This one will be a co-listening viewing party with Catfish haven (www.myspace.com/catfishhaven), a local band who MMJ has actually played with before. Both bands have a long history with Schubas, so this should be great!
I hope to see a lot of you there. ;D
Awesome! I'll be there. I rarely write but I read these boards all day long, I swear, and I'm really looking forward to meeting the Chi-town crew!
Swwwwwwwweeeet! this party is gonna rule!! i'm trying to get the record co. to fly me out for it!!! :D
Nice......Hopefully my wife and I will be in attendance.
You said Listeing/Viewing...does that mean we get to
see the DVD too? Or watch the other band that will be
there?
Cheers,
-Mj
I think there's a DVD in the packet that has the trailers for the movie....so I'm assuming we can watch that during the listening party as well.
Can't wait to meet you and your wife, Jernigan. ;D
One more question...Is there a cover? Or any kind of charge
at all?
Thanx,
-MJ
Nope, it's free!
{So fly on out ChiefOkOnO...:D :D }
Bump~ & new time! It starts at 7pm!! Hope to see some of you there! ;D
So would it be pointless to show up @ 9pm?
Will all the fun be gone by then..?
(trying to wait til the kids are alseep)...[god I'm such a parent]
Jernigan, just go into work two hours early, leave work two hours early, spend the extra time with your kids, and then you won't feel guilty. That's what I do. You can sleep when your dead.
I don't have a party to go to, but it makes me feel good knowing everyone else is getting together and soaking it all in. I need to live vicariously thru everyone else.

There's some great advice. :)
Jernigan, not sure if we'll be playing Okonokos then but I'm sure there will still be plenty of people there! And it's so good everyone will want to hear it again. ;D

I get up at 3:30am to be into work at 5am already. 10-11 hours shift every day. Although I did use that method to go see the guy's a Lolla this year.
I don't like leaving the kids to go downtown unless they are already asleep. Basically I don't trust my 18 yr old brother to watch them while they are awake.
But now, it actually looks like I have surprise visitors coming in Friday afternoon as well. So I may be unable to make it after all.
We shall see! Wish me luck......
3:30 AM! Holy Crap. :o Nevermind. I understand.
Surprise visitors sounds like fun though.
Tonight's the night in Chicago Jacketeers! They added Bobby Bare Jr to the list of what we are listening too...I hope we have a good crowd! 8) ;D
Forgive me for not knowing....but who is Bobby Bare Jr.???
QuoteForgive me for not knowing....but who is Bobby Bare Jr.???
just a little story about the recording of his new album being released on the same day as OKONOKOS.......
the new album is recorded-
11 songs
11 people
11 hours
and 16 days of preproduction
bobby bare jr's young criminals' starvation league's 3rd album for
bloodshot records
produced by BRAD JONES and BOBBY BARE JR.
the core of the band was me - brad jones -bass -
carl broemel - gtr- and
patrick hallahan -drums
carl lives a mile from me and was co - writing and patrick wanted to come
down from louisville and write some with us
grimey helped write some too
brad came in to produce the record with me
the rest of the band is
carey kotsionis - sang on my last 2 records and sang on this one too
corey younts- played keyboards and sang
doni schroader- played keyboards and percussion
jim james- -sang and played harmonica
deanna varagona- -sang and played her horn
ben martin- played percussion and brought pizza
my dad hung out all day and helped eat pizza
the album is coming out on bloodshot records in the early fall
I always wanted to do this big room sound thing- and oceanway was the only
place I wanted to do it at- big room sound and big fun
it was the most fun i have ever had with music in one day (see picture)-
brad and i are doing vocal fixes this week and mixing at alex the great
studios but
there won't be many overdubs at all-
don't know the album title yet but will post it as soon as I decide
That's a great write up there Bermuda Hitchhiker. Thanks for posting that. This is going to be even better than expected!
p.s. I didn't know JJ played harp! ? :D
I have to hear it.....I'm gonna google it right this instant!
If you go to his website, you can see the picture he refers to off all the guys that played on the record. Somebody else posted it here a while back. It's a great pic.
hmmm that looks very interesting, thanks!!!!
The listening party went swimmingly! Met a few people who were true Jacketeers or Jacketheads or whatever you call us! Thanks for coming out Brian and John, it was great to meet you. A few of my friends showed so all in all I'd say it was a success! The only gripe I had is that they put the three records on shuffle and that really sort of messed with the flow....none-the-less a big THANKS to Schuba's for hosting!
We had a pretty good crowd. I think many of them were there for Catfish Haven's record too as they are a local band and they were actually there!! So that was pretty exciting. They debuted their video too which was most excellent! They also handed out complimentary copies of Bobby Bare Jr.'s record which has a sticker on it that says "There is no one like Bobby Bare Jr. and this is him at his Best." -Jim James of My Morning Jacket. This record sounds like it might be really good, it was hard to tell but I'm excited to listen to it on its own.
Okonokos is pure brilliance!
btw~ nkdgnnxr (John) that song is "Honest Man." :) ;D
