Any news... is Awesome news!!!
My guess is new song with video
And possibly album release date announcement
Or even better... a listening event like waterfall 2 with album release Friday 8/27
hope they announce more dates to fill in that october gap
The boys headbanging like it was 2003 or something

Yes, please!
Someone on Facebook did some detective work and found a listing for a self-titled album being released on October 22nd.

EDIT: it's been taken down.
Nice! Too long to wait though!
So awesome. Whatever it is, it's going to rock. A new single would be sweet and would make the live sets this summer and this weekend. Albums come out on Fridays so the 24th could be a single. And maybe more shows to be announced in combination with album announcement. If October is accurate, then tons of new tunes late in the tour! I'll be tuning in on the 24th for some news. Exciting stuff in these stressful times.

albums always used to get released on tuesdays though. at this point, i'm not ruling out a digital release on tuesday with the physical release happening later on in october.

Google "my morning jacket vinyl" and go to "images" and sort by latest. There is some album artwork maybe 5 or 6 images down...new album confirmed.
Also looks to be self titled like the rumors.
Guys I don't even know if I can handle this right now.

Haha that's why I preemptively added those parentheses. WF2 definitely is an album and I love it. I guess what I mean is that it was recorded during the first WF sessions, so is more of an extension of a 2015 album.

Yup - Waterfall was definitely the end of a phase. Jim is on record saying there's been a rebirth of sorts. You don't have to be an insider to see the difference in energy after Jim took some time off from MMJ. Came back, ditched the coat and sunglasses (and shoes), and now ready to start the next phase. I'm so excited.
Looking forward to it!

Tight! Congrats man
The more I think about it... the more I think they drop the whole album tomorrow, digitally, and release it physically Oct 22. These cryptic videos are very similar to the teasers they put out last summer before dropping WFII out of nowhere... plus it would make much more sense to release an album right before the tour than in the middle of it. I don't think I'm gonna be able to sleep tonight!
I was always skeptical of albums being 'surprise' released but man, getting The Waterfall II in one single bitchslap last year was something special and I'd be all in for that with any future release. However, I think if this was the case they'd be teasing more than just this one song, right? What did TWII teasers consist of, I remember Feel You and Wasted?
I guess I need to stay up until midnight just in case it drops right at 12:01 EST (and subsequently listen to it 10x's in a row).
having had a chance to hear it early, i will be shocked if the show in charlotte opens with anything other than this tune. it's good. it's relevant. i think people are going to be happy.

the album art does look awesome. I am assuming the circular poster in the deluxe LP is of the album art.

Same. Listening to the song didn't do much for me, but a thoughtful video changes things. Still don't love it, but between the video and finding out it's the opener there's more optimism.
Not a fan of the album cover, looks like the kinda cheese one of these 2010s psych pop bands would have b/c it's totally psychedelic dude. But everything is kinda played with artwork in this day and age.
The album cover would look a lot better with a black or darker background. I don't know why but I always feel like whites/creams are kind of lame. It doesn't look like a MMJ cover but I don't hate it. The titles are intriguing too in that they don't sound like MMJ titles. These aren't complaints. Just an observation! Like I said I'm intrigued!

Same here. I can't remember the last time I heard a song for the first time in a video.
Looks like there will be a limited Indie Store exclusive orange vinyl version of the album.

Apple Music has the album at 61 minutes. This is intriguing to me. First song at almost 4 minutes, leaves 57 minutes for the next 10 songs (Average of almost 6 minutes per song). This is their longest album to date, with how many songs on the album. I'm sure there will be other shorter songs on there, which leaves me to think, that there will most likely be 1 or 2 epics on here (PWW/Dondante)!!!!
Does anyone think that someone in the band or in its circle posted that 10 min remix of the new song on soundcloud. First post by 'Owl' who posted the link this morning. I know Jim has posted in the past remixes he did of some Floating Action songs.
The 'Midnight Blazer' remix is pretty sweet.
look at these handsome, smiling faces! looks fairly recent to the music video with Tom's long hair back

My Morning Jacket proudly announce the upcoming release of their Self-Titled ninth studio album. The band's first new music since 2015's The Waterfall, My Morning Jacket reaffirms the rarefied magic that's made My Morning Jacket so beloved, embedding every groove with moments of discovery, revelation, and ecstatic catharsis. Produced and engineered by James over two multi-week sessions at Los Angeles, CA's 64 Sound, the album came to life after what looked like a permanent hiatus for the band. - but after performing four shows in summer 2019, beginning with two mind-blowing nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, My Morning Jacket was overcome with the urge to carry on.
That sense of purpose can be heard throughout the thrillingly expansive My Morning Jacket. For all its unbridled joy, songs like "Regularly Scheduled Programming" and the otherworldly, album-closing "I Never Could Get Enough" once again reveal My Morning Jacket's hunger for exploring the most nuanced and layered existential questions in song form while simultaneously harnessing the hypnotic intensity of their legendary live show more fully than ever before.
My Morning Jacket arrives Friday, October 22 on all DSPs and in various physical formats, including CD, LP and deluxe edition 2xLP colored vinyl (exclusive to ATO & MMJ online stores); Pre-order now.

This article was posted about a week ago and concludes discussing The Jacket's show in Charlotte on Friday.
The future to come...August 27, 2021 — Charlotte, NC
My Morning Jacket are one of the preeminent touring live acts of the last fifteen years. The Jacket are America's best kept secret due to their ability to shuffle setlists each night and their knack to feel the energy of the crowd to produce a rewarding sonic landscape that encapsulates the band's dharma which is sprinkled to all attendees attending the same baptismal church service.
MMJ kicked off their first AP era (After Pandemic) show at the NC Music Factory's cozy amphitheater with "Regularly Scheduled Programming," the new single released earlier in the week.
Who's ready for renewal!? "Boy I was ready, I was ready for Spring...it's beauty changes...Changes everything" are lyrics from "Spring (Among The Living)" off 2015's The Waterfall and running parallel are the lyrics that flow within their latest single and 2021 tour opener "Regularly Scheduled Programming":
"Diamonds aren't growing in the garden
Raindrops aren't filling up the sea
Excuse me, you know I beg your pardon
For this interupption
Now back to regularly scheduled programming
Had enough fun..."
It was a sign we all need to 'make like a tree and leave.' Leave our pasts behind and move forward. Be present because it's a gift and soak in the now.
The show in uptown Charlotte would be their first show since August 10, 2019. Doing the math, that's 748 days or just over two years ago but it's precisely 17,952 hours since their show at Forest Hills in Queens, NY.
It's been a minute...or 1,077,120 minutes of 'em and the troupe led by Jim James (vocals/guitar), Tom Blankenship (bass), Patrick Hallahan (drums), Bo Koster (keys) and Carl Broemel (guitar), were all killing it collectively to spread their gospel to the masses.
The Jacket are docents and that makes every show an automatic special event. Their performances are timeless, never irreverent and flow smoothly over the course of their roughly three-hour shows. They are in town to guide you through your own life through their songs to help those that need to find deeper meaning and somewhat of an understanding of the world around us. If you have a question for them, simply listen to the band or strike up a convo with one of the thousands of Jacket fans in attendance who can share their experience of how this band has affected their life — and you'll come to find that it's all 6-star Yelp reviews. The band and the fans are THAT epic.
Future Jacket beckons. We'll all hear and see soon. Only memories will remain...so bring your midnight blazer and enjoy the ride. Now, back to regularly scheduled programing.
