Title: Off The Record - Backwards Lyrics
Post by: BigRed on Mar 07, 2006, 02:02 AM
So what does everyone else have for the backwards lyrics towards the end of this song? This is what I've come up with so far.  I'm almost 100% sure what I have is correct BUT I've left out a couple of lines because I couldn't make them out.  I'd appreciate some help on this from anybody else with technology/skills to make the words clearer.

"burn, burn, burn
no matter how
corruptible
there's only two ways to
Oh, Jesus
to your face
like scouts
its cool"

weird, I know.

I always thought he was saying.......

I was tired of my lady, we'd been together too long.
Like a worn-out recording, of a favorite song.
So while she lay there sleeping, I read the paper in bed.
And in the personals column, there was this letter I read:

"If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga, if you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
I'm the lady you've looked for, write to me, and escape."

I didn't think about my lady, I know that sounds kind of mean.
But me and my old lady, had fallen into the same old dull routine.
So I wrote to the paper, took out a personal ad.
And though I'm nobody's poet, I thought it wasn't half-bad.

"Yes, I like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
I'm not much into health food, I am into champagne.
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon, and cut through all this red tape.
At a bar called O'Malley's, where we'll plan our escape."

So I waited with high hopes, then she walked in the place.
I knew her smile in an instant, I knew the curve of her face.
It was my own lovely lady, and she said, "Oh, it's you."
And we laughed for a moment, and I said, "I never knew"..

"That you liked Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
And the feel of the ocean, and the taste of champagne.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
You're the love that I've looked for, come with me, and escape."

Seriously though, you are hearing the same words most of us have been hearing but I don't anyone can say for sure what all is really being said or if they did understand what he was saying they were to stoned to remember it the next day.

...into the sky...
...burn, burn, burn
indestructible
no matter how insane...
..or how dis...gruntled
snarf
there's only two ways to...Oh my Jesus! Lionel!

Easter is fixed.
White scalps
Here's a clue:
Lock it up and we'll fold into the flock...

it takes two red ripe strawberries and 800 loyal followers of evil...

....at least that's what i hear.

if we delve into the metaphysical analogisms of the hwole thing, i believe it to be some sort of a prediction of the end of world. Lionel Ritchie is the anti-christ, with some sort of super-human invincibility. There will be trial by fire, and it will come this Easter. Those who eat strawberries are damned.

Or it could be Tommy recounting Jim's decision to sell out by making Z.

If you're hearing both "Snarf" and "Lionel," that's definitely a Thunder Cats reference.

Thunder Cats was a pretty solid cartoon.
