Title: 2003.06.03 Mercury Lounge; Austin, TX DVD torrent
Post by: Kory on Nov 02, 2006, 10:28 PM
As if OKONOKOS wasn't enough this week...
Here is the 2003 Mercury Lounge DVD from Erik Mauck (the guy that taped it and put it on YouTube).

Note: Some of you can be completely happy with the quality of the YouTube videos and that it fine but I come from a different school where quality is job #1. I try to only collect lossless format in audio and I expect the same for video.
I contacted Erik and he so kindly sent me the dvd so I could share it in it's best form with the community.

On a side note, if anyone has any MMJ tapes that aren't on the archive and you believe them to be in lossless (FLAC) format, please shoot me an email and we'll work on getting them posted.

Back to the dvd...

This thing is excellent!
I am seeding it over at the Traders Den.

I will also do 5 Blanks & Postage trades... if you are unfamiliar with this techique, check the link below.
First 5 to post back requesting the B&P will get in.

http://www.mcnichol.com/bnp/

I'll do more, I just don't want to overwhelm the post man just yet.

On to the screen captures...

you got connections at WFPK?  I've got a cassette tape of mmj's live lunch 10-27-00.  It's one of my favorite concerts of all time.  first time I heard One Big Holiday, may be one of the first performances of the song.  great version of war begun.  halloween themed, great jim banter.  I'd love to find the FM source of this buried gem.

I also have a show from 2001 that hasn't been circulated, I'll keep on the look out for more.

no connections whatsoever... just try and track down people that have taped stuff and such.
Let's get those two out there? If a cassette's all there is at the time, let's convert it. It's still better than mp3 sourced stuff. Do you have equipment to do so? I can if not.
I'd also love to get my hands on the original tapes of the planetarium show... mmmm good!
I will contact FPK about that 2000 show, they're nice people.

I have the original planetarium CD rips.  As for the ditigal videotape it was taped on, it is buried somewhere in my friend's storage space.  it'll pop up one of these days, but probably not any time soon.  Let me know what WFPK says. I'll send you a copy of my cassette if that turns out to be a dead end.  I'll also send you the 2001 show when we do the B&P for this DVD.  I also have a few tapers you might be able to hit up.

What burning program do you have?
If you have NERO,just click "burn DVD files" and put the DVD files in there and click "burn".It's that easy.

I just got this myself.  Thanks KJ!  And thanks for the people that were brilliant enough to document this band in their early days.  I am just overwhelmed with jacket right now.  Okonokos, Acoustic Chorale, Austin DVD, and live show coming up in 6 days!  You would think it would be too much but it's just the opposite.  It is the life blood I need to keep the warm glow inside me growing and yearning for more.  (I'm glad no one can see me right now as I am hugging my television.)

You either need to download a program that can play a VIDEO_TS folder (dvd format) or Burn the VIDEO_TS folder onto a dvd in data format and stick it in the ol dvd player.
What kind of computer do you use, maybe I can help you more specifically.
Don't rename it to mpeg, that will do you no good.
I'm on a mac and can use VLC... I think they make that program for PC as well... it's free.

Do you think you could split out those songs as wav files and compress them to flac and put them up on the archive? That would be the best possible copy of that show in an audio format.

OMG Friggin' Sweet.

This was my first live MMJ show to attend, and having a professional video taping of it is like my birthday. Christmas, and Steak & BJ day all rolled up together in a big fatty with a nice scotch on the rocks.

I have watched this thing 3 times in 24 hours.  This is every bit as good as Okonokos or Acoustic Chorale.  The sound quality is incredible.  Would it be strange to frame a DVD-R to hang on my wall?

Kory, you made my year.

There also some things I know I put up a year ago that still don't show up and i can't find them to save my life... LMA changed things a while ago and I don't think their search functions ever ironed out. Thanks again!

It is a cold water springs in Austin that the locals like to go to for laying out and swimming.  It stays super cold year round.  It could be 110 F outside, and the springs are still too damn cold for me.

I think Jim may have overstated it a bit...  or maybe he noticed all the college girls in bikinis.

Kory:

I'm a long time lurker and fan on this Board (since 2003) but your offer made me finally register.  If it is not too late and not too much trouble, I would love to send you 5 DVD's with return postage.

Some background, I first heard the band via the Uncut CD with Death is the Easy Way and have been a fan ever since.  I've seen the band live 4 times and watched Okonokos over 20 times.  Thanks again.

Bill, you want 5 copies of the dvd or are you offer the extras as a payment of some sorts? Payment in trading is strictly prohibited so if you sent 5 dvds, I'd have no choice to fill them with 5 different Jacket shows/programs... if that doesn't sound like a bad deal, shoot me a PM to confirm and i'll send you my mailing address.

QuoteAs if OKONOKOS wasn't enough this week...

I'll do more, I just don't want to overwhelm the post man just yet.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited.  My torrent software has been running 26 hours on this one, with 3-4 hours to go (94% downloaded).  Check out the video thread above in the Tapings section (http://www.mymorningjacket.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1214356223/86#86); I'm trying to compile a list of DVD quality vids, so any others you can share would be GREATLY appreciated.  Atlanta 11-12-06 is an audience recording with a killer setlist, if anyone has that to share.

I just finished the 28 hour torrent DL.  I'll leave it up and open to seed others (forgive me if I misuse torrent lingo).  Would love everything you have for Jacket video, Kory, but have learned to be patient (training for the next 6 months before the new album/tour).

Hey Trish.  For those who want to download and burn this DVD, here's a quick primer, taken from a post I made for the Charleston DVD and edited for this show:

For those new to the DVD burning game, here are a few things that might help.

1. If you don't have software for downloading torrents, click here to download and install utorrent: http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/

2. Click on this link to the Mercury Lounge DVD torrent file: http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=84072&d=1290738197. When dialog box opens, click OPEN

4.  utorrent will automatically start the slow download.  Don't shut down your computer until its finished.  Give it overnight (my download session took 28 hours!).  The file will end up in your DOWNLOADS folder unless you change the destination first.

5.  Open a DVD burning software.

Nero is good but expensive ($80): http://www.nero.com/enu/store-nero10.html

I just bought DVD Cloner 7 for $40, which will burn this DVD and can also rip from commercial DVDs to make copies and a whole lot of other things: http://www.hermanstreet.com/store/smarthtml/dvd-cloner-7-t20.html?&ICID=AB-DVD%2...

Easy DVD Clone is free for 7 days: http://download.cnet.com/Easy-DVD-Clone/3000-7970_4-10416957.html

6. When choosing the files to burn (software might say "add"), browse to the folder you downloaded via utorrent.  It should read "MMJ_MERCURY".  Open it.

7. Choose the folder, which should read "VIDEO_TS".  Don't open this folder or try to add the files individually.  Just add the entire VIDEO_TS folder.

8. Be sure to have a DVD+R or DVD-R blank disc in your DVD-RW drive.

9.  Check to see if your burning software requires any additional steps (naming the disc, choosing transfer mode such as hard drive to DVD5, etc.).

10.  When all looks good, check again.  Don't be afraid to hit the BACK button to be sure your ducks are in a row.

11.  Click the BURN button (a right-pointing arrow in DVD Cloner 7).  Be patient.  Expect 10-15 minutes.  When done, toss the disc in your favorite DVD player, fingers crossed, and HOPEFULLY, you'll melt yo face!

The torrent download also includes a folder of "extras", such as info on the taping and a jpeg file for a DVD case insert.

If anyone fails to succeed with the above steps, I can burn you a copy.  Normally, I ask for folks to cover costs, but this fits on a standard DVD-R blank disc and I won't do a DVD case (I just used the DVD case for some software I won't likely need).  I can print the insert or email the jpeg to you as an attachement.  I'll also post it below.  The discs cost me 60 cents and postage is under a dollar, so I'm not too concerned about $$$.  Seems silly to PayPal such a small amount.  Hopefully, Santa will bring me another spindle of 50 for Christmas.

I watched this last night.  Wow, what a difference to see Danny Cash and Johnny Quade instead of Bo and Carl.  Jim in his bare feet and HAIR, HAIR, HAIR.  They've clearly grown and matured musically in the 7+ years since this show, but the power of Jim's voice is there behind his mane.  Patrick's post-Steam Engine solo is nearly the same as on Okonokos.  Some real treats in this setlist, and a nice solo set from Jim.  Check the setlist on the DVD insert jpeg below.  Oh, and a great interview is included on the disc.

Once again, thanks Kory and everyone else responsible for putting this DVD in my hands.

I did this audio transfer several years ago now from Kory's DVD.  I know I have a FLAC  version but I can't find it now, so when I do I'll post it.  For now, here's an itunes aac version, straight from my personal Vault.  I know I did a light edit and fixed a very brief drop out in one of the early tunes, but I can't hear it anymore, but I mention it as I did this small correction, and now its seemless.

I would glaldy do a B&P if someone would be willing to copy some for me? You know, if you do nice things for people it usually comes back 10 fold :)
