I know most everyone here loves all mmj songs dearly. but everyone has those couple that arent played much at shows and when they are, they make you feel pretty good. What songs do you think not get enough love?
my 5
1. Just Becuase I Do- An anthemic country rocker that exudes that devil-may-care attitude that we love about mmj, plus its got a harmonica (something often left out of the mmj sound), guitars staright out of Honky-Tonk Women, and one of those wordless bits that is so catchy its just amazing (oh-oh-oh-aaah-oh!)
2. Honest Man- The huge blues-rock fan I am, this song is like musical heaven. Take the Zeppelin and Stones style of blues, the MMJ attitude, and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot production and put it in a blender, and what do you get? This foot-stomper.
3. Rollin' Back- Some pure pyschedellic fun, but its a bit slow and i can understand why it isnt played live too often. However, its a great song for late nights or spacing out no matter what time of day.
4. Sweetheart- Yeah, its not that complex a song, its relatively obscure to the casual fan, but its simplicity is what makes it great. Jim's voice sounds a bit like Roy Orbison via Neil Young, and those little keyboard riffs, boy they get me every time.
5. I Just Wanted to Be Your Friend-Obscure to any casual fan, but its great power pop that i would kill for them to bust it out live one of these days.
1) Ev-o-lyn - This song just rules. Even my wife loves it.
2) What a Wonderful Man - Probably my favorite Jacket song. It is kinda Big-starrish cheesy 70s poppy, yet balls to the wall rocky.
3) Honest Man - Yeah, what you said. Reminds me of Exile on main street.
4) Into the Woods - Dunno, I just really dig it
5) I needed it Most - Just gets ya right there, ya know?
I agree with all those mentioned above. I'll add:
Weeks Go By Like Days
Knot Comes Lose
It's About Twilight Now (they should start playing this one next tour)
I was about to start this thread myself (Not hard to believe ::))
1. honest man- everything Big Come Up said
2. it's about twilight now- why do people ignore this? one of best TF songs, rocks hard
3. sooner- put AC version on during summer, really does it
4. weeks go by like days- low-key mood makes me feel like i wrote it
5. heartbreakin man- their first single, should be played live more
I write my reviews like that to demonstate my independence from my English teacher. ;)
Xmas Curtain
By My Car
Death is the Easy Way
Each of these hit me hard early on, still love them!!!
Agree on:
I needed it Most
Just Because I Do
You read my mind...Honest Man fa sho! When are we gonna start hearing that one?! Don't know if ya'll think it's underated but I'll add Masterplan.
I Will Be There When You Die
Rollin' Back
One In The Same
War Begun
Come Closer
1 - i just wanted to be your friend
2 - masterplan
3 - war begun
4 - one and the same
5 - i will sing you songs
The following is the number of times the band has played a bunch of the songs that you guys have mentioned above on their most recent tour. I am not trying to argue with you, because I would like them to play a lot of these songs more often as well! I just wanted to show you that they do manage to cover a lot of ground. More than you think.
WAWM Every show
Xmas Curtain 10 times
Honest Man 6 times
I Needed It Most 4 times
Rollin Back 3 times
Heartbreakin' Man 3 times
By My Car 3 times
Knot Comes Loose 2 times
Twilight 1 time
I wouldn't exactly consider Xmas Curtain "underrated."
Angry Ewok and beofftherecord are right, they need to pull out War Begun more often.

WAWM - Yeah, I was going with the fact that it is underrated by fans. I have noticed a lot of the fans lump WAWM and "Into the Woods" together as the weak links on Z.

I see what you're saying. I think it's a song that maybe we take for granted but it is fantastic to see it live (yes, only twice). That big guitar note right before the solo kicks in will get anybody's blood flowin'! Oh and that wonderful scream.....
The wonder that
is Charter MOXI puts the Conan WAWM only three clicks away from me at all times! It's like a small shot of adrenaline always at the ready.
i fuckin agree on all accounts.
"i just wanted to be your friend" esp.
1. Into the woods
2. Come closer
3. Nashville to Kentucky
4. Honest Man
5. Master Plan
all these songs need to played live more. Into the woods would make my life.
All MMJ songs will be underrated until they are in constant circulation on every radio station across America. That's how good they are.
Picture of You
It's About Twilight...
Old Sept Blues
Phone Went West
Sooner
I will be there when you die.
masterplan.
knot comes loose.
come closer.
sweetheart.
i could come up with several more. but here's 5 random ones.
1- War Begun
2- Strangulation!
3- Just one thing
4- Hell
5- Death is the easy way
Yet to hear # 2 >:(
The 1 that REALLY deserves more respect is If All Else Fails. Haunting...
Rollin' Back
If All Else Faills
Josta Dreams and Bitter Hands
I Won't Cry
I Just Wanted To Say+New Morning (a cover, but nonetheless)
Phone went west...... Bonnaroo '04 - one of the best live performances ever recorded in a frickin thunderstorm. That performance still makes the hair on my arms stand up. Anybody know if you can still get that performance legally? I have it on my ipod, but my original back-up copy has since "walked off"

I thought it was Steam Engine when the thunderstorm started. Maybe I am just reading your post wrong. Anyway, if you ever run accross the documentary that runs occasionally on the sundance channel, called
We Have Arrived Bonnaroo 2004, make sure you watch it. This is different than the 04 Bonnaroo DVD which has One Big Holiday on it.
On this documentary, at the very end, it has a performance of Golden that starts out with Jim solo in a tent and blends into the full band Golden on the big stage, followed by the outro jam on Steam Engine with the thunderstorm and the band rocking out in the rain. If that doesn't give you the chills, you need to check your pulse!
Anyway, I MOXIed it and watch it all the time. It has lots of other great performances on it as well but I don't think it can be purchased. Here is a link that says it's not currently screening but check it from time to time to see if you can catch. It's fannnntastic.

steam engine
I think most people here atleast will say that steam engine is one of their favorites. I didn't really pay attention to steam engine until i heard 'roo 04's version. Any live steam engine is great though.
Back in the day "War Begun" was a pretty regular occurence, Not to take anything from it, It fuckin rocks! I was just listening to 9/26/03 at Headliners in the ville. They rocked it out!
hard helmet. it has to be on the list, but i rate it highly.
