Let's start discussing the other bands on your list to see at this fabulous festival. I am stoked to see Parquet Courts, Strand of Oaks, At the Drive-In, Bloc Party, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Shakey Graves, Houndmouth, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and All Them Witches for the first time. ALways looking forward to MMJ headliner (show #13 for me) and Jane's Addiction (saw them last in 1991, ugh 25 years ago).
I'm placing bets on a spectacular Steam Engine during MMJ's set...
Any chances for collabs? Maybe Strand of Oaks? Maybe Eagles of Death Metal?
This is a nice lookin fest. Phosphorescent, Explosions in the Sky and Head and The Heart too!
I'm putting myself down as a maybe. I have a feeling the setting will be a lot bigger than in years past. But Foals is back so I am stoked!

Strand of Oaks for me is one I am dying to see. Cold War kids!!!! Explosions on the sky! Young the giant. Actually every band I'm pretty excited about. This is a crazy lineup.
I've been to the first 3 SK, so I'll be there! Note to all newbies; it always rains in Atlanta during this festival. Dancing to Jim's solo set at the first SK was the only thing that kept me from turning into popsicle!

What is this festival like? I know its a city fest which I'm not entirely fond of to begin with.
What are curfews like? Does the music end super early?
Is there any sort of late night scene around the city? I've never been to Atlanta so not sure what time it usually shuts down.

They announce the late night shows closer to May. The fest ended at 10 or 11, and many venues around the city had bands starting at around midnight. This is the fourth year of the fest, and the location has moved to different spots in Atlanta every year.

I personally dig what SK has down the past 3 years. They always have a good mix of the whole spectrum of rock and roll and I've never had any problems in the past finding a familiar or completely new band to check out. It usually ends around 11 with "Late Night" affiliated shows at smaller venues all over town. Last year I was able to catch Portugal the Man at Masquerade and Built to Spill at the Earl (capacity is around 130 I think). Shaky Knees has changed locations each year, but its at Centennial Park in the middle of downtown which means transportation, food, and hotels are within walking distance.

It's probably my favorite city fest. I attended the last 2 SK's. Last year's location was near perfect. Plenty of shade and not too much walking. My only complaint about the venue was that the only close option for food were the food trucks. The lines were insane and many of them ran out of food.
The year before that the location was not so great. It was asphalt parking lots and hot as balls, when it wasn't a downpour. But the stage setup was nice, and there were many other food options in Atlantic Station so that you did not have to wait for the food trucks.
I think the location at Centennial Park this year will give us the best of both worlds. Lots of green space, some shady areas, and even more food options outside the venue.
I will say that I have really enjoyed the people at this festival. It is a little younger than some of the others I go to, but most folks are there for the music. This makes all the difference in the world. The music lineup is usually right up my alley (although this year seems to cater to the younger crowd) and I live in the suburbs, making the commute real easy.
I also attended Sweetwater 420 Festival and Music Midtown in past years and think SK is a FAR better experience.
i think they had to shift to the younger crowd to meet their ambitious growth targets for attendance. There's still plenty to like on the schedule but I don't think it's as "concentrated good stuff" for my taste as years past. That said, you'll only catch 1/3 of the acts anyway.

This will be my first MMJ show can't wait!!
Schedule will be released tomorrow even though we know MMJ will be closer on Saturday
Awesome. That lineup Saturday is crazy.
schedule is out. Tough conflict for me with Foals overlapping MMJ. I wasn't picturing anything overlapping the headliners, not to mention the band I second-most want to see that weekend.

Right there with you. Foals was one I really wanted to see. The schedule actually sucks the entire weekend, lots of overlapping. Glad Strand of Oaks is at least on same stage.
Foals are amazing. That conflict is brutal, and I feel your pain. I'm not going to SK this year, but if I were that would be an issue (one in which MMJ would win out, but I'd hope to see the beginning of Foals' set and then sprint to MMJ).

yeah that made me feel so much better. I was actually leaning towards watching all of Foals and missing the first 30 mins of MMJ. Blasphemous to imagine I'd ever be thinking like that, but yes I was. but now I will go to the late night show and miss the end of Festival Foals for a full MMJ set.
Explosions in the Sky also have a late night set. I wish I were going this year. And I bet it won't even rain for a change..... then I'll really regret missing it.
Does any one know if these late night shows sell out? Tix still available at doors?
I got Foals and Explosions. I would think they sell out fast but no clue

Some will sell out before, but most won't and you'll be able to grab tickets at the door. That said, we were shut out for Deer Tick a couple of years ago (but hoped in a cab to catch Roadkill Ghost Choir and New Madrid). Last year we went to Portugal The Man one night and Built to Spill the next night and both of those sold out pretty quickly. Tickets on the secondary market were super expensive. If you see a show you want to attend I'd go ahead and buy tickets. I picked up J Roddy for Thurs and Foals for Friday so it won't interfere with MMJ sat night. LOTS of good options though!
The event is named after the My Morning Jacket song "Steam Engine," and on May 14, the Jim James-fronted Kentucky band will make its first-ever Shaky appearance (James played the inaugural festival in 2013 when it was held in what devolved into a mud pitbehind the Masquerade). Sweetwood has plans for "something special" to coincide with MMJ's performance.

I sure hope Sweetwood has something up his sleeve for MMJ! I was in that mudpit dancing my ass off in 45 degree rainy weather. Coldest and wettest I've ever been, but worth every freezing second!

I would hesitate to click on any links, etc. There are some "streaming" scams out there. If its not mentioned on the Shaky Knees website, its probably bogus. Be careful...
EDIT: I scoured their site... no mention of a live stream. I've also emailed them. Stay tuned.
EDIT #2: Shaky Knees responded to my email... no official streams.

Hey guys, I am going to Shaky Knees with a guy who has a extra VIP ticket for Saturday. Originally $250ish, I think he's trying to recoup half of that if possible. We could meet you outside the festival around 1PM. You can e-mail him at flash_281@hotmail.com if interested
Here is a short blurb about last nights performance.

Cool to see that there are still journalists that have clearly never seen them perform, and listen to their awe through their words.
Hope there will be a recording of this show that pops up or any vids besides the purple rain cover. Steam Engine was insane with the confetti.

Yep, that was us. I think we were right behind y'all to the left.
