I just want people to know that. I'm afraid I'm starting to look like a grumpy Tennessee Fire diehard, so that's why. :)
BTW There are days when I consider the Songs: Ohia Split EP to be better than TTF...
You're so funny!
For the record, I certainly don't hate you or think you're grumpy or an ISM-malcontent.
And don't worry, Jim told me he doesn't hate you, either.
(Just kidding about the Jim part. I only wanted to make you feel better.)
:)
I've been an At Dawn maniac lately. Sporadically sing/shouting "Alllllll your liiiiiiiife is ob-sceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeene."
I think if I could only take one CD with me on a deserted island that I would be happy with TTF. ;)
it would be a tough coin toss for mee too--maybe a personal mix cd????? ;)

Well, that's tough as well. I tried it a couple of times, but I always really wanna have 'Cobra' on it and after that, there's so little room left for other songs. ;)
i need a whole jar of coins
hmmmmm....that's a head scratcher, I guess it would depend upon what mood I was in when you asked.
Today, it would be TTF.
There seem to be an awful lot of fans in denial over It Still Moves. When pressed to name their fav MMJ release most seem to name anything but It Still Moves, as if it was a non street cred thing to do to admit that it is MMJ's best to date.
This band is evolving and developing. I expect their next release to be their best yet! In the mean time I, personally, rank ISM top of the tree for overall quality. IN MY OPINION EASILY THEIR BEST RELEASE TO DATE.
Yes, there are great tracks everywhere throughout MMJ's canon, but ISM maintains a higher level of consistant quality throughout the entire album.
I can see how you would say that considering how fucking incredible It Still Moves is, but I truly put At Dawn ahead of it, and it has nothing to do with "Street Cred". I love all three albums a whole fucking bunch, but if pressed to rank them, I put At Dawn at the top. I don't really think the fan base in general is that much interested in "Street Cred" although it is funny, I think your the first person on the board to rank it number one. Nothing wrong with that, I don't think your some stupid bandwagon jumper or anything, It Still Moves is incredible.
Good On Ya!!!!
If I am jumping on a bandwagon, then it looks as if I've landed in the driver's seat, cos there ain't no one else aboard!!!
I guess we should spread some love for ISM.It was actually my 1st MMJ CD.It also contains my favorite MMJ song,"Steam Engine",and I still listen to it a lot. ;)
I love it too. It takes turns with At Dawn as my favourite, depending on which one I'm listening to at the time.
Indeed, cheers for ISM -- "I Will Sing You Songs" is pure musical perfection.
I'll ride shotgun with ya, loper. It's my favorite as well. A buddy of mine let me listen to it during the Christmas season in 2003 and I was immediately hooked. He gave me copies of TTF, At Dawn, and Chocolate and Ice the next week. I scanned through them, but didn't really pick them up again until about May of 2004. That's how hooked I was on ISM.
can I have 2 cds for my desert isle?
I'm going to join the It Still Moves bandwagon. It is still my favourite album, probably because it was the first MMJ release I heard and therefore fell in love with. The opening 5 tracks is the best opening to an album I have heard in a long time.
But the 6th track is 'I Will Sing You Songs'!!!!!!
...currently my favorite MMJ tune -- damnation, that is a beautiful song.
Alright, so I hadn't listened to ISM in awhile, and so I had to get it out today. Damn, it's good!
My rankings change, depending on my mood. I don't kow that one album is better than any other, but I reach for At Dawn more than the others (except, perhaps, AcousticcitsuocA.)
But I do love ISM, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. :)
me neither :D!
Dude, ISM is awesome. It was my first MMJ CD, and rightly so, my first love. It's going to my deserted island, and that's for sure.

Nice! That's my story too! Almost exactly how I feel...
I cant believe how popular At Dawn is on this board!!!
I mean, don't get me wrong, i love each and every MMJ album so much, but i rank ISM first and TTF second, even though At Dawn is a great album with some of my favourite songs. :)
I would have guessed that ISM would be the most popular though, cause I think it's absolutely great and is pure musical beauty from start to finish.
ISM was my first CD too, and I would also take it on desert island
For me, I was introduced to a song first, and then heard ISM in the car, and then heard a bunch of different songs from various places. And I rocked to ISM for a long, long time. And still do. However, after getting At Dawn, it's my favourite. It is on almost every day. Yesterday, while cleaning, I didn't realize that the cd player was on loop, so it played through twice and I just sang along to it the whole time.
ISM is a masterpiece, not many bands have two in a row but I believe this to be true with the Jacket!!
I just heard, and by heard I mean REALLY heard 'Rollin back' on headphones this morning. I nearly had to stop walking because I was taken back by it in a completely new way- blew my mind. Hit repeat a few times too.
"Just in the nick of time you got me...while I was sittin here" ahhh ahhhh!!!!!!!
QuoteI cant believe how popular At Dawn is on this board!!!
For me AD is the quintessential MMJ sound. It was my first CD and I think it really captures the spirit of their sound IMO. BTW I am incapable of pointing to one MMJ disc and saying "Thats it! My #1!" There is just to much to like about each of them.
On a recent trip to Florida, I gave my buddy who lives there my copy of It Still Moves... while it broke my heart to part with it (even long enough to go home and buy a new one), I felt good about spreading the word. Almost like you feel when you make a big cash donation to charity...

I feel that way every time I wrap up the 3 main disc for a present to another friend or relative ;)
