Title: Has Jim pulled a first?
Post by: zosoosoz on Jan 26, 2006, 05:57 PM
I read an interview with jim lately...and he says that 'what a wonderful man' was a tribute to a friend who had 'gone to go and chat with the big man'.......
He said he wanted to make a joyful and not a mournful song for his friend.....
Can you guys think of another song that pulls this off?Celebrate a friends life after his passing.

I just watched the rereleased Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid and in the extras Kris Kristopherson plays "Sam's Song" which he wrote for director Sam Peckinpaw after he died.  He probably wasn't the first probably won't be the last.
Jim may be the first to have two songs of this kind for two different friends on the same album.   ???

Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder? Not sure if Duke Ellington and Stevie Wonder were "friends", but that sure is one damn happy, upbeat song.

I know U2 wrote 'Stuck in a Moment' for Michael Hutchense from INXS.  It's a shitty song from a good band, but the idea is in the right place.
