Good spot!
If these are imports, where are they coming from?

QuoteIf these are imports, where are they coming from?
Amazon lists it as an import-release on Phantom, but I don't know anything about Phantom. CD Universe lists it as a Darla (US) release, which makes more sense. I guess we just have to wait and see what this release will be and if it will see the light of day. I know there has been some rumour earlier on about a release like this (if I remember correctly on this board as well), it's supposed to have some hard-to-find stuff from the early days ...

Funny how it's listed as Phantom on one and Darla on the other...Darla's site has nothing on this record.

Hmmmm.....

here's a word from darla:

'The Darla archives contain many unreleased early My Morning Jacket recordings, the best of which will be compiled for release along side hard to find favorites previously available on singles and compilations only. Stay tuned...'

Tracklists for all three scheduled discs are announced on the Darla site as we speak! Head over there or go to From Nashville To Kentucky to see what great stuff is coming our way!! For now I do not have any further information ...
Title: Re: Early Recordings!
Post by: Magnix on Sep 05, 2004, 06:56 AM
Just updated the songlist on 'From Nashville To Kentucky', and I count nine new songs on the two "Early Recordings" volumes (three on v.1 and six on v.2), and besides the 11 tracks from the  "At Dawn" bonus demos CD there are 7 previously unreleased "The Tennessee Fire" demos on the "At Dawn & Tennessee Fire Demos" disc!

The tracklists look pretty damn great, though! A lot of titles I never even heard of! In fact, there's a lot of titles not even mentioned in the huge list on Ger's page. And that list is huge! Hurray, new undiscoverd songs! I'm quite excited.

Just a heads up if you haven't preorderd yet...I think if you order them individually you get a better deal on shipping.  It doesn't make sense I know.

I ordered the first two and it was like 5 dollars for shipping...then I realized I was missing a cd and ordered the other one and it was 2 dollars.  Specificy numbers might not be right, because i did this about a month ago.  However, the shipping was cheaper for the single cd.

Oh, and is "west end girls" an old 80's cover also?  I'm not going to lie...there is one kind of music I completely hate listening to and thats 99% of the crap from the 80's.  However, I will entertain the idea of hearing MMJ making this songs worth listening to.  ( Even if its not the song I'm thinking of, "Take my breath away" is an 80's song right?)

"Take my breath away" is by Berlin and most certainly an 80s song, as it was on the "Top Gun" soundtrack-which was the most 80s movie other than "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" or "Breakfast Club".

I don't know if this is a cover of that Pet Shop Boys song, but I love it already if it is!

OK, gettin' this thread back to it's original subject:

The two "Early Recordings" volumes are now titled:

- "Chapter 1: The Sandworm Cometh: Early Recordings"
- "Chapter 2: Learning: Early Recordings"

And the "At Dawn & Tennessee Fire Demos" CD release has been moved to March 7, 2005! The Darla website says: "We will make this title available as soon as possible. The band wants to hold formal release of this one for just a little while longer. No worries tho' it won't be forever!"

MY MORNING JACKET: Chapter 1: The Sandworm Cometh: Early Recordings
COMING 11/15/04

The Darla archives contain many unreleased early My Morning Jacket recordings, the best of which have been compiled for release along side all the hard to find favorites previously available only on singles and compilations. MY MORNING JACKET: Chapter 2: Learning: Early Recordings
COMING 11/15/04

The Darla archives contain many unreleased early My Morning Jacket recordings, the best of which have been compiled for release along side all the hard to find favorites previously available only on singles and compilations only. Track listing: 1. Tonight I Wanna Celebrate With You 2. Just One Thing 3. Take My Breath Away 4. West End Girls 5. Dream a Little Dream of Me 6. Death is the Easy Way (LD13 version) 7. Bermuda Highway (live at KVRX live version) 8. Nothing To Me 9. I Won't Cry 10. Why Don't You Love Me? 11. That Someone Else Was You 12. Tyrone 13. I Will Be There When You Die (2 meter session version) 14. Good Nights In Other's Beds

MY MORNING JACKET: At Dawn & Tennessee Fire Demos
COMING 3/7/05

We will make this title available as soon as possible. The band wants to hold formal release of this one for just a little while longer. No worries tho' it won't be forever! When we originally released My Morning Jacket's epic At Dawn the first 2500 CD and 1000 LP came with a bonus demos disc, which was like another At Dawn in itself. This has long been out of print now and we frequently receive requests for it. The beloved demos disc will be available once again with the addition of seven choice demo versions from The Tennesee Fire sessions as well. Track list: 1. The Way That He Sings (demo version) 2. Hopefully (demo version) 3. Just Because I Do (demo version) 4. Bermuda Highway (demo version) 5. Lowdown (demo version) 6. Honest Man (demo version) 7. At Dawn (demo version) 8. I Needed It Most (demo version) 9. Lead Me Father (demo version) 10. Phone Went West (demo version) 11. Chills (demo version) 12. Just Because I Do (version 1) 13. Heartbreakin Man (version 1) 14. Evelyn (version 1) 15. The Bear (version 2) 16. If All Else Fails (version 1) 17. Picture Of You (version 1) 18. I Think I'm Going To Hell (version 1)

J*s*s Chr*st, what's the problem here? Is it so hard to put some songs that have already been released and are just gathering dust in some closet somewhere on a disc, make some artwork and then dump it in a record store for eager fans to spend their money on? They're old songs! Most of them have already been released, so what's the big deal in just repeating that? Have they totally forgotten how to do that over there at Darla? Or is it, perhaps, some legal thing, with ATO trying to get their share as well and the two labels not being able to find a satisfying compromise? Hey, we could have collected all that stuff for ourselves by now, gentlemen...  >:(

i just got At Dawn with the demos disc. its a great album, but don't worry about the demo disc that much.  its cool to see how the songs evolve but the recording quality isn't that great and the overall performance is alittle lacking.  i plan on getting the early recordings disc, but the demo's are essential in one man's opinion.

I do not agree here. Alright, 'essential' is perhaps not the word, but the recording quality is only really lo-fi on the demo of 'At dawn' the song and even there I kinda like it. Also, the performance is quite alright and even chilling on the 'Phone went west' demo, plus that disc contains one of the most haunting songs in their entire oeuvre, the apt titled 'Chills'!

Still, this is just one man's opinion. :)

If only for "Chills", the demo disc is essential.  The abandoned-mine-shaft-echo-chamber-vocal-treatment-reverb-the-size-of-Montana is pretty neato too.  Sounds like he's singing into the hold of a ship or something...

"Chills...down my spine..."

That song definately makes the cd worth owning and paying a little extra to get it.  However, I also believe the entire cd is worth listening to.  I'm assuming it will be similar quality on the two that are coming out on the 15th?

Some of the song titles on those cd's already sound amazing...i'm especially looking forward to "Good nights in other beds."

Face it, I don't think they would sell much of those records here in Europe.  Not so much people do know the jacket around here. Pitty, but reality.  The costs to release those records here are probably much higher then the benefits.  And if we can get those records by any other mean than the regular record store, so be it, but the most important thing is that we can get those two cd's.
