"This March saw the arrival of My Morning Jacket with producer John Leckie. The boys whipped up their second album for ATO/RCA records in Allaire's Great Hall."
Looks like they found a new recording home.
that looks amazing. those views are incredible. that area is beautiful and i'm sure the boys are going to make us proud. plus, there's no way you can make a bad record with that sunset to look at. Ê:)
I am predicting massive amounts of soaking reverb! Hope Jim had that fire in his throat that he is always talking about!
(gurgles ala Homer Simpson)....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, reverb.....
Wow. What a beautiful place. That's so great.
That sunset may very well appear on the cover of this new one.
BTW, I made it back from Birmingham alive. When you that are coming down for the show get here, we're going to have to check out the views up there. Majestic.
Very Cool. The anticipation for a another great record is too much. That area looks like God's country and sure it makes for a amazing recording experience. And as John said

mmmmmmmm reverb

Yes, in more ways than one...
Cool - does that mean you went to the Sloss? Are those the heights that you speak of?
Oh god, how can I wait three weeks to git out of here!!!
Looks like a highly evolved...Talk about world class studios. Nice!!! That must of been some time. The place looks like an amazing drug. :o ;) Thanks for that.
wow, not a bad move from the barn. That looks like it sounds amazing in there. I can't wait to hear the drums, and lets hope the guitars get the right amount of heavy this time around. I totally want the new album to do justice to the weak lead tone on It Still Moves.
QuoteThat area looks like God's country
Be careful when you say that right now. President W. likes to believe that all of America is God's country.
GW's mistaken. The North of England is God's country ;)
QuoteGW's mistaken. The North of England is God's country ;)
I am sorry I forgot about that. I think God added that part when President Shrub was lying in bed with Mr. Blair drinking a couple of O'Douls.
And we'll find out tomorrow whether that 'special relationship' has cost him his job.
(This area does resemble some of the beautiful pics I've seen of the USA though.)

Same here with the antici...(Say It!! Consti-)pation. But no, the Sloss is actually in a low lying area downtown; on the drive into the city though, you'll see some amazing views.
Quoteon the drive into the city though, you'll see some amazing views.
Oh super ass. I'm constipating some exceptional scenery on this trip. I think I'll have to bring multiple memory cards for the camera.
(oh boy!)
John Leckie. Does anyone know anything about this guy?
i wish they had a guitar and analog keyboard list.

Impressive, eh?
That place is amazing. Beautiful and huge. I've never seen anything quite like it. And look at all the stuff they have in the equipment lists!
Reverb and F/X Processors
TC Electronics System 6000
(3) Roland SDE 3000 DDL
Ursa Major Space Station
Eventide DSP 4000 FX Processor
Sony DRE S777 Digital Reverb
Lexicon PCM 70 FX Processor
EMT 140 Stereo Plate
I don't understand a thing about this but i love the way 'Ursa Major Space Station' sounds! I bet they feel like kids in a candy store...
I just started listening to MMj and they have changed the way i look at music
QuoteI just started listening to MMj and they have changed the way i look at music
They certainly do that, don't they? Welcome to the club!
Wow, that view has to be inspiring. Imagine jamming to that view at sunrise or sunset? This next album is going to be amazing. Bands that "play" with a studio with a certain vibe like that make the best albums. The studio its self become a member of the band...Beatles in Abby Road and The Band in Big Pink, shit like that...God damn.
MMJ has not just changed the way I hear music, but my life too....
Does anyone know if them switching studios has anything to do with Johnny not being in the band anymore? I know they put a lot of money into that studio before they recorded "It Still Moves", but the studio was on Quaid land. That would be too bad if they can't record there anymore. Regardless, I can't wait to hear how the new album sounds. I talked to someone who had the pleasure of listening to a few of the new tracks and they said that they were great. Can't wait to find out for myself!
thats bad ass
I think ATO is dropping a lot of $$$ into them on this new joint..so you can pick agreat studio and producer
I wish it would hurry up and come out already!!!!!!!
you're gonna have to wait for a WHILE from what the doods told me.
How long is a WHILE???
september
i know.. it sucks.. i gave jim and patrick a face that said "dammit, man!"
WOW,thats a long time.Definitly worth the wait though!
Why so long i wonder???
i heard some really cool stories about recording the new record up in the catskill mountains. tom said they watched "the shining" lol
hahaha.Jesus, this might sound a little different from the other albums then
from what i've gathered from hearing of the past 3 shows and witnessing one of them.. and from the conversation with them it seems like they're cutting loose more on this one which kicks ass to me.. i think we'll all be in for a real big treat.
QuoteWhy so long i wonder???
I'm sure that they are timing the release of the album with the release of the Elizabethtown movie. I'm sure that things are going to blow up for the band this fall.
QuoteI'm sure that things are going to blow up for the band this fall.
Man. I have totally had that feeling. I feel like it's going to go crazy. I talk about these boys A LOT to people. And if people haven't heard their music yet, they've almost always heard the name.
But I think it'll be okay. They've been playing for a long time so they're grounded. And they have three big records and numerous small ones under their belts, so they're not going away anywhere. But this may be the last time we see them in small places until they're in their forties and want to do intimate shows because they'll be in a position to do whatever they want.
Which is a little sad.
But I'll get over it. ;)
Apologies for being so depressing this morning.

check out this cute pic.
omnichord!
Oh BOY!! That means there's omnichord on the new record!! That's very awesome. Yay!
Exclamation points! Everywhere!!!
What's omnichord? An instrument?
yeah its an instrument that jim invented, or wait was it thomas edison? ::)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnichord
look, the boys are already listed for musicians who have used omnichord. mmmm jarvis cocker, oh wait man love is another topic somewhere! :P
Holy crap, they mention "Return to Thunderdome" in wikipedia.
That's awesome. Plus all of their information is accurate (as far as I know) - I always love when you find My Morning Jacket on a site somewhere, and they're described as a four-piece band...
:)
Quoteyeah its an instrument that jim invented, or wait was it thomas edison? ::)
??? you crazy.
Quote
??? you crazy.
i guess youve not heard any shows from the recent tour? well they sometimes play the bear or it's about twilight now, and if i remember you think anything post TTF sucks. i guess you wouldnt be interested in the most the recordings from recent shows which is where im getting this information.
soooooo....what are saying here. yes they do play those songs at their shows...and? as a matter of fact i traveled to Sloss Furnace's from a city called Louisville to see their first fucking show in a very long time.
Holy crap, they mention "Return to Thunderdome" in wikipedia.
i think wikipedia is one of the best things ever.
Yeah, I didn't even know about it until recently, but it's very very cool. :)
when i first discovered it, i looked up everything i could think of. and i was reading miles davis quotes and i like this one a lot.
"I've changed music four or five times. What have you done of any importance other than be white?"
Davis attended a reception in honor of Ray Charles at Ronald Reagan's White House in 1987. This was his reply to a Washington society lady seated next to him who had asked him what he had done to be invited.
That's awesome. Mmmmmmiles Davis is super wicked.
ok well congrats, i have that recording and sounds like a great show. i guess youve not heard the others with jim's stories about the omnichord? anyway, keep louisville weird, neal.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand. scene.
Hey does anybody know if they had gummi bears at the studio?
yes, james olliges claims to have "created" an omnichord in his basement.....did you really believe him?!
What? Where the hell are you getting that? he told me that he got it on Ebay.
same here 'wiggum
you know jim being cheeky at shows saying funny things, well he had a few different stories for the existence of the omnichord, one being that he invented in his basement. i think the joke machine has had a fork stuck in it....
Quotei think the joke machine has had a fork stuck in it....
I got your joke, ratsprayer.
I heard that a wild band of aliens came down and zapped it straight into his hands one night while he was sleeping.
hmmm well EC, i have really big hair as well so maybe thats a requirement for understanding such jokes.
Quotehmmm well EC, i have really big hair as well so maybe thats a requirement for understanding such jokes.
I shall quote my favourite line from Withnail & I:
"I don't recommend a haircut, man. Hair are your aerials. They pick up signals from the cosmos and transmit them
directly into the brain."
Word. ;)
i was bored in trig class so i came up with a little stanza and scrawled it into y desk
grow my hair long
so i have someplace to hide
can't cut it off
there's too much on the line
someone wrote back "intersting..."

QuoteLet your freak flag fly, brother. 8)
Freak it up!
Almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It's gettin kinda long
I coulda said it wasn't in my way
But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
Cause I feel like I owe it to someone
Must be because I had the flu' for Christmas
And I'm not feeling up to par
It increases my paranoia
Like looking at my mirror and seeing a police car
But I'm not giving in an inch to fear
Cause I missed myself this year
I feel like I owe it to someone
When I finally get myself together
I'm going to get down in that sunny southern weather
And I find a place inside to laugh
Separate the wheat from the chaff
I feel like I owe it to someone
that's why i love this forum. this thread can turn into "almost cut my hair." LONG LIVE CSNY!
That's one of my favorite CSNY cuts.
Tasty soloing!
new york studio used to record new album ----> hair, hair, and more hair. im glad schizophrenia seems to be socially accepted here. ;D
But it totally makes sense. Think of all the hair that was in that studio. Just think about it. Even though Jim's hair is shorter, it's still big. And Patrick and Tom have big hair. And Carl's hair is growing. And, I'm not sure about Bo. Is Bo growing his hair? Is that why he wears the bee hat?
Anyhow.
Hair is awesome.
Studios are awesome.
Omnichords are awesome.
It's allll the saaaaaame. :)
Bo's hair is really short right now. At least it was in the pics from Japan.... and that was only 2 days ago :)
You're right...
But was it short in the studio? Hmmmm?
Um hmmmmm.
the bigger the hair, the closer to God.
i just really like that phrase. :)
