WOW! Never, ever, ever in the history of my music loving life has a band/song/artist made me drop my jaw (literally) with pure excitement joy and suprise!
This song sounds like a MUSICAL ORGY of Prince, Talking Heads and Depeche Mode!
Poo on you to any old fans that can't appreciate the balls, talent, creativity and strive that this great band delivers to YOU the fan.
I love it also. It's defniitely a surprising song and some of my friends are hating on it, but I likey! It's unapologetically goofy!
No one understands that its them having fun, its a great song, a little goofy (peanut butter pudding surprise!) but extremely enjoyable.
There is no reason a band that has been making music for a little over a decade can't have a little fun while making an album.
When I heard this song on the SXSW boot I got extremely excited to hear the new album, but even more excited to hear it live in person and be part of the insane crowd.
If you knew anything about what kind of people the band are, you'd have seen this coming. I can't wait to hear it at RCMH.
seriously!!!
PEANUT BUTTER PUDDING SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope in the spirit of CAMEO(Word Up), the boys do a couple of shows wearing high top fade hairdos.
"When you hear the call you got to get it underway."
this song live is so awesome. its just a ton of fun.
Listening to Evil Urges for the first time today I was waiting for my first full blown chill bump moment and it came 1:17 into Highly Suspicious, the build, the build, the build, and BLAM!
Hide the children and faint at heart when they play this live. Seriously, it will be full on
K R U N K N' G R I N D Y
I am sort of scared to see this song live. I mean, I'm married and I don't know what will happen (seriously) :-/
I laughed at this song the 1st few times I heard it but now it's not that funny anymore. It's prolly their worst song ever.
What an awesome fun song, it makes me want to bust a move. I can't wait to hear it live. GREAT ALBUM, I love the wait it flows.
Thanks MMJ for another awesome album. :)

Well get her involved then. She'll only be pissed if you leave her out. ;D
most certainly the worst song mmj has ever recorded.
i'm betting that the many fanboys that lack objectivity will dig it though.
No way it's their worst song ever! Any song with lyrics "Peanut Butter Pudding Surprise" Is ok in my book! It's just Jim's cheesy sense of humor! haha
i challenge you to name a MMJ song weaker than this one...
My favorite on the album! I don't understand why anyone could not like it. Listening to it with a nice subwoofer is a treat too.
I love the song. I don't see how anyone who is familiar with MMJ and Jim's uncanny virtue of not taking life too seriously is surprised at all with it.
How is this song weak?
Brad's iTunes playcount
Highly Suspicious: 130
That's how weak I think it is.

Brian- I think this is Brad's way of saying he would be down with the dry humping. :-*

yes, and Brad DOES get the HIGHLY COVETED "Reach Around"
Reach around? What's that mean?
*snicker*

I agree. Cool song. Glad they left it on the album. I never fail to crack up the first time the background vocals are sung.

Dude - thank you...I keep seeing review after review with the Prince comparisons and it annoys me because Evil Urges and Highly Suspicious SCREAM Talking Heads. Yeah, maybe the falsetto is Prince reminiscent, but as a whole I think these sound so much more like TH than Prince...they ROCK way too hard for Prince
That said, first listen I was totally WTF?!?!, but after realizing the comedy of the lyrics and how much it rocks, who gives a god damn!! cant wait for this live :D

The bass drums on the track are insane with a subwoofer. And I agree with Tracy - things* are going
down when this is played live.

Love the new album too!!! Can't wait for the concerts to begin!

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who hears the inherently dirty nature of this song! ;)

Thanks for posting Tracy. Btw, love the Grohl!
When a band stays stagnant and plays it "safe," it's like you always know what to expect - no excitement, just more of the same.
MMJ pushes the proverbial envelope at every turn. The guys aren't afraid to experiment. That's what it's all about. When it becomes boring, then it's done. Not so in this case. Gotta love a band who goes out and rocks it every night and never stays still. I have never seen the same MMJ show twice. As for Highly Suspicious, how completely different and exciting. You can see by the vid here how much fun the guys are having. Who would want it any other way! I want to be surprised and this album has surely done that!

Where did you get that picture of me!? :D
I LOVE this song....it's FUN!!!
did anyone read the interview where Jim mentions that the song is about being paranoid and thinking bobbies (british policemen) are going to get you. I thought that was neat.
The song is pretty badass...people are not liking it because its sounds nothing like mmj.

Back to the subject:
Highly Suspicious is thrust in your face rock and roll, and for those of you who don't like it please suck an egg. I said please.......

I normally don't like these but this is hilarious. ;D
I have been an MMJ fan from the beginning, but so far I just don't like most of this album. A couple of songs are ok... This song or joke song or watever it is intended to be, in my opinion, is not only the worst MMJ song ever recorded, but is a serious candidate for one of the worst 100 songs ever recorded by any well known band.
As far as going out on an edge for a known band, I give it an A+! But going trying something completely new would not be risky if it didn't hold the potential for disaster, and this song met that potential and then some.
Over all the entire album, imo, is dissapointing. Maybe it will grow on me?

I agree whole heartedly. I love MMJ, huge fan and on tuesdau morning when I put that in my cd player I was floored. Not only did they do something from a different realm all together but it is f'n amazing. I understand the shock value it may hold for some fans but come on. WOW what a song, hope to hear it in July at Pemberton festival.
Did all this song bashing come only after the album release or when it was first debuted live a while back? :-?
This song was designed for the Nitrous Balloon huffing crowd.
And I think it is there best song to date!
I'M HHHHHHIIIIIIIGGGGHHHHHHH!
I love this song.
It can hold its own against any other song on this album.
;D Hell YEA!!!!!! ;D

Z man! Good to hear from you. How is Adelle?
I slipped this song into an online Mariah forum of respectable fans and it's getting quite the positive attention [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]
Adelle is very good. Thanks for remembering and asking BH.
We love this band.
We have just become involved with so many things it is hard to keep up.
We were just talking about the new album.
We think it is a great test of our flexibility with imagination .
THe band always throughs out curveballs that are fun to swing at.
