At this point, I don't mind when artists sell their songs for advertisements. When I hear Spoon's 'You Got Yr Cherry Bomb' in a Dr. Pepper commercial, I'm happy. With how the music industry has changed the past few years, when a band I love gets a chance to make money, I'm happy for them.
And at times, licensing a song or two for a commercial is a tradeoff bands / artists have to make. Robert Smith of The Cure had to license 'Pictures Of You' for an Australian commercial in exchange for the label releasing the Connect The Dots b-side compilation.
