Title: Taping Policy
Post by: willsfc on Feb 05, 2010, 06:50 PM
Hey, I assume its Open Taping at MMJ shows.. will the venues know/allow that?

also can you bring a stand in and setup near/behind the soundboard (specifically nashville show)?

They let Kory setup at the last Nashville show but that was a different venue.  No soundboards. Mics are fine according to the band, but it's always wise to check with the venue.

I emailed management a while back and didn't get a response.

when i say soundboard, I meant setting up mics on a stand near the FOH (soundboard) area.

Yeah, I know what you meant, I was just letting you know what the policy was.  When Kory setup last year they had an area near the soundboard roped off and that's where they let him set up.

From archive.org:
QuoteDon't like the board sound but are cool with aud taping, so bring your mics.
and

QuoteManager Mike Martinovich furthur added: "Hey Tyler,
Thanks for reaching out to us. Sure, we're always cool with fans/friends sharing shows with eachother. So long as the person sharing is not 'bootlegging' and trying to turn a profit.
Again, thanks for your interest and spreading the music...it's all good by us.
Take care,
Mike

My Morning Jacket's Manager"

yea, they're cool... only caveat being that some venues don't know it's cool. Printing off the policy from the archive page and keeping it in your gear bag will help but if you get it in, Ryan Pickett the sound guy is alway cordial and doesn't mind a mic stand or two next to the boards...

Thanks for the info, I plan on trying it for the Nashville show. I wish somebody official would inform the venue.. don't want any problems :P

The Venue's policy.. for your safety...

*NO AUDIO/VIDEO RECORDING DEVICES

If the venue gives you shit tell them you are with the band and ask to speak to the band's sound guy, Ryan Pickett.  He's a nice dude and always cooperative with tapers.
