Gwen Stefani) but are offended by my minor complaints about the MMJ show.

Also, it seems like you think I am screwing around with the tape. Not so. I have been working on it at home every night for the last couple nights, and then dragging my ass to work, where I can't work on the tape, but can come here to chat with you.

I am still committed to sharing this recording with people, but am becoming much less motivated to do the last hour or two of work needed on this. ugh

no man, I think you're reading too much into what I'm saying.  I would love it if you would upload the tape and so would a lot of other people.  I probably would have been more receptive to hearing the play by play of the uploading process if you hadn't been critical of the band first.  You're definitely entitled to your opinion.  The difference between that and me talking shit about gwen stephanie is that this is not her official forum.  If I registered a new user at the deathcab boards and started talking shit about them right off the bat, I might expect to catch some shit back.  But whatever, I'm over it, I hope you are. And I hope you upload that show.  Pretty please? I'd really appreciate it!  ::)

First off, thanks so much for being a part of the show, for taping it, all of your hard work in bringing it to us.

I had to leave the show early, and was unaware of the six-song encore complete with horns that ended the show. So understandably so, I have been slobbering over this one.

I think what's great about MMJ is how many styles and crowds that the band brings together. I saw all types of people with various musical tastes.

There's plenty of room on this forum (even though this is only my first post) for everyone's opinion.

I live in PDX and would love a copy of the show, thanks!

Dimeadozen is down until Tuesday (they are switching servers or something). Y'all are gonna have to wait.

And aMD, I am pretty much over it, but you should go back and read your posts--I don't think I'm reading too much into it. You said:

"I think it's pretty obvious that you were trying to offend someone but no one really cares what you think.  So do me a favor and don't post again telling us that you will at some point upload the show."

I agree--it does sound just like you heard it that night--muddy, too...
I was tempted to mess with the EQ, or try other stuff, but I resisted the temptation. I think it sounds fine, but I do think it's a bit muddy.

Anyway, glad you like.

I am surprised at how few downloads it's getting--by far my least downloaded show on Dime. Snatched only 29 times so far, whereas most of my other stuff is over 100, some much more...

I'm really interested in getting the show (as I was there and It was my first MMJ concert.) I can't seem to ever be able to get a dime account  :'( and I was wondering if someone could post a link to the file or something

You can't just give someone your torrent file from dime as they are specifically generated to match your account. You'll either have to keep trying for now or wait til someone puts it up on the archive. I'll be home in a few days and download it and post it to archive.

It took 5 days but it finally finished downloading from dime...
I uploaded this to the archive last night. yltfan, I had to rename your files and create flac fingerprints; it was necessary to comply with etree taping standards. Hope you're cool with that.

Thanks a bunch for getting this up there! No problem with renaming files, and it will probably get a bunch more attention on the archive (1 day on archive=35 downloads; 2 weeks on Dime=38 downloads) plus people were not doing a good job of sticking around to seed on Dime.

yea, it was showing no seeds when I got back from vacation earlier this week and I sat on it about a day and a seed finally showed... the archive will be a bit more accessable to get your tape out there further. Thanks again for taping!
