okay, so i'm listening to the vinyl of this album right, in all it's jello red glory. And i'm listening to By My Car. and damn. if you don't have this, buy it, because it is amazing. Seriously, you can't get this version of By My Car anywhere but on the vinyl issuing of this album. And it's RED vinyl. how awesome.
oh man. thank you Jim James.
I was wondering if anyone had ever transferred track 6 into MP3... cause I really want to hear it.
hmmm...i'll have to see if my stereo will do that. my needle and stereo ain't so great though.
Man, I'd LOVE to hear that track!
Don't have a record player :-/
If anyone can make it work, I'll be loving long time. It's one of the very few tracks that I've never-ever heard...
so it's now round about 7:15am and i still haven't gone to sleep because i woke up yesterday around 4pm and i've decided that instead of trying to sleep after the sun is risen, i'll pull myself up by my boot straps and start today a little early.
I will hate life tonight.
But right now I've got At Dawn on and life is good because I'm playing this album as it was initially meant, and this makes me happy indeed.
Probably the wrong place to post that, but screw it.
oh and ewok, I have a really old and somewhat fusted (yes "fusted". mark that as my invention of a word for today. fuzz + busted = fusted) needle, os the quality really ain't so great. Plus all the equipment is about twice as old as I am (my dad had it in college...probably predates me by about ten years, so we'll call it 28) so the fidelity is a bit lacking. ain't so sharp and a little fuzzy and i'm very wary about trying to clean 'er up because i don't know how to do it. if you'd like my somewhat lo-fi ripping of the song, i sure can do it though...you may have to wait a little while for someone else to post it.
Whatever it takes! I'm sure I speak for alot of people when I say I'd love to hear it, and I don't mind if the quality ain't so hot... afterall, it's My Morning Jacket. The fuzziness may add a little extra feel to it, heh.
Hey - it couldn't be anymore lo-fi than, say, some of the At Dawn Demos, right?
:P
Speakings of... Why hasn't someone put up a little website offering the ultra-rarities of MMJ up for download or at least stream? The Conan O Brian performances? The Vinyl-only tracks converted to MP3? The best Lil' Billy performances? Some of the ultra-rare covers like Mother and Behind that Locked Door, Blue Moon and Girl From the North Country?
I guess there's lawsuits and all to worry about, though.
:-/
surely you've seen Deanna's offerings, have you not? they would be more than formidable, i would think. and archive.org's got a shitload of stuff. i'll work on By My Car in a couple hours when my roomie wakes up.
recording is in process

Hey Tom, thanks for the song. You might want to blow the dust off your needle there chief ;)
BTW, you're sleeping till 4 PM and you're still awake at 11 AM? You sure you're not smoking a ton of weed and/or drinking? Those hours sound very familiar too me...
PS Did you get my last e-mail about my work?
Beautiful song! So glad I got to hear this! The MP3 sounds great, too - I love the little spots of hiss and crackle from the vinyl...
You rock! Love you long time!
Haha, nah, it's not booze or weed....just shitty planning on my part...
i think i jjust need a new needle, this one is probably as old as the record player.
i did get your email. i have no clue why i never responded.
thanks for posting that, tom. it's nice to have it on my comp.
Thanks Tom, it sounds real good.
Man that's BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thanks very much Tom! :)
Nice Work Tom. I love having it on my computer, it will be making many apperances on mix cd's in the future now.
i'm sorry the quality's not better. i wish i had a better needle. but i guess it's great for what it is, it just sucks that it breaks up toward the end.
That's great! Would've never heard it otherwise. Thanks!
Thanks Tom! A perfect start to Monday! Listened to Z coming in and By My Car was a great chaser! Cheers!
Thanks, Tom. ;D
I can't stop playing this track, it's just so beautiful.
If I ever get to see Jim play solo I swear I'll spend the whole concert in tears.
Thanks again Tom.
When Acoustic Citsuoca came out, I remember reading.....maybe here?.....that it wasn't recorded in front of an audience at all, and that the applause/hooting/hollering was added in later. It wouldn't diminish my appreciation of it, but I'm just wondering if this is true or not. ???
haha, there was definitely an audience. i think these are rarities from a couple live shows over the year that they decided to record. someone else like aMD can verify what shows they probably were.

That is strange. I get the same feeling listening to Okonokos. There are some parts that sound "dubbed" in. In particularly during Wordless Chorus, after Jim sings "We are the innovators". There is a loud cheer from pretty much only female voices. It just doesn't sound right to me. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

That's no dub, those females were really cheering their asses off during that part of Wordless Chorus. I clearly remember it because one of em had wings.

Okonokos won't play on my CD player yet.

I believe it was recorded in Austin, Dallas and Athens in October 2003... in front of an audience.
I guess it's just the way the mix is on Okonokos, because it (crowd noise) does all SOUND dubbed in. I'm guessing they were spiking what the audience mic recorded at certain points.

Thanks. That's good to know. I thought it was pretty damn cool either way, but it's even better that it was real.
