Mahgeetah has closed many a show or main set for the It Still Moves, Z, and Okonokos tours. In doing so it has become one of the best songs in the Jacket's live arsenal. But I believe that it is time to crown a new king closer. Maybe Wordless Chorus or Steam Engine? A return to Phone Went West? A new song? Or should we just keep Mahgeetah? Post your opinions here.
Steam Engine would be a good one.
When I saw them at the 40 Watt in summer 2005, they opened with Mahgeetah and closed with It's About Twilight Now and it was
off
da
hook
there was a frenzy.
It's all about Lil Billy.
Phone Went West with the drawn out ending Mercury DVD style.
I vote Strangulation. Steam Engine would be too damn amazing.
anytime is a good time for a closer
Lay Low would be good, as well. I like the idea of Steam Engine, but to end the show I think the song needs to be more of a rockin' song. In Nov. MMJ ended with Anytime, which was an awesome closer for the second DC show.
on new years they closed with anytime. i love that song, its so fucking rock and roll, but so danceable. 15 of us grabbed hands and danced spinning in circles...the perfect way to end the new year. Anytime will work for me anytime!
Actually, they closed with Mahgeetah, it was just cut off from the recording.

Closed with Twilight? Wouldn't have expected that :o
if it was up to me they would do a fairly long set, and then close with Jim solo, 4-5 songs.
if it were up to me, there would be no closer.
i beleive steam engine is ideal.
I think I'm going to hell would be clutch.
VERY clutch.

AMEN, sista!
(how's the poi spinning coming along?) ;)
Heartbreakin Man
Cobra.....complete with mirrors, circa 2004
A new song from a new album that will become the quintessential MMJ closer! the Swansong if you will.
How about open with Easy Morning Rebel and close with Anytime?
I think "They Ran" would make a good song to open with.
C'mon you know opener are always 'explode in your face rockers'! Or are you going for the subtle ironic approach :-/?

With or without the horns? It would seem awkward to open with a horn section for the first few songs and then send them off.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that openers were always "explode in your face rockers" I will try harder next time. :-?

Yarr! They blow onto the stage like a conquerring sonic hurricane, whipping the minions into a frenzy, by god! 8-)

I would like to see a review of one of their live shows start with that sentence. I like that. :)
I'm a sucker for slow tempo openers. I love it when Pearl Jam opens with "Release" and I love it when MMJ opens with "At Dawn" I saw them open with "The Bear" in Knoxville and it was awesome, I also liked when they used to open with "Golden" A good rocking opener would be "O Is The One" Although I'd like to have just a little glistening of sweat when that one starts, personally I like a little lube before they launch into something like OBH or O is the one, otherwise I feel like I didn't get to fully experience it. OBH in the four hole is perfect to me because the crowd is a little warmed up and that opening guitar line starts up and it's like "ok, let's loose our minds now"
They could sandwich the set in an inverted fashion by opening with oooo say By My Car and closing with I Will Be There When You Die(?)
If they played only those two songs it would be a GREAT setlist.
I'd like to second "Lil Billy", with about a 90 second stinger.
They've done it before and its something to behold. "Anytime" is also a good choice.
