Title: Elvis Perkins
Post by: MusiKel Mama on Mar 09, 2015, 11:40 PM
I got turned on to this dude from a nice guy from OBH who worked with him.  He has a voice that just makes you forget your thoughts, and the lyricism is just so liquid that it sounds like a kid would sell it at a lemonade stand. It's music for music lovers and word nerds.  Bo also recommended his newest album I Aubade the other day.

Here it is on Spotify: https://play.spotify.com/album/7p3QlFcWPE50ihij4nC6e7 (https://play.spotify.com/album/7p3QlFcWPE50ihij4nC6e7)

Also, like so many New York intellectuals, he's got a really cool backstory:

I must have played his first album close to 100 times when it came out. I loved it so much. I liked the follow-up but it didn't hit me the his debut. Only listened to his latest once, thanks for reminding me I should give it a few more spins.

Only heard of him recently when The Districts tweeted about him. I liked what I heard of the new album, need to digest it more.

I'll check out the first one! Thank you!

I actually Elvis Perkins for the first time covering a Travelling Wilburys tune on this Dylan in the 80s tribute album...Carl, Tom and Bo play on the record, too. Check that out if you get a chance. I have had a lifelong aversion to 80s music, particularly if made by "60s" musicians...but I am trying to break out of that pigeonhole.  I think this compilation is a really great example of how Dylan in the 80's, still was/is timeless. The Perkins track is just magic.

And at T5.

The new record's not very good though :( Loved the first two.
