Dear sir,
No disrespect to the tapers but it all starts with FOH mix. Giving full credit for sonics to the person who captures the show with audience mic's is ridiculous.

hes just being nice man.....
Whatever Dood I don't really give a fuck about being technical but its an awesome recording and if you're upset by that I don't know what to tell you. You think I don't know those things? I do I'm just giving credit where it's due considering the front house mix wasn't that good from my closr proximity to the stage and so what I was saying was that Zaphod got a perfect recording so now I can hear things even clearer than they were during the show. Don't wanna step on your ToogansSnoogans but yeah....
And another thing its ALL on the taper to capture the energy and the atmosphere and Zaphods tapes are full of that and whatever is said based on technicalities doesn't matter to me. I guess im ridiculous but would I have it any other way? No sir

were all on your side man. i know im new here, but in my personal opinion the jackets music and the culture around the jacket is about loving everyone and getting along. so thats what most of us will continue to do!!!
i didnt think anyone was not on my side, I just didnt get why that was necessary, that comment by Tooghans earlier. Didnt really anger me or something it was just like...Huh? Whaaa??
Sorry, but toogans is right. If you like how the show sounded, you should be complimenting the guy who mixed it. Anybody can point a couple mics at the PA and push record.
If I took a photo of the mona lisa would you tell me you loved my art?

You know I wasn't going to even chime in on this, but you guys are seriously short-sighted.
Yes, the FOH engineers deserve all the credit for the quality of sound. But shit, at least I didn't record this on my fucking iPhone.
Anyway, glad for everyone who truly appreciates the recordings, it's becoming much more of a lost art with the advancement of technology.

Lost art?
Micing, recording and mixing a band is an art. Micing a PA is like pointing a camcorder at a movie screen.
It's cool, I am clearly not going to change your opinion. But if you don't give 2 shits about audience recordings why say anything at all?
I am just grateful that their FOH crew is top notch and that they allow taping and sharing of the shows.

yeah why even listen to boots of bands if its not good enough for you or something? like i dont understand why people are even bitching when taping a band takes time, effort, planning and a lot of know how. Its not that simple, Rex and if you knew anything about taping, you'd know that. Pretty fucking rude to say the least when you've most likely been listening to this Vegas show or the Complex show for the last week...well it was Zaphod's hard work you're listening to.
Of course in your mind, you're gonna say No its the band im listening to! Well DUH, but someone has to put in the time, effort and skill to deliver this bliss to your ears secondhand, without Zaphod this show's not available, or Vegas.
Zaphod bro, it just shows, if you have the first night, dont post publicly on here, some people don't deserve it
if your photo of the Mona Lisa actually captured its beauty from up close in person and somehow resembled that, id fuckin thank you for your effort in capturing it...THATS what Zaphod and every taper does....they capture it....if its not enough effort for you, next time you can be the one to tape it...right?
Tapers help music reach a larger audience, and thats a wonderful thing that deserves thanks. But you can't give a taper credit for a show sounding great, only for faithfully reproducing a show that sounded great because of the band and their crew. Some people may not think there is a difference, but I do.
No offense to tapers, or anyone else intended.
Well that's your opinion and while that's all fine brotha I just feel like it sounded a tad...i dunno, fuckin really spoiled or something like you're getting access to a show his efforts, in capturing the band, spawned, let alone that back in the 70s a show that may have been hoarded instead of shared.
I've been listening to bootlegs since I was 12 and i may only be 25, but my collection is vast and there's some awful tapes out there, too. But Zaphod's have atmosphere, they capture the experience perfectly, and to me, I could hear the band a lot clearer on every note that was played better on the tape than it was at the show. Two different amazing experiences of the same happening. They capture that front house mix perfectly that maybe was not going good to my ears during the show, because of the Complex's shitty acoustics / lack thereof. The tape makes it seem like it was recorded at a private soundcheck at Red Rocks or something, it's awesome. He did a fantastic fucking job, it's a very clear tape. It still rings clearly on shitty laptop speakers with the volume halfway on, seriously, and I've blasted this in my stereo in my car and it's wonderfully done and also Mixed, Compiled and everything by Zaphod too. That shit's a lot of work as well, even with technology. We're talking time, effort, skill.
I respectfully disagree BrothaRex, sorry if I came on heavy, Its been a hard day at my shitty fucking office job and though Im thankful to have a job, its stressed me out and made me a little short tonight, I apologize
No worries, I'll make sure to bring this next time to capture the evening:

While MMJ continues to not release every show they play/record on livedownloads, then aud recordings are all we have. I don't think anyone is unappreciative of MMJ's sound crew/engineers and the effort they put in to ensure an awesome sounding show.

hahahahahahahah!
I think we risk losing out on the sonic experience of live music based on where we sit, who we sit with, what chemicals we put in our bodies, and the shape of the venue.
The Front of House sound engineer uses data to create a balanced sound that tries to take some of those things into consideration, but if we want to be up close to get fingered by Jim or catch a pick after the show, we may not hear the best mix.
Tapers, who are welcomed by this band and its crew, have the opportunity to pick and choose location and equipment that may capture a show better than one's own ears could, due to all the above factors.
Thanks MMJ for the music! Thanks Ryan and crew for the sound! Thanks Alex and all the tapers for the recordings!
Long live My Morning Jacket! God bless the tapers!
There were just some things I felt needed to be said cause negativity was coming from outta nowhere all based on personal preference and opinion but in disguise as absolute fact. Just wanted people to chill and be thankful for Alex's effort
No hard feelings to anyone on here especially Tooghans and Rex who probably hate me right now. We're all a big Jacket Family on here. I lost myself a little and didn't mean any disrespect but felt there was some disrespect aimed at Zaphods tape that was all that got me going regardless of opinion etc
By the way the Dondante on this is just. ...Jesus talk about an amazing first Dondante!
