Usually with a band I can identify my all time favorite song. With MMJ sometimes it seems like thats whichever song I'm currently listening to. If you had to pick one song - only one - what would be your favorite?
Steam Engine.
Unfortunately, having seen MMJ about 8 or 9 times, I haven't caught it live yet. I'm really hoping to see it at Radio City. I went to see MMJ open for Pearl Jam once but we got caught in traffic and were late. As we were running through Hartford to the venue, I remember hearing the last strains of Steam Engine in the distance. It sucked.

Hartford, CT? Where did they play???
With so many incridible songs to choose from, this is a very hard choice to make. But since I first heard it on Okonokos, Dondante has been my favorite. The lyrics and notes just make me melt...it's a true spiritual moment.
It's always changing.
Right now i'm all about Nashville to Kentucky
currently Touch Me I'm Going to Scream 2
Top song on my iPod per playcount is Gideon, but I'm thinking I actually like a couple better; It Beats For You, Gideon, Run Thru, One Big Holiday, The Bear, Touch Me I'm Going To Scream, Sweetheart... Nevermind, I can't just pick one.
Okay, how about Holy? :D
I really am not sure, like everyone else has said its very tough to pick one.
I love The Bear but not sure if I would put it at number one, One Big Holiday breaks my face everytime I hear a live version, Off the Record is so much damn fun. I don't know I guess if I had to pick one maybe it would be At Dawn, but its almost too short to choose because its over almost as soon as it starts. Damn it.
You couldn't resist could you? :D
This is tough!
My answer is; I don't know.
But "Lowdown" is what made me look even further into this band.
there's a live version of War Begun....

this was two or three years ago at (i think) the Dodge Ampitheatre in Hartford. they were opening for Pearl Jam, but traffic caused me to miss the full MMJ set. Pearl Jam, however, rocked.
later that year I drove to camden, nj to see jim solo but a typhoon caused the show to be postponed and i couldn't make it back the next day for the rescheduled show. that was a bad year for me missing the Jacket.
also, in the way of songs, I Will Be There When You Die alternates with Steam Engine for numero uno.
Very tough choice but I think I'd have to go with The Way That He Sings. When I heard that song the first time I finally 'got the jacket'.
Picking your fav mmj song is like picking your fav child. You love them all.
The song that i will always lose my mind to is lay low.
A song that im really feeling right now is sweetheart. I think its one of the best love songs ever written.
It's a tie between Steam Engine and The Way that He Sings
man, that is hard. the way that he sings or OBH is what hooked me. but where to begin, just because i do, easy morning rebel, come closer, just one thing, lay low, live hell, and im amazed are back ups. that is just too damn hard.
screw it- the only song i dont like/am not obsessed in the entire catalog is into the woods.
Wordless Chorus...think about it.

This song is so beautiful....I love the breakdown near the end (slow tapping of the hi hats) then "take your money and your druuuuugggssss"
WOW such a good song
Just depends on my mood. At the moment:
COBRA
As a sucker for love songs, I think Hopefully tops the charts for me.
It also was the song I heard that made me look into them on a deeper level.

TGMC421... I was just sitting at my computer, doing school work...listening to Acoustic Citsuoca...half way through Hopefully...I was just feeling how incridible this song is...holy shit....................... :P
LAY LOW
such a beautiful song but still a monster with that incredible guitar duel. 6 minutes of musical perfection.
it's been my favorite of MMJ since I heard it several months ago. my favorite song period at the moment.

I used to work there, but it was called The Meadows. I was a loader (unloaded & loaded the artist's gear), I also had full pass to the entire place. The shows I saw were very good, but my favorits were Neal Young and Steely Dan. I would most like loose it if MMJ was there during that time...but it was 7 years ago. :'(
Thanks all! I"m trying to round up the MMJ forum's completely unofficial first come first serve top 20. I need five more... I'll add one you all don't pick. Absoulutely incredible playlist so far thanks! [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

Ill get back to you after im done pulling my hair from listening to roughly 4 hours of MMJ tunes trying to decide...
hmm...about 4 hours until a great night of boxing fights. maybe i will just totally blow off studying for my final monday to try to find out my favorite 5 tunes, 1 is way too hard
The Way That He Sings
My first favourite was Lay Low, but when I bought the rest of the albums it became a toss up between The Way That He Sings and Xmas Curtain. But my mind is constantly changing. It's hard to pick just one or two.
Golden will forever be my favorite song of all time.
if Golden didnt exist (god forbid) then way that he sings would be my fav. jacket track
"i think i'm going to hell" ...it still makes my nips hard everytime. :D
I love Golden..........also like many Bermuda Highway be the stuff. Also unlike some on here I love Into the Woods. Great tune.
I'd would have to choose between 1 long type song, and one shorter one. I have developed a huge affinity for Shootin'. Steam Engine, though, is my mainstay.
Shorter songs? Dancefloors and....How Could I Know... Although, its an impossible task. There are dozens..... :o
