Title: Old Albums on vinyl???
Post by: bold99 on Apr 29, 2008, 11:18 AM
so I have Z on vinyl..wondering if any other albums are on vinyl? or if there is any plans to put them out.  I've seen pre-order info for Evil Urges vinyl for $18.99.

All of the records are available on Vinyl. TtF, At Dawn and It Still Moves are all out of print and are getting harder and harder to find. At Dawn and TTF regularly sale for $100 on eBay. It Still Moves can still be found in some record stores if you get lucky. I have personally contacted Darla about the possibilty of an At Dawn re-pressing and they told me that 'they were talking about it'. That was over a year ago. I'm pretty sure that these records will be released again in the future....the question is when?

Values are pretty out there for the OOP stuff. I won't spend this kind of money on a few records I know are going to be re-pressed in a couple of years. A few of us around here, though, have dropped a shitton of money on the originals. Great collectors items, for sure.

At Dawn $90+
Tennessee Fire $80+
It Still Moves! $50+

Hey BH, fyi, I tried to order this from them about 9-11 months ago and the order never came through - it was always "pending".  Maybe you'll have better luck!

I just bought at dawn this morning on ebay for $90. Got ISM a few months ago for around $60. Still haven't gotten The Tennessee Fire yet. I've watched it go for $250 one time on ebay (to steep for me).

RealDeal and BH:  I too attempted an ISM copy from Ear-x-tacy when it stated it was 'available' on their website...after 2 weeks I called the store manager and he informed me they were all out of stock and had no clue when they would obtain any more copies........

.......maybe our community of a forum should ALL email/call/smoke-signal ear-x-tacy as a whole and force them to hasten their production timing....

I just ordered 2 of each on amazon though as Darla wanted 24 bucks for shipping... whew!

Buy 'em up folks, this is what we've been asking for!

I'm not sure what Darla intends on shipping along with these few vinyl records to justify surging the shipping price to a whopping $22 for standard ground, but I tried to call them to find out. No answer.

Amazon.com
$20.88 x2
$20.88 x2
subtotal = $83.52
shipping = $11.92
total = $95.44

verses...

Darla
$19.99 x2
$19.99 x2
subtotal= $79.96
shipping = $22.50 ( ;D )
total = $102.46

I don't know if ordering 2 of each is the issue, but I just bought 1 copy of each through Darla and choose US Priority Mail and it came to $18 for shipping.  While this may be a little steep, I am a partner in a local, small business.  And shit, gas is just a real issue.  Companies like Amazon deal in such large shipping quantities that they can negotiate special pricing, which they can pass along to the consumer.  Small Mom-and-Pop businesses just don't have that luxury.

I am such a vinyl junkie...got everything on vinyl already (including the 45's & 7"), but the lure of colored vinyl... it is just too much for me to pass up.

While I agree with you and love supporting local/small business... Darla is plain and simply overcharging for what they're gonna throw in media mail for less than 5 bucks. (I've ordered vinyl from the before, i think they always use media mail) so I don't feel too bad going with big box this time round... I know, I suck, but is Amazon really big box?

yo wiz, rocked your mix again the other day in the Jeep with the warm, warm spring sun beating down on me... it was glorious! thanks again!

Yeah, Amazon is big (but I know what you are saying).  $18 is A LOT for priority mail from Cali...but I have "Mom-and-Pop" guilt to no end being part of a small business.  And Darla helped out MMJ back in the days.  No worries, buy where you want to buy  8-)

Glad the mix is still in rotation...just threw it on the iTunes and it is good sunny weather music!  And today is perfect for Oh Happy Day

Ya, Kory, I'd guess that you buy so much music from the M&P's that your conscience is clear for sure. For me, though, I somewhat recently lost my closest independent store (Music Millenium, though the main one on the other side of the river is still open) and every time I walked past it I would think to myself what I was "going" to buy there.  I browsed a lot, but didn't buy much there in reality. There's still a few indies around town, probably more than in many cities, including the two I go to on lunch hour, but still, it's really sad to me to now walk past it and see the old neon marquee doing nothing but looking sad. I feel like I didn't do my fair share...  :'( :'( (although, they wouldn't let me bring the dog in, which was sort of a sore spot for me).

I guess I'm just feeling nostalgic or some stuff.

Music Millenium on burnside is so worth the trip across the river  ;)

But this is coming from someone who still has her neighborhood (well work neighborhood) record store in-tact (Jackpot).  But that NW 23rd spot has some major history.

I ordered single copies of At Dawn and Tennessee Fire from Amazon and got free shipping for what Darla wanted to charge me $20 for. I work for a small family business, so I'm just as sensitive about the importance of supporting small business as the rest of you guys... but being the only employee in the company, I handle all of the shipping and have a good idea of what it costs to ship materials to customers.

IMHO they were overcharging by about $10, if not more... so they ended up losing about a $50 sale. Tough.

Maybe if I find out they've included something special that Amazon doesn't have, I'll order dupes.

nope, that's just the CD single. the 7" only has two songs.

Quotenope, that's just the CD single. the 7" only has two songs.

Yeah, that's all I could find.   The listing in the MMJ "music" section makes it seem like there is a 4 song version.  It's a bit misleading.  How many minutes typically fit on one side of a 7".  (Sorry, I'm new to this wax thing)
Title: Re: Old Albums on vinyl???
Post by: Kory on May 01, 2008, 03:03 PM
It all depends on the speed of the album 33rpm or 45rpms. That's the difference in calling it a 45 or a 7" but some folks just call anything a 7" or vice versa.
I don't know the limits but a record production company would know. I'm sure you could google it. I won't cause i be at work and mmj site is probably too much of my time as it is.
