What MMJ tune gives you goosebumps, sends the tingle up the spine and makes you nearly weep, scream & shout or gets you to close your eyes & sing your heart out?
I think the guys have a quite a few tracks that do all the above, but for me personally....
1) Steam Engine.
2) Burmuda Highway (Preferably the KVRX version)
3) I Will sing you songs.
Get's me every time!!!
I'm sure this has been done before, I just couldn't find it. So please lock this down if need be. Dont wanna be a nuisance. ;)
I'll agree with Steam Engine there.
Gotta say Golden does it too. And strangely enough (this osng has it's ahters out there) One In The Same.
And Dondante. Holy shit Dondante.

Mahgeetah
The Way that He Sings
ask me in an hour, I may have a completely different list!
Oh yeah, I forgot Where to Begin. I think my iTunes playcount on that song is in the 50s or so. There was a few days right after i got it where i'd just put it on repeat and melt into it.
That said, I Will Sing You Songs is just damned amazing. And live...whoo boy.
this list would change for me depending on which day you're asking...but I'd say these are three that I always want to hear over and over again:
1. I will sing you songs
2. lowdown
3. If all else fails
I know that the last one doesn't seem to be on most people's list and I wonder why sometimes. Anyone else love "If all else fails." That song gives me chills.
How about all of them.
Actually it changes daily but here's a few for ya that havn't been listed yet.
1)Wordless Chourus - Tell me when your in your car and you got it cranked up you don't start yelling "HOOOOOO" at the top of your lungs. I can't even wait until Jim starts howling, I start doing it early and I get that tingle in my neck.
2)I will be there when you die - (2 meter sessions) with the Sunrides and the Girls Scream opening. Wow.
3)Tyrone cover - This one is really great R&B style that is a good departure and shows MMJ's range.
4)Mother - I know I keep mentioning this on the forum but good gawd, if you havn't heard it, you must download it. It's not available on anything but an old Darla sampler.
Oh, and put "Why Don't You Love Me?" on some night when your hammered and turn the volume up to 11 and hold on.
and, Steam Engine makes me cry so there ya go.....

Death Is the Easy Way

Yeah, that's them I guess, but then it depends on what mood I'm into. It may be change then. I guess my list would look completely different in a few hours.

Car shmar. I did it on the street the other day. ;) No jokes. The hooooos happen about 4 times a day in my house, and it's not just me doin' em. :)
i used to suffer from "listening-to-music-in-my-own-private-universe disease" where i would sing along to whatever was playing on my walkman/discman/ipod. lucky for me i have a good singing voice... but invariably, one of two things would happen. i would either get the "is she deranged?" glare or the "wow, she's so happy and carefree" smile. i say if you want to do the viking yawp along with "into the woods", more freakin' power to you. down with gloomy people. hoorah for happy people.

what rolling stone thingy?
being completely new as of 11 hours ago, im blown away by every song. but the ones that made me go buy the cds right before the store closed were:
"dondante", from the washington show in"streaming" section of the site. i live for long jams and sweet sweet raoring guitar. this had me hooked right away
also,"wordless chorus" and "it beats 4U", back to back. wish id been so high when i first heard them.
and "i will sing you songs".
im a huge neil young, pink floyd, pearl jam and radiohead fan, and this will fit nicely in to my collection. in fact, it will be first in my CD case for along time.i hope they come anywhere near ottawa ASAP.

i don't exactly know what it was, but i think it was during the release of ISM when jim was playing a couple of songs at some thing that rolling stone held in. fill me in where i'm wrong anyone?!

Go to the following link and enjoy. The day I discovered this, I got nothing done. The AOL sessions and the Rolling Stone stuff is downright ridiculous. For me, JJ's steam engine on RS is the greatest acoustic performance I have ever seen. The "way he sings" the subtle parts and the different changes, I uh I , oh hell just go watch and enjoy.

Yeah, I agree. i don't know how many times i've watched them. i never get tired of them. :)

ah, you're outta luck dude, it's cover of a dylan song that they only did this summer.
that said...
Ohhhhhh shit ruuuuuuuuuunnnn!!!!!!
holy crap, this song is frickin amazing...i'm just now downloading the official bonnaroo set and enjoying/listening for myself screaming like a dumbass. It was a great set, though Jim's voice sounded really raw :) frickin awesome for a first show though.
it changes on a daily basis.... current favs are
golden - this is such a warm summery song, it always makes me feel good
knot comes loose - ahhh
wordless chorus - jim's vocals at the end of the song ran a chill down my spine the first time i heard it. still does. there are only a few songs that have done that - jeff buckley's corpus christi carol, the first time i heard sigur ros... & now mmj!
ha, that's right. it's summer for you guys down there, isn't it?
summer in a BIG way. last week the temp was over 35 most days, saturday & sunday were both about 43 degrees. i think that's about 110F? stinking hot
That always blows my mind. You are on a whole other wavelength of summer vibin'. Today's forecast for me, a crisp 37F - 3C!
As for my favorite songs, I don't even know where to begin. Oh, look at that - Where to Begin. No, really, I find myself agreeing with everything you guys are saying.
This changes weekly
1--Lay Low
2--Golden
3--Steam Engine
4--What a wonderful man
For special reasons, Tonight I Want To Celebrate with You is the song that brings the best memory.
But, my favorite take-me-to-another-universe song, live only, is One Big Holiday! As strange as it sounds, it makes me feel like i just jumped off the top of a 1000-story building to commit suicide but I'm not gonna die. (how do you think Jim would take it if I told him that? ;) )
And then my new fav is Knot Comes Loose.... wheew!! Gives me chills. Actually, think I'll turn that on right now. :)
1.Golden.
2.At Dawn. When jim just singing it takes me somewhere
else, to a world of wonder.
3.Old september Blues.
4.Bermuda Highway.
5.Nashville to kentucky.
6.Anytime (WHAT A SONG!)
So many MMJ songs do it, but
for best sheer spine tingling MMJ moment I proffer . . .
Trapped in gasoline . . .
A lizard on a string . . .
Nobody ever screams .AANNNYYMOOOOOOORE . . .
it's called the Dark.
And if you ever got to hear the band launch into that tune live, well, you what I'm talkin' about.
Man, just stokes me thinking about that intro.
