And with that I am up to 3 stars! All you 5-star show-offs better watch your back! Ok, I'm going to shut up now and go to the bar.

It's really kind of fun to read what everyone's favourite songs are.
I can't do this. I'm trying. It's lame. I keep changing my mind.

I think you misspelled 'favorite'. There's no letter 'u'. I mean...come on! :)
Look out people, the spelling police have arrived! ;D

In Canada we spell things differently.
"favourite"
"colour"
"centre"
"theatre"
"other countries exist aside from yours"
Oooohhhh. Nope. We spell that last one the same.
:)

If that's the case I better retire from the forum right now. :(
maybe Riny can add Spel Chek to the forum ;)
no real order:
1. steam engine (i've really never cried or dreamed or loved as much before as during this song)
2. come closer
3. weeks go by like days
4. sooner (makes me think of my month old nephew and some of the hopes i have for his life)
5. the way that he sings
6. hopefully
7. the bear

9. golden
10. one big holiday (the guitar solos melt my face)

Yes it is! I'm sorry for putting this kind of pressure on people!
QuoteYes it is! I'm sorry for putting this kind of pressure on people!
It was really tough! I had to take a valium to make my decsions ;) And if I had to choose again right now, maybe it would change. The great thing is that there are few bands out there that you have a hard time choosing 10 songs by when there are just 3 full album releases and a couple of EPs.
GOD I LOVE THIS BAND!!

But in america we spell all of those words differently...that means we must be right. So from now on, spell all your words to my liking. I'd really appreciate it. And so would America. :)

No way, Manuel.
We spell things like that in the UK too. Hey, EC, I didn't realise you spelled like us in Canada.
Anyway primushead, if we tried to spell things your way our spellchecks would go wild ;)
America's a big country. It can take a bit of diversity :D

Actually, here's one American who believes that we should adopt British spellings. I think it would add a bit of refined panache, which is all too lacking in the American character. Ya'll hear what I'm a-saying?

Heh. Yep, we sure do. Even though we wanted to kind of get away from you, we didn't want to fully sever ties. Plus we kept the Queen for a looooong time. Oh Canadians. Always trying to stay everybody's best friend.
Here's an interesting fact - it is rare to find a Canadian spell check. And you can't use the British keyboard, because our symbols are in different places. Very frustrating.

Sho do. Once I's a gets inside from a-tappin' the trees for maple syyyyyrup, lemme come backs in and finds me my "How to spell the Canadian way" book for yeeeeaaaaawwwwwwll.

(Okay, here's how retarded I am. I went to Nashville last year to meet up with 'wiggum and hellacious and to experience the transcendental with the My Morning Jacket, and one morning while everyone was sleeping I went to the Waffle House for some raisin toast and coffee, and April was my waitress, and she had the wickedest accent, so I started to speak like her, and at one point she stopped and said "Now. huh. Where're y'all from?" And I said Canada. And she looked at me like I was crazy. :))

EC--do you mean Guitar Town from Steve Earle? I hope so because big Steve is where it is at. That was a great record.
Steve kicked heroin in prison in the early 1990s and has come back with 8 amazing albums since. He is a true patriarch.

EC--have you seen the video Steve and The Dukes put out about four years ago in support of the Transcendental Blues tour. I forget the name of it, but I have it somewhere in the film archives.
That was when Steve was going through his 1960s-Vietnam era U.S. Army issued glasses phase. They were those huge, thick-rimmed spectacles. He's definitely a trend setter.

No I haven't seen that!! Is it like a music video, or was it a full dvd/video thing?
Yo EC--it was a full show filmed in Canada, shortly after Transcendental Blues came out. I picked it up in the Ville at ear-x-tacy--but, I'm sure that amazon or one of the other sites would have it in stock.
He pretty muck plays every song off TB as well as some old tunes like "Fearless Heart." It is definitely a much watch.
Hey Kymoose, you probably already know, but Steve Earle and The Dukes are coming to Headliners Friday April 8.Tix go on sale this Saturday at noon.Didn't realize they were there were so many Steve Earle fans. His last cd "The Revolution Starts Now" is amazing,Very political and powerful.
This may be turning into a Steve Earle thread....
Definitely April 8 at Headliner's...also slated for March 24 in Bloomington, IN at the Bluebird. Should be good times.
Yay he's coming to Toronto on March 4th. Wicked.
(You should go on April 8th - that's my birthday! :))
Thanks for the tips, moose. I'm gonna look out for that.
(Are there moose in KY, by the way? That may be a REALLY dumb question, I do realize.)
Okay. I'm starting a Steve Earle thread.
Most definitely going. He always has a very diverse crowd that range from bikers to lawyers. And some drunk who always yells for "Guitar Town" all night.
Here's a decent Steve Earle story for you....
Steve played at the old Brewery Thunderdome in Louisville about 7 or 8 years ago (I believe that's the same thunderdome that Jim say's on the Bonaroo show from last year, "this is return to thunderdome")--anyway, during the show some dude kept screaming "Play Copperhead Road" "Play Copperhead Road" over and over. This went on and on for at least 5 to 7 songs---and finally Steve just completely snapped. He get's on the mic, points at the guy and screams "WILL YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP." Everything was awkward for a moment and then Steve busted into a new tune. The Copperhead Road fella left shortly there after. Steve did eventually play Copperhead Road that night.
Anyway, Steve always manages to throw out some f bombs.
hehehe that's great.
in 2003, I saw Jet and Kings of Leon at Headliner's. Now you Louisville heads know sometimes there are drunken meatheads who decide to throw beer at the performers, fiddle with their amps, etc., and apparently the drummer for Jet wasn't in the mood for such shananigans.
So Drunken Meathead #1 is in the front of the crowd standing next to Drunken Meathead #2. #2 turns to #1 and they both start fiddling with the monitors for whatever reason meatheads do this kind of shit. The drummer puts up with this for about 3 songs, and at the end of song 4, he gets up, walks over to the meatheads, grabs the singer's mic and shouts "IF YOU PEOPLE TOUCH MY SHIT AGAIN, I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU". The bouncers dispensed with the meatheads lickety split.
I'm late to the party, but here's a top 8 songs of the 80s:
Nothing Compares 2 u - Sinead O'Connor (file this under
songs MMJ should cover)
Shooting Star - Dylan
Veronica - Elvis Costello
Kiss - Prince
Shake Your Rump - Beastie Boys
Fight the Power - Public Enemy
Handle with Care - Traveling Wilburys
Watching the Wheels - John Lennon
ha ha ha. What the hell is wrong with people that they mess around with gear? Looooooord.
steveearle.com is great, and his blog is really great. The latest entry is - well go and read it. John, I know for sure you will love it. (It's a little bit sad, though.)
tundra, Handle With Care, ohhhh yes. I love those travelling wilbury's.

hey, that's a Prince song covered by Ms. O'Connor...supposedly in honor of Peter Gabriel.
Quotehey, that's a Prince song covered by Ms. O'Connor.
Yeah, but I like Sinead's version better.
It's okay, 'cos prince is on the list, too.
(didn't know about the peter Gabriel part, though.)
the gossip at the time was that Peter G. and Sinead had a love child together, and that after they broke up, she recorded that cover in his honor.

Hey Kymoose,I was at that show also, and you're right I forgot it was "Copperhead Road".But the same thing usually happens at most John Prine shows too.
Right on antoniostrohs--that was a good show.
I would love to see John Prine. A year or so ago MMJ had "Far Far From Me" during the pre-show music rotation. He has some great stuff--I think he is playing Bonaroo this year if I'm not mistaken....

Hmmm, that's an interesting subject. Who picks the pre-show music? Do the artists get to, or does the promoter or club owner (if they're not the promoter)?
man, i love john prine. i've only seen him once, when i was about fourteen, but it was such a great show. if you get a chance to see, run with it. when he played "hello in there" everyone was crying.

That would truly be an amazing show, John Prine and the jacket. I hope John wouldn't get mad by having to open up!
QuoteThat would truly be an amazing show, John Prine and the jacket. I hope John wouldn't get mad by having to open up!
HAHAHAHA!!
Maybe they could have equal billing? John WOULD have to open up, but that's just because the boys rock a little harder and louder.
Can you imagine him and the band doing "Christmas in Prison" together?
That would be rad.....
I vote for a duet on "Illegal smile"
