Here's a blurb Jim released on Facebook
ETERNALLY EVEN
OUT NOVEMBER 4
PRE-ORDER SEPTEMBER 23
I wanted to make an album that hopefully speaks to the issues of the day, many of which, sadly, are issues we have been dealing with since the beginning of time. Most of what I think about right now is how so many things in the world are SO fucked up- our political system is broken and corrupt...our earth is being destroyed by climate change...people are not treating each other with equality and respect... and I think- are we going to make it? Are we going to figure it out and fix it before it's too late? Can we ever truly open our hearts and embrace love in all its beautiful forms? I think it's still possible. I still have hope in humanity. I'm just trying to be a part of the discussion and encourage people to speak out for equality, to not be afraid to speak out for peace and love. All of us feel afraid at times in these absolutely insane times, but its important we speak our minds, cast our votes, and do not give in to fear and hatred.

Just made this day a whole lot better! Can't wait to hear it!
Is there a ticket limit for the Roll Call presale? I'm trying to get 7

....there sure are some hateful people in the comments of his Facebook post. People will say negative things about anyone unfortunately. I'm positive if Mr. Rogers himself posted an opinion on the internet today even he would have a few angry comments trying to bring him down.
That's the reason I got off fb. I was tired of seeing negative shit constantly. I haven't missed it at all.

Do you guys say the name of the album in your head like "Forever Equal" or like Snagglepuss?

F'n Wonderful Union:
First off, $30 for the vinyl?
"Vinyl purchasers will receive a digital copy of the album on release day, Friday, November 4th. Estimated vinyl ship date: 12/16"
Unless there is a big delay on getting all the vinyls pressed this is just ridiculous.

I mean i'm assuming record stores/amazon will have physical copies available for purchase the day of release right? I can't imagine many people will choose to pre order if this is the case...
I will never order from wonderful union again. Why the band continues to use them is beyond me. I'll order from Amazon and get free shipping with actual customer service.

Its sad. Jim's website store, via Wonderful Union, has the LP for $30, add $15 for a signed copy, and the cheapest shipping is $7. Then, there are other "fees"? If I had preordered the signed vinyl from his web store, the total was $54.54! That is criminal.
Amazon doesn't have it listed yet, but I signed up for an email alert when they do have it available to order.

Last minute and a half is pretty darn great. Not so sure about the first four and a half.
I was expecting six minutes of batshit awfulness after reading some of these comments but man, this is a damn cool song! I've never heard Jim's vocals sound so restrained. Pretty cool that after over 15 years recording, we can still get completely new sounds out of Jim! I dig! Very refreshing production too. Like nothing I've heard before.
Also interesting to see that the eastern-sounding pseudo-sax-synth sound thing has carried over from Regions.

I agree. I dig it. If the whole album is like this I'll be bummed, but I'm sure Jim has some cool shit in store on this one.
Awful. I have enough stuff signed by Jim so I'll just buy from my local store.

The cost is part of the problem. The other part is that if someone receives a defective/creased item, it seems like the customer service is totally lacking (they don't seem willing to replace the damaged item or try to make good in any way).
I agree oistheone..... damn cool song. It's totally stuck in my head. I like the beat.
Jim's voice is so powerful, that this whispering style is a total departure. And the last minute and half, which reminds me of Regions of Light, is totally different than the first four minutes of the song. I believe this is the first song with a curse word in the lyrics. Or am I forgetting a song? So a lot of contrasts compared to his other work (both MMJ and solo).
I bet the other eight songs on the album are totally different than this one. I can't wait to listen and find out on Nov 4. JJ..... constantly evolving and doing new things and creating new sounds and being sincere. I love it.
I think the song matches his statement about the album dealing with issues of the day and the release date basically coinciding with the coming election. Same Old Lies seems a bit simple but some of my favorite songs like Only Memories and Wonderful are simple but undeniably awesome. Looking forward to hearing the album!

You're welcome, but to be fair, I had no idea that he was saying "shit" in that song until I read the lyrics in the recent remix of ISM.

Digging it. In terms of first singles, it took me longer to warm up to A New Life. I still haven't warmed up to Big Decisions from The Waterfall.

Could be why they stopped playing it already. Also, it's a song co-written with someone else, so maybe Jim doesn't feel it as well cause it's not all him.

Totally with you on this.
Big Decisions is disadvantaged by being the first track from a new album, so there was a lot of pressure on it. lots of expectations heaped upon it. I was there for its debut in Mexico/OBH2, and played it repeatedly until we got more of the album to digest. I can't say its my favorite, but its a hell of a lot better than some of the pap that's put out by other so-called rock bands. It reminds me of how I feel about I'm Amazed. Both BD and IA were sometimes awful played live, other times epic.

After four listens, "Here In Spirit" is blowing me away. The track is taking me places both musically and spiritually. And I'm listening to it at work.
The first two singles off EE are leading me to believe I will dig this album immensely.
Love the EDJ Minor Miracles sample.
Lesgooo!! Loved Here In Spirit when I first heard the live recording. Studio is just as good as I expected. This album is going to be amazing.

maybe it'll be different after i see it live.
Good lord, "True Nature" and "In The Moment" might be the flat-out funkiest back-to-back Jim's ever put on wax. Those are grooves so deep, I could pack up my family and move in. It's like the Meters backing Curtis Mayfield through the filter of Black Dynamite. JAXploitation baby!
Just been listening to it. The guitar at the end of The World's Smiling Now sounded a lot like It Still Moves era guitar. I like that. Oh man
Enjoying Jim's new album, although it has taken a few listens to really get it..
Gotta say though of the 2016 solo releases, Carl's is the better of the two in my opinion, at least at this stage.
Jim and band taped a live session today for my favorite radio station, WFUV. They're usually only around 30-40 mins and include a nice chat with some live songs. It should be streaming in the next few days. I'll include a link when I see one..
For now, check out all the other ones: http://www.wfuv.org/discover
In the Moment is so fucking good.
So anybody get their download yet?
nothing here...i just tried signing into wonderful union thinking maybe it was under that. but nothing...
I probably wouldn't give this a second thought if I didn't believe so much in Jim James' songcraft. First listens are always tough because first impressions are so often wrong, but this is probably going to be a very nice grower, to be listened to in certain situations and circumstances and reveled in, definitely an escape-hatch type of album.
Here's one first impression, though: I listened to the last track, Eternally Even, and couldn't help but think of Thom Yorke and True Love Waits (also an album closer). I think this is an album Thom Yorke would probably enjoy very much. The solo albums of James and Yorke play in the same ballpark. A few foul balls and pop ups, but some line drives and a couple of home runs (Here In Spirit knocks it out of the park).

For me the highlights are "The Worlds Smiling Now" and then True Nature- Eternally Even.
I love his choice of ending it with Eternally Even. I think the first half is a little weighed down with songs that are too similar sounding, but the back half is perfect.
When SOL initially came out, I didn't like it much at all and that really lowered my expectations for this album. While it has grown on me and I actually like the song when I hear it on the radio, it's my least favorite on the album.
That being said, I think this album is endlessly listenable and I keep finding new grooves to love. Man, I was not expecting to enjoy it this much. Cant wait to this shit live. Current favorites are Here in Spirit and Eternally Even.

I feel the exact same way. I also feel like if you don't like this album it's a taste or preference thing not a quality thing. To me, this is leaps and bounds better than ROL. Way more dynamic.
Thank you so much posting
I'm loving this album. I wasn't the biggest fan of Regions Of... so my expectations were pretty minimal. Shame on me for underestimating Jim. I loved the Waterfall and may even like this more. I'm on my 5th or so listen and it gets deeper and more complex each time.
Just played for the first time. wow!
That's so f.ucking cool!
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/jim-james-on-happy-accident-solo-lp-new-my-morning-jacket-w447248
So I think I've come to the conclusion that I enjoy Jim's solo albums more than any of My Morning Jacket's post-Z albums. Maybe that's just because I'm a soul junkie, but I can hear his musical vision so much more clearly here and on Regions. From the fascinating studies of a mostly forgotten production style to the lyrics that are a bit sharper and more honed, there's so much to come back to here.
A side note: Jim's gotten so much better at societal commentary and making danceable tunes over the years. Compare the lyrics of I'm Amazed and beat of Cobra to that of Here in Spirit and True Nature, respectively. It's quite a leap.
it's growing on me for sure. i was stupid to judge it from one stream listen.
after my first full listen, i love the groove and overall feel of the album, but not real keen on having jim whisper in my ear for 40 minutes. i'm sure there's a reason he chose to sing like that on nearly every track. i'll figure it out eventually.
Definitely took a few listens, for me, but.... I'm really diggin it.
Can't wait to see it live in Philly next week!
Looking through these album credits is such a trip. The dude got Jim Keltner AAANNNDD Chris "Daddy" Dave on drums?! Are you kiddin' me?!?! No wonder it's so funky.

Woah. I did not know this.
Jim Keltner has to be 1000 years old by now  I know the name from his work with George Harrison back in the early 70's.

He was everywhere in the early 70's and beyond. He has done work with every Beatle
what a surprise, getting an Indie Variant through someone other than Wonderful Union is about $10 cheaper than Jim's site. Add in the outrageous shipping and it's a no brainer to not support WU.

Haha, someone is feeling the inspiration. Awesome stuff, Mr. white!

I've also had many issues with Wonderful Union over the years. Has anybody ever reached out to Jim or someone else in his organization? Because they are a horrible representation of the band. In the last 4 years, I have had to open 10 "Requests" due to issues with my orders.
So I should not have been surprised when I pre-ordered the Eternally Even download and not only was it not immediately available on the day of the release -- How hard could that be to plan? -- but I received a 192kbps download instead of the advertised 320kbps. I wouldn't even have bothered ordering it for $11.29 (including tax) since it's cheaper elsewhere online, but I figured it'd be worth it for better quality and I'm likely contributing more money to Jim by buying "direct".
I messaged Wonderful Union about this error with the download, messaged them again over several days when I didn't hear back, and finally decided to call them. They told me that the bit rate for the download was never advertised, and since they had taken the page down from their website I couldn't really argue with them. Then I found a cached version of the original page and sure enough, it clearly states 320kbps. They finally caved after more messages, but seriously, how can a company like this suck so bad??
In case you too received the lower quality download with your vinyl or other order, I suggest you contact Wonderful Union and refer to this original link:

This is not at all surprising. Unfortunate that we've all had issues with WU but still often try to do the right thing by buying directly assuming it's better financially for MMJ. After WU lets everyone down and everyone then buys elsewhere, maybe someone in the higher ups of MMJ will Get The Point.
I don't know about y'all, bu this album has really helped me cope with the events of the last week. It gets better each time I listen. While SOL may have been Jim's contribution for the "musicians for a Drumpf-free America," I feel like HIS will be the song that resonates with me most moving forward.
"We're down on our knees picking up the scraps. Whatever it takes we're gonna build it back. If you don't speak out, we can't hear it. Our love is always here..."
Looking forward to catching him in Birmingham! Wish he was touring with the Roots because that Fallon performance was
Welcome d wil. See you in Bham!!
Not really a fan of the new record, I hope the new MMJ will have more guitars on it and will be more "Rock and Roll" like Jim said.....but with him you never know. Which is something really cool and really frustrating at the same time but it makes Jim James one of the most interesting artists of our time. He is like our Dylan but happy and friendly :-)
Although I think the official vinyl release date is 12/16, I found it at my local store yesterday, so they are starting to circulate.

Waterloo in Austin confirmed they have it.

My Indie variant also didn't have a download code.
Anyone down to share a digital version of this album?
Gotta radiate the gold!
Looks so good!! Going to pick one up in Birmingham before the show. Are all copies in gold or are they limited?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Did anyone find any signed copies that were also gold?
Jim James 'Eternally Even' (Hot Pink Vinyl, LTD to 500) is available at the Vinyl Me please Store. I believe you have to be a member to buy. I thought maybe since the record of the month a couple months ago was Z there might be a few here who have bought memberships and wanted to share.
I got my VMP pink and they are still available. VMP only allows you to buy 1 copy.
So uhh......I just got a vinyl of this from Wonderful Union today. The only thing is....I'm pretty sure I didn't order it. I see nothing in my email or my Roll Call orders page. Is this the first time a screwup from WU has benefited me?

I also couldn't find confirmation anywhere. I did, however, order it for sure. Only info I ever got was the tracking number randomly when it was shipped.

I think I read that the gold ones were limited to 1,000 (not sure on that number though) and were only available at independent record stores (pretty sure about being only at independent stores). Guestroom Records in Louisville, CD Central in Lexington, Grimey's in Nashville, and the like, are your best bets for this one.
There are a decent amount still at Guestroom last time I was in there.

Has anyone else noticed a distinct lack of low/bass frequencies on the vinyl pressing? This problem has been noted to occur on both the EU Black and US Gold pressings.
Does anyone here have the US Black and/or US Pink pressings that they could compare to the digital version of the album and post results?
It's quite noticeable when listening through headphones or decent speakers. The bass drum lacks any life or oomph whatsoever. Sounds more like someone kicking a cardboard box.
This album keeps growing on me. So good.
I must admit this album has grown on me hugely also. The World's Smiling Now and In The Moment are both very sexy. I need to get my hands on a coloured vinyl they look beautiful! Where's the best place in the UK to get these does anyone know?

Gold seems to be still out there. Pink was limited to 300 and is sold out.
Don't bother with the vinyl. As mentioned above, there was an error in the source provided to the mastering engineer, resulting in a complete lack of low/bass frequencies on the vinyl pressing. This issue exists on all different versions.

Really? How in the world does that even happen? On every single vinyl pressed this occurs? Unbelievable... what happened to test pressings?

Someone dropped the ball. It's a shame that all of the variants are from the same master cut. Maybe Jim will catch wind and they can repress with a corrected mastering.
It took me awhile and several times listening to it but I dig it now, although I like the second half of the album much better than the first....."the world is smiling now" is my favorite track
heard "The World is Smiling Now" on the show This Is Us, the episode this week.
Here In Spirit keeps ....it just blows my mind. I posted before that I would rather have an MMJ album / live album DVD thing / tour over a Jim James solo album, but now I understand how one benefits another. Without him recording State of The Art by himself, we'd have never gotten to hear Jacket do that song and now it's become one of their MUSTS. I need to listen to the whole thing still, just cannot stop listening to live Jacket to do it.
I've been listening to the album pretty consistently since it came out and three songs stand head and shoulders above the rest to me. 1. World is Smiling 2. Here in Spirit 3. In the Moment. I like the jams (Hide in Plain Sight, Younger), especially live, but i've grown a little tired of them when I listen to the album. True Nature is a cool track but i don't really feel anything when i listen to it. Never liked Same Old Lie, not once. I would put Eternally Even at number 4. It's just a lovely song.. I think the common denominator between 3 of my top 4 is that Jim is singing in those and is more so talking in the others. I think that makes them easier to love longer.
As a whole, I may like this album more than the last three MMJ albums. There are songs that are so powerful within those Jacket albums that they blow the doors off of anything Jim has done in solo (Slow Slow Tune, Smokin', Touch Me Part 2, Tropics, Spring), but Eternally Even just makes me feel very good.
