In the time leading up to a new Studio release, I am going to create this thread as a dedication to all of the wonderful live gems that we are lucky enough to have because of the bands willingness to allow tapers and access to archive.org.
Every Monday and Friday, I (and others hopefully) will post one song for the day. Two songs a week until the day that the new album is released.
The goal, is to gather together all of the special live songs that stand out above the rest. Songs that mean something special to you.
I only have three rules.
#1 It must be a live song and obviously, it can't be anything that can be purchased. (OKONOKOS!, Acoustic Citsuoca, Official Bonnaroo recordings, etc.)
#2 Each song can be repeated only twice and preferably, if a song has already been included, then the second version should be something different. In other words one would be Jim solo and one full band. Any slight difference is OK with me.
#3 Only one posting is allowed for a particular Monday or Friday. If you have a song you would like to post, you can come to this thread, pick a date that is still available and "call it" so when the day arrives, it is your day for posting.
If the album comes out in about six months it will allow for about 50 live gems to be placed in this thread.
I am hoping everyone participates, because I want this live "mix" of songs to be a group effort, representing everyone's favorite live performances. But if no one chips in, I will do it all myself!!!!

Very nice idea with a very nice start! Bravo Bermuda!
AWESOME IDEA! Gives me something to look forward too. :D
And that is a stunning version of Wordless, nice find!
Whoah, Hey, Hey, easy, no need to push and shove. There are plenty of dates to go around. ;)
A couple other points I need to make. Don't be afraid to post the obvious gems. There are always newbies that can benifit from this thread. And you don't have to do a sendspace link either. Just point to the archive page, or even just refer to it with a date and song title. Anyway, speaking of the obvious, here is the next pick for this fine Monday morning.

I don't know how to post something on sendspace. Can I just post a link to the archive? Or how can I post something? (I realize this has probably been asked thousands of times, but I feel a need to restate it for this thread)
And I'm having trouble with sendspace. iTunes insists that I find the temporary folder that the song was in, even though it doesn't exist. What should I do?
QuoteI don't know how to post something on sendspace. Can I just post a link to the archive? Or how can I post something? (I realize this has probably been asked thousands of times, but I feel a need to restate it for this thread)
Sure, you don't need to do the sendspace link. I just added that for the convience of others.
However, it is a really convienent tool. It's free and pretty self explanatory for signing up if I remember correctly.
Again though, just pointing to location on archive is good enough for me!

Alright, I call Friday, May 25!
:)
Now I get a surprise!
Hope you enjoy.
Prehaps you can highlight dates on your original post that are still open?
EDIT: Suddenly see you already did something like that.
I'd love to contribute when a date opens! I love this idea.

Peace and Love,

It's yours! I'm not going to make it to Lolla. I already made a weekend trip plan for Roger Waters and I don't think I can get away with another one with my new baby. Next summer, I am going to be at one festival that MMJ is involved in no matter what. Mark it down!

Ok folks, I couldn't decide what to pick, so I have two (or 3). 8-)
The first is Black Sabbath in two parts from 11-08-02. Here is the set list from that show.
http://www.magnix.demon.nl/mmj/archive/setlists/021108.htm
The second is Going to Hell from Okonokos. I know it's not obscure or anything but I think it's the BEST version of it I've heard. I am willing to listen to other versions to compare! ;)
~~Enjoy~~

Nice picks Jacketgirl!! :D
I really love "hell" from okonokos, so haunting and beautiful.. it takes me back!!! It's a mind bender for sure!!
Good choice on the Sabbath cover too.. I was kind of shocked when I first heard it. Its an unexpected but fitting cover for them, and I wonder if they will play it again?
Don't know if this is redundant, but here's the Black Sabbath archive location:

Thanks Chief and theDark! I always was taken with their version.

That's why they deserve their own reality show. "DOROTHY AND THE CAKE" I'd watch it. Actually I'd finance it, if I won the lottery.
This week on Dorothy and The Cake......
That's got a good ring to it.
We could send them to a different show every night for a year Beatle Bob style and see how they hold up.

Halo. Great picks so far peoples. I've got two recordings that stand above the rest :) :
I had such a ball listening to the New Year's Eve show with some of you here, this is one I play alot on the ipod. They Ran, the breakdown at the end is SO amazing. Track 16 on the playlist. Break out the Champagne! :D

This one gets alot of play too: Tonite I Want to Celebrate With You (Omnichord version) Live from KCRW, this sounds like it could be on an ep or something so well recorded and some performance from Jim and Carl Track 2 on the playlist:

Hey, sorry vp, I just got back from ChiTown to see Roger Waters. I like your first pick! The covers would have been fine as well. There is no rule against these songs. I was thinking about making a rule that said "no covers" since we have a thread for that but I decided not to so I'm not sure what you mean. Anyway, nice work all around.
Murph, well done. It's hard to pick just one isn't it? You can always sign up for more dates! :)

:)
Yo, Roger Waters in CHi-Town! 8-)
Yes, it was sweet. Roger is going slightly downhill on the vocals but the "show" was right on. Set the Controls and Shine On were a couple of "high"lights. 8-)
It was "Blues Fest" weekend as well, so after the show we went to the Hot House and saw a guy named Ronnie Baker Brooks play until 3 AM. On Sunday, the Chicago Bureau of Tourism presented us with a trophy for "Three Drunkest Guys in Chicago on June 9th, 2007" It was special.

Oh, thanks BH. To answer your question about my thinking I was breakin the law breakin the law, it turns out that 'Wear Your Love Like Heaven' is available at Darla (thus breaking rule #1); and I actually thought that I had taken 'Hot Burrito #1' from the Streams section of this site (it's a recording from KCRW 7/8/04)...turns out it's not there at all, which begs the question: where the hell did I get that song??? It's a mystery, I guess.

Ah yes, Donovan, I forgot about that being a studio song. It has really grown on my actually, it reminds me of a Syd Barrett song.

Yes! They did Butch Cassidy in St. Louis too. Sooo sweet. Is it Butch Cassidy that they have only played twice now? I have confused myself. Have they ever done By My Car in the past. I know they havn't done Butch Cassidy.
Oh, and I was hoping someone would pick out a Dondante. I love listening to lots of versions of that one and I am going to listen to yours now.....wait....*cough* Ok, now....
Damn that's good Dondante. If only that bitch would have shut her mouth during the quite part!
YOU HAD ME WORRIED!!!!!!!!
And, I checked, in the last three years, three By My Cars and two Butch Cassidys.
So, you can knock them both out with the 12-29-07 show along with a extremely rare Into The Woods.
