Title: Minneapolis
Post by: dondante24 on Mar 09, 2015, 02:40 PM
Anyone going? I'm planning to hit both nights, I've seen MMJ twice but never a full set so super psyched.

I haven't been to a show at Northrup since 2000, has anyone been there since they remodeled?

I plan on going to both nights of this.  Hopefully I can get the roll call tickets.

Any word on if this is a GA show?

I'll be there both nights as well. I don't think it will be GA. I've heard the remolded Northrup is really nice. Roll Call tix go on sale 3/23.

Was there for a Wier/Ratdog show last June or July and was AWESOME.....Sound is great and seating is outstanding. I dont see where they could pull any GA seating, but to me there wasnt a bad seat in the house.

Hoping to be there for both nights of this, but given the issues myself and others have had getting tickets I'll wait to state I'll be there.

Minneapolis works with our schedule, as opposed to most other shows, especially because it's on the weekend and thus worth the trip from Baltimore for 2 shows.  No home court MPP for me this time (saw all of their past 3 shows at MPP from the pit) because we'll be at Newport.

Good to here the positive reviews of the venue.  Not so good to hear the disaster of roll call presale for the other shows, however.  I hope they get the bugs worked out by the 23rd.

I'm hitting both of these shows (and the one in Waverly, IA the week before). In a matter of eight days I will go from never having seen Jacket live to seeing them three times.
Haven't heard anything yet on whether this will be GA, but from what I know about Northrop it will probably be assigned seating. Fortunately, we have the advantage of seeing how other pre-sales work out before it gets to the Minneapolis shows.

A buddy and I are coming in from out of town and staying in the Days hotel right off campus.  We only have reservations for Friday night and might head back after the Saturday show.  What's there to do all day on Saturday in Minneapolis?   Keep in mind, we are huge Packer fans and cannot be subjected to any Vikings crap or we will explode.  :)

Try checking out some of the awesome taprooms/microbreweries that are popping up all over town. I'm assuming you like beer since you are a Packer fan.

Here's a pretty good directory, you can actually hit up a bunch of them on the green line light rail that goes right through campus:

My favorites are Surly, Indeed, and Dangerous Man.

What's a good place to stay downtown or around campus?

Is downtown and campus area relatively safe?

We would like to catch a nice hotel they has a lot to do within walking distance.  Big fan of walking downtowns and cities to check the scope.  Don't want to get caught anywhere I shouldnt be.

sadly it seems that these shows aren't selling all that well so far...

'Availability' is listed as 'Good' for both nights, and you can still pull Orchestra Pit seats

Minneapolis in general is a pretty safe city compared to other metros it's size.

there's only one hotel on campus, but there's a couple not far away at 7 corners or along Washington Ave. as you go into downtown.

my research led me to the Commons hotel, which by no means was the cheapest but looked great and location couldn't be beat for the shows.

Can you drink there?  I read somewhere that you cant take alcohol to the seats...
Anyone that has been there know?

Edit:  I contacted Northrop directly and they confirmed that no alcohol is allowed in the venue.

The no alcohol thing kind of sucks...I guess that will at lease keep me out of the bathroom during the show

I recently saw the Decemberists at Northrup and can confirm that no drinks of any type were allowed in the theater.  There were alcoholic drinks available in the lobby, but there were long lines.  The Northrup is on the Univ of MN campus so they are pretty strict about the alcohol policy.  That being said, there are TONS of bars and restaurants near the Nothrup since it is a college area.

The theater has great acoustics, but the seating is a little weird. There are three and maybe even four tiers of balconies.  I think it would be an odd experience to watch a concert from one of the higher balconies.  Hopefully you all have floor seats, if not you might want to try to upgrade.  The theater is relatively small, but tall.

Someone earlier asked about walking and safety.  Minneapolis is a very safe city.

Perhaps we can find a spot to have a drink either before or after the shows to meet up.

Closest bars are probably Stub and Herbs in Stadium Village or Blarney Stone or Library in Dinkytown. Both about a 10 minute walk from venue.

I still can't believe Sally's is gone!

Any place MN locals like yourself or MMJ612 want to recommend for pre and post show meetings would be welcome.  And if there are any area must dos during the afternoon, feel free to recommend as well.

We will be in town for both shows and are interested in having some pre/post show drinks.  Still not sure where we are planning to stay, but would like to stay close to some walkable attractions.

Mpls is a great place to be in the summer. I highly recommend checking out Minnehaha Falls on Saturday afternoon and walking down the path to the Mississippi. There is also an amazing restaurant by the Falls called Sea Salt. I am happy to meet up with folks and play tour guide if people are interested and I will post some more options as we get closer.

I recommend the Loring Pasta for dinner before the shows, it's a very short walk from the theater. Annie's Parlor is also good and has outdoor seating and is cheaper than Loring. There is also a Five Guys Burgers, which I love.  Special note about the Loring: Bob Dylan used to live in the apartment above the Loring- true story.

For drinks within walking distance I recommend The Blarney, Kitty Kat Club, or Stub and Herbs. As we get closer, I can give more specifics as for a time and place to meet up before/after the shows for those interested.

I can't wait
