Anyone hear anything about the rumored Philly shows for November?
It sounded like they were going to happen but I haven't heard anything lately. Thought for sure we'd get an announcement after Camden but nothing yet.....
Don't mean to be greedy with the East Coast getting Boston, and NYC but sure like to see them in Philly again, or if not, make some plans to hit up someplace else.
Any word would be appreciated.
I approve of this yet to be confirmed Philly show  I wonder what venue they would play?
I would love to see them at the Electric Factory again!
Saw them there in the December '06 (one and only time I got to see "I needed it most")
Meh. Not a huge fan of the Electric Factory. I don't really like the layout, no tailgating in the lot & security was trained by the Gestapo. I'd much rather it be at Union Transfer but it's probably too small. Do they wall off the amphitheater at the Mann like they have in the past at Camden?
Most likely it would have to be at Wachovia.
If it's in November. The other places are probably to small now for them.
Johnny Brendas would be amazing!!!
But I actually do like electric factory for a winter show... Not much tailgating action going on any where in NYC in the winter shows either. I just rather a small bar venue to see them instead of a stadium.
Absolutely agree on the bar type environment over a huge venue. The last few shows I saw at UT were spectacular. I haven't met a single person who doesn't love that place. Seeing J Roddy at the UT was a friggin blast
A fall winter date would likely be played at The Tower Theatre (~3k cap, slighlty larger than The Orpheum in Boston).

That was the venue I heard mentioned when I first heard the Beacon, and Orpheum rumors/dates. Those shows proved to be more than just rumors but nothing as of yet confirmed for Philly. I thought maybe they had to wait until after the XPN Fest at Camden but still nothing.

Ha, no worries. Their fan base would need to practically double for that to happen
They have played The Garden...
MSG is a whole different animal (and was NYE for MMJ). Bands regularly play MSG and tour theater's / amphitheaters throughout the rest of the country. For example, Alt-J recently played MSG. Death Cab For Cutie and Faith No More have upcoming MSG dates. Those bands are not playing arenas throughout the rest of the country.
It's possible MMJ could get there one day, but they will still need some substantial growth to be playing arenas, even in major cities.
I gotcha...
I much rather be where we are now though.
Union Transfer is one of my favorite venues, plus a nice bar (Llama) right across the street. But I would say its a little small these days, but would be awesome none the less.
If it happens - it will surely be when I am on my Caribbean cruise. I am attempting however to hit a couple NYC shows. I'm working on it.

OK. Everything else I wrote still holds true.
I sure hope they make an announcement soon!!?? I thought they were going to do a 3-night run at the Tower in early November? If not I definitely need to get to the Beacon. In my pre-having a child life I would already have tickets but now I can only go to a select few shows so I've been holding out. Booo.
Inside info told me that the 3 night run was scaled back to one night. And as recently as red rocks I was told Nov 19th at the Tower. Surprised it has yet to be announced.

Bummer! I was really hoping for a 3 night run but even two shows would've been great. One is better than nothing though. I wonder if the added shows at the Beacon still having some tix available played into Philly getting scaled back?
I might have to skip this in favor of a weekend double shot road trip to Boston if the 19th is the actual date. The dates I heard for the Philly shows were the weekend before.
I hope there is more...
But I will take the one night
Yeah Eric, I was told the weekend before as well. In fact I already bought plane tickets. My dad and 3 brothers are in Philly so I planned a family trip around those dates. Their calendar is still wide open in Nov.
Please let this happen! Doesn't look like we can make the Beacon so this would be an acceptable substitute

I hope it's not too costly to change your plane tickets if it is the 19th (and I trust you and your source so I'm keeping the Tower on my calendar for November). Maybe they'll announce a Philly show in conjunction with another show or two in the mid Atlantic..... DC would be nice!

Wow we need to get you another fix soon Raine Cloud! :) I'm in withdrawal too. Only saw them twice this tour so far.
I have a fever!! And the only cure is MORE MMJ!!
I so hope it gets announced. I'm getting worried the more time that passes.

I guess it's not looking so good. I'm in the hopeful but worried camp as well since MMJ usually announce shows way in advance. My fingers are crossed for news after the long weekend.

It is a good venue. Just a shame the show is a one off and not part of a multi night run.
That said, every show I've seen them do in Philly has been outstanding so I'm figuring this one will be too.
Really hope I can fit this one into the schedule, need another show to round out the year

Looks like the whole thing is GA. Floor is divided in two, with the front half GA Pit. Back half standing GA, and even the balcony is a seated GA/first come first served.

This is essentially correct. The balcony and the back half of the lower level are GA, but they're all seats....lower level, too. Just grab an open one wherever.
As for the pit/front half of the lower level, they limit the amount of people they'll allow in there, so show up early. (Strand of Oaks is a solid opener anyway.) I made the mistake of skipping the opener last time I was at Tower and the pit was maxed out - no one allowed in, even with people coming out.

Yes, I misspoke a bit there. The back half of the floor is a seated GA, first come first served like the balcony.
NOOOOOO!!!!
Logged in at 10:30am... And SOLD OUT ALREADY??
refreshed 100 times... Got 2!
Phew
I wasn't near a computer at the time. :-(
I'll just wait for the public sale.
Anyone have a seating chart for this that indicates that it's GA or is it like the Moore, where the seats are GA on the floor (First come, First serve)?
W
Interesting. The Tame Impala show is also first-come first-served, I've never heard of this at the Tower.
Do you lose your seat if you get up to get a beer or go to that bathroom?
Oh wait. I don't do that at MMJ shows. :cheesy:
Regardless, I hope I'm in the GA Pit!!

It's up on the Live Nation site. Basically the front 1/2 is a standing GA Pit. The back 1/2 is a seated GA, first come first served, and the balcony is also seated, first come first served.

They've been doing GA show at the tower for the past year or two. When i saw the War on Drugs earlier this year it was GA/first come first serve. Last year I saw Haim there (won tix) for GA. Not sure if the was first come first serve though.

Cool. Did you prefer it over assigned seating? How do they do 1/2 GA standing when there are seats pretty close to the stage? Maybe it's not permanent seating.
Stupid questions, it doesn't even matter! Too much coffee for me. See everyone in two months!
I never miss MMJ in Philly, but since I moved to Chicago and am not going to be back in Philly til the following week for Thanksgiving, I sadly will miss this most likely epic show at Tower!!! Don't worry though, I'm sneaking out to Seattle for the 2 night run and getting one of the NYC shows in while I'm on the east coast for the holiday.... everyone enjoy that Philly show and dance a little extra for me please!!
I haven't missed a philly show in a whlie but can't make it to this one. Have fun peeps.

Good question. I kinda did like it over assigned seating. I think they cut people off from entering the GA/pit area after a certain amount of people or something.

Already in the works, I have a meeting with the manager there later this week!
Two more weeks. Hopefully they will rehearse some deep tracks at the Tower in prep for the Beacon shows. Even though it's a one nighter, it's possible we'll hear some rare stuff considering they played Philly a few months ago.

Yes, definitely bummer, Eric. I gave Ghosts your number as he might be interested.

Sweet!
Given the comments i have read in the past about how hard Remnants is on Jim's voice (the apparent reason it's never played), I would be surprised to see it again in such a short time span.. however if it does happen NYC makes the most sense given how much ground they need to cover.

THANKS!!!
Very cool and smooth transition from Hopefully to River last night. Unfortunately during Hopefully many people decided to have some loud conversations.
Touch Me Part 2 was particularly great, and I thought a possible show ender. Then Jim got his flying V, and I was sure it was OBH time. But then Remnants. I'm a huge fan of that song and was so happy to hear it not because it's rare but because it just rocks. Jim's voice was fine on it. They ended with OBH with Jim playing a black guitar that he never uses for that song.
A ton of Waterfall songs which sounded great as usual. Masterplan was stellar!
touch part 2 was amazing. brought the house down.

Very cool and smooth transition from Hopefully to River last night. Unfortunately during Hopefully many people decided to have some loud conversations.
Touch Me Part 2 was particularly great, and I thought a possible show ended.

I was thinking the same thing about Touch me and then about the V coming out based on all of the past shows. Was awesome to get Remnants though as its one of my favs of that album and since it never gets played which is a shame. Masterplan, Hopefully, and Hell were my other high lights. Was a really great set list last night, now I'll be jonesing till next year's run.
What a great night. They never stop amazing me. Have to say that was the best I have heard touch me part 2. Remnants was incredible! Crazy, that a night without, Dondante, PWW, Steam, Run Thru, Gideon, Anytime, Lay Low, Dancefloors... And still I left fulfilled. Fuck they are awesome!!
Great job boys
I hope u bring the same energy to New York this week!
Anyone got a picture of the poster?

random thought.....but what about Remnants -> End of Lay Low to end a show?? seems like they would go together pretty well
