Title: Album Art for the Tapes
Post by: el_chode on Jan 09, 2009, 12:47 PM
Forgive me and feel free to delete this if it has been posted already (a quick search turned up nothing unless I'm doing it wrong), butt:

Is there any unofficial album fan art for any of these shows? I'd imagine a bunch of you are really artsy fartsy, and if you'r elike me you're anal about your catalog and like to have actual colors on your ipod instead of a black and white musical note.

I like to toy with photoshop and stuff and wouldn't mind making some if they don't exist, but I figured it might be a cool collaborative effort. Or maybe this is against the policy or something, I dunno.

Actually not a bad idear. I turned artwork off on the ole ipod as I needed the space as mine was full(saved like 2 gigs by deleting the art) but still a good idea. I know on some things people have posted artwork in the past for shows or special mixes, etc. (Angry Ewok, BH, Kory, and a few other).

huh huh huh you said butt.

You can save 2 gigs by deleting album art!? My, I just might have to do that! But I do like my album art...

Earlier this year I converted my archive of shows to mp3 so I could have them easily search-able in itunes. If I didn't use a show poster as artwork or something that someone put some work into to create I used the ones below. I tried to keep the members/years right. some of the older years are poor res pictures but I didn't have much to work with in a couple instances. feel free to use these if you guys want...

I usually use pictures from the shows, either ones I took or off of the website. I know it takes up memory, but it is so helpful when looking for an album...

I got the idea to start this after seeing Kory's post about the Christmas show.  Here are the two I made so far from shows I attended.

Louisville

Nashville

best Part about the Nashville pic is it was during the War Begun guitar bang ;)

I make art for the shows I post here: www.thesteamengine.net.

mjk73-

How do you turn off album artwork on the iPod? I have been trying to do this forever because I hate the lag in response time while it is loading the pictures.

Yeah seriously. I didn't know you could do that and my iPod is running out of space!

Did anyone ever do any artwork for Bonnaroo 08?

Can someone confirm that the show on archive.org taped by Brian Hadella was the better of the two sources?

I'll make it my project this weekend. I wasn't there personally, but I think the Return to Thunderdome needs particular attention. I can be handy with the Photoshop.

That and there was a way to have it delete off all artwork. Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I forgot I even ventured into this neck of the woods. Seriously, if your ipod is getting full, delete the art. I saved me a TON of space.

Alright, here's a highly compressed image, approx 70k in size so it should not take up too much space on your pod or anything, but should still resolve well if you just play it through itunes, followed by a super-tiny 30k image to take up even less space. let me know if you'd like anything higher/lower.

My weakness is turning photos to hand-drawn quality, so I'm a little disappointed in how the face blends turned out.

As you can see, I decided to go with the cover to Beyond Thunderdome motif since Twofingers already did a lovely job with the live backdrop.
