First of all I want to say this DVD is great. The cinematography is perfect, and the sound is incredible. I also got the Acoustic Chorale DVD, which is awesome as well. However, when watching the DVD i got to thinking. Is this a real show or was this staged, just to make a movie. The crowd doesn't seem to be much into the music, which just doesn't seem to fit.
Does anyone know if this was a real show? Was anyone there?
Yep, it was taped at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA over 2 days. From my understanding the crowd was in on it from the begining as they were asked to dress as elves and faries, and in the case of the films slideshow... scary halloween clowns too...

and if you mean by the crowd not being into it, that they don't seem loud enough, i think they cut out a lot of crowd noise, maybe too much. but they definitely left if where necessary (i.e. i will sing you songs)
Thanks for the replies. I mainly meant that there didn't seem to be much movement/dancing. Could be, because a lot of the songs were fairly new.
All in all I am in no way dissatisfied. This is an awesome DVD.
Some of the crowd shots were staged... pay extra attention.
some of em were staged, yeah, but i also figure it'd be harder to move around in a victorian ball gown. heck, even at the Rites of Spring show, I hardly moved until i whipped my helmet off. it's just too hard to move with somehting on your head. but once that's gone, baby, i'm rockin.
No words from Jim either. That was dissapointing. Unless they edited out all the on-stage banter.
Didn't know if anyone else from the board went to see the premiere at the Stonybrook Theatre. Plus it was a sold out house. But it sure was a great time and the guy right in from of me won the band autographed Gibson guitar. It was way cool.

Yeah, I had to hold my helmet most of the time... Now I've got a drawstring/chinstrap for it, so maybe it'll stay a few seconds longer... Nah, probably not.
But seriously. Pay close attention to the crowd shots.

We sat close to the "reserved" seats as we though it could possibly be for the band, but i'm thinking that was for people that won tickets... or was that for family? I'm not sure where Tommy sat. I was so hoping to win that guitar and the way they displayed it out front was sheer evil.

I sat in the row in front of the reserved seating, tommy was one row in front of me with his new wife.
I was sitting in the very back next to Craig (VHS or Beta). There was this older couple behind us who were wasted and were trying to sing along with 'OBH'. Kind of irritating really. The guy who won the guitar was just ho-hum about the whole thing and seemed like he could care less. I would be doing back flips down the isle if i won that shit. Give it someone who actually gives a fuck.

Totally agree with you, as he may have said... "what's a geetar?"

Dude, I was sitting next to Craig. I could hear that one guy belting all the songs out, too. It was irritating.

yea the dude at the Kendal Sq show just sat there and said "that's me" in the most nonchalant voice. I would have been going nuts!

Um, looks like a mature concert audience to me. I HATE shows during which the crowds are tight and pushy, particularly towards the front.
It still is so surreal to me that I got to see our favorite boys about twenty feet tall on the silver screen. It was so cool.
This is my first posting on this site, thought I'd throw in my bit. I went to the second of the two shows, and, well, you all know how great they were. Personally, the evening was even more special because it was the first My Morning Jacket show that my wife had ever been to (she is now quite the little superfan). The crowd that night was very receptive, and quite vocal with love toward the stage.
This question may have already been posted somewhere on this forum, but I've been wondering if anyone has compared the Okonokos CD/DVD to the two nights setlists, and determined which of the two nights each of the Okonokos songs came from. Several of the songs are obvious to place, though I have no idea about some of the repeats.
Well, we've been given another treat with this years 3-night New Years run, which I will definitely be attending. San Francisco really is no more deserving of this attention than any other city, but we'll gladly accept it anytime they come back to play for us!
