Title: Terminal 5 Redux
Post by: dontgetupset on Jul 07, 2015, 11:34 AM
Good morning.

Since the "Shows" board has been quiet I'd like to throw a question out there. This question stems largely as a result of the regret I have that I only was able to go to 2 nights of T5 in 2010:

If the boys announced another NY/LA/Kentucky based 7 night stand with each album in full would this cheapen the experience of 5 years ago or would it be greeted with pure ecstasy from those that read these posts?

It would be awesome if those shows stand alone for decades to come as super-unique one-time-only experiences but OTOH there are multitudes of new fans and 5 years is a long time in the music world.

Alternatively, what about if OBH3 had 3 performances of ISM/Z/AD/TTF (are these normally abbreviated like this)?

Discuss. Thanks

The boys frequently remarked of the challenge to do T5, as many tunes were never played live before, many were never played live by Carl and Bo, and they had to rehearse for 99 different songs (they played 100 songs over 5 days, but OBH was played twice- during the ISM show and closing the EU and Beyond show).  I think a 7-show live album run is unlikely, as 5 years is not that long ago and it wouldn't seem such an original idea.

John: Point well taken. These guys are creative enough that they can find some way of partially recreating the T5 magic in another setting. I'm kinda waiting for the day when I check this forum and see that the night before they played At Dawn in its entirety in random city C ala http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/pearl-jam-play-entire-no-code-debut-new-song-at-moline-concert-20141018 .

Port Chester and Chicago (less than a month ago- wow) had their own greatness but the combination of having some of those songs played live for the only time in history and those RIDICULOUS choices in the covers for the encore really are gonna always make me regret (inexplicably) not going to more than 2 of those shows. So stupid.

either release these guys, or release OKONOKOS II, a set of carefully chosen Evil Urges songs, Circuital songs and rarities / oldies not addressed on OKONOKOS (i.e Come Closer, They Ran, Smokin From Shootin, Honest Man, War Begun, Phone Went West)

Are you staying they take the Terminal 5 recordings and cherry pick some songs/covers and turn that into Okonokos 2. Because.....that would be amazing (in the event that they don't want to release the full 5 nights).

I'D LOVE THAT!!! i didnt think of that! thats whats great about this forum, everyone has great ideas about MMJ and we can come together and make things happen (see: Okonokos Project) :) what a beautiful buzz :)

I hope Terminal 5 gets a standalone COMPLETE release, cause lets be honest, MMJ have the most definitively brilliant discography of ANY musical act since REM.....no other band's been THIS consistent, and T5 would be a great way to bolster people into buying the old records. But lets hope and pray for OKONOKOS II by itself consisting of recordings (not T5) from 2008-2012 and then Terminal 5 by itself hahaha. LETS GET GREEDY HERE! ;)
