Haven't seen this posted yet, but Pitchfork just linked to a new solo Jim song for an upcoming movie called "No Escape".

I love it. Jim consistently blows my mind. To me this sounds nothing like anything he's ever done before and it's a conglomeration of like 16 different awesome sounds. And it's for the soundtrack of a movie that doesn't even look that good

I usually need to go through new songs a few times to really get a grasp on what I think by any artist. But anything this band or Jim alone has done the last few years hasn't taken me more than two listens to legitimately like. I really enjoyed this through the first listen. Anyone have any info as far as how much Jim is on the recording? As far as what did he play I mean. Or any info on who else is on the track. I know he usually does just about everything on demos, and even some final cuts. I really dig the swinging tambourine near the end. Little things like that matter to me for whatever reason.

Can those of you better at English and hearing lyrics help a poor woman out?

This is what I got so far (some of it probably wrong):

Hold me tender, love me true
Love me ?? and I'll take care of you
?? I cry
Finally a way to be satisfied

'Cause I know, there's a better way things could go
Then I know, well I knew I'd take care of you

I saw a river, finally home
Found a place to call ??
Damned if I don't, damned if I do
But I won't ?? , I'll take care of you

'Cause I know there's a better way things could go
And I know, well I knew I'd take care of you
I'd take care of you
Take care of you
Take care of you
I'll take care of you
Take care of you
Take care of you
Take care of you

Reminds me of that instrumental track (can't remember what it was called or what context) that came out sometime before the first solo album. Like it a lot after the first few listens, just wish it was longer.

Good song!

Released today on iTunes... And of course it's the only track you can't buy without purchasing the whole album. Ugh

I think the guitar parts sound a bit like "Nothing To It" by The New Basement Tapes. It has the same kind of tone, and some of the phrasing sounds similar.

There's one particular riff that I couldn't put my finger on - that's it!

This is what I got so far (some of it probably wrong):

Hold me tender, love me true
Love me DARLING, I'll take care of you
ALL ALONE &  ALL I cry
Find a way to be satisfied

'Cause I know, there's a better better better way things could go
Then I know, well I knew knew knew I'd take care of you

I saw a river, finally home
Found a place to call home

Take care of you
I'll take care of you
Take care of you

the only thing i couldn't update with certainty was
"But I won't ?? , I'll take care of you"
Sounds like he says "But I wont fast doll, Ill take care of you", but that makes no sense

I hear a mix of the riff from Nothing to It as well as Believe. It's the tone Jim has been hitting on a lot of their newer recordings when he busts out little solos.

good tune but some of that vocal stuff he has been doing is starting to wear on me.
I thought it was a phase but he continues to do it more and more.

What do you mean? Reverb? What other tracks are you comparing to?

nothing to do with reverb.
diction maybe. enunciation.  I don't sing.

did anybody notice the 'Believe" guitar run as well?  Must have been a demo from around the same time.  Pretty cool

Ok, it actually took me several listens to get into but I'm there. There are definite similar sounds from the new basement tapes, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I like it quite a lot, Sara. It's steel guitar,  and lyrics of being a guy who sticks around are quite nice.

It's that like deep voice thing. I can't explain it. Assuming this is what he's talking about

Thanks, CC!

I saw this yesterday.  Including action-packed scenes, some dialogue and sound, detracts from the gentle quality of Jim's song, but good to see his work reaching a broader audience.

I'm getting the same vibe from it. @justbecuzido, it reminds me of the beginning to A New Life starts. I'm not too high on it.

Do you notice a huge difference when you listen to your pono, Mr. White? Just wondering. I have no intentions of purchasing one.

Great Response Mr White! I have been on the fence with a Pono myself. For audiophile systems, I think it always boils down to your sound will only be as good as the weakest link. You can have the best Speakers/Amp/Preamp, but use a crappy turntable or not so great stylus (or any variation of this) and you will be limited to what the worst thing is. This is especially true with the files (MP3 vs FLAC etc).

Also, I love the ATH-50X headphones. I use them when I listen to vinyl or playing guitar. They are really popular with musicians I know. Also, for the price, I personally think they better than any in the class they are in ($200-$300 price range). I also use a headphone amp and it takes my listening experience to the next level, though I only use the headphone amp for at home listening.

Interesting to read, Mr. White. I had wondered. As I'm starting to notice that my hearing isn't as great as it use to be, I have my doubts that I would be able to notice the difference enough to make it worth it, but if you have the ears for it, it sounds lovely.
